    S2E5 | Vacation Mode-ish: Part 1

Vacation is supposed to be a break… but type 1 diabetes definitely doesn’t take PTO. In Part 1 of this two-part episode, we’re talking about what it actually looks like to travel with T1D in tow. From navigating theme park food and meals away from home to deciding what to pack, planning for the unexpected, and figuring out the logistics of road trips versus flying, we’re sharing the thought process behind how we approach vacations with our T1D kids. Because traveling with diabetes takes a little more planning, a lot more supplies, and sometimes just accepting that you can prepare for almost everything… and T1D will still find a way to keep things interesting. And we’re only getting started. Part 2 continues the conversation with vacation “what would you do?” scenarios, the caregiver side of traveling, and the pressure to give our kids the perfect vacation while managing diabetes through all of it. S2E4 | There’s a Hack for That

Managing type 1 diabetes comes with a whole lot of trial and error, and somewhere along the way, you pick up a few tricks that make life just a little bit easier. In this episode, we’re sharing the T1D hacks we actually use in real life, from food and blood sugar tricks to supplies, devices, school, travel, nighttime management, and all the random little things we’ve figured out along the way. We’re also sharing some of YOUR favorite hacks, because sometimes the best advice doesn’t come from a manual. It comes from another T1D family who has already been there and figured out a better way. Some are genius, some are ridiculously simple, and some might have you wondering why nobody told you about them sooner. This is a public episode. S2E3 | The Night Shift: T1D After Dark

There’s a whole side of parenting a child with type 1 diabetes that happens after the rest of the house goes quiet. In this episode, we’re talking about the T1D night shift: the alarms, the middle-of-the-night blood sugar checks, treating lows half asleep, correcting stubborn highs, site failures at the worst possible time, and those nights when you’re technically in bed… but you’re definitely not sleeping. We get into the mental load of being the person who is always listening for the next alarm, the decisions we make at 2 a.m. that somehow feel completely normal now, and the exhaustion that can follow you straight into the next day. Because diabetes doesn’t clock out when our kids go to sleep, and neither do we. This is a public episode. S2E2 | The "T1D Hot Seat"

This week on RT1, we’re putting ourselves in the “T1D Hot Seat” with a mix of What Would You Do scenarios, This or That questions, and some very specific T1D situations that made us realize just how quickly we think we know our answer… until we actually have to choose. We’re talking through the kinds of decisions that come up all the time when you’re raising a kid with type 1 diabetes, along with a few completely hypothetical situations that had us debating what we would actually do. Some answers were immediate, some we definitely didn’t agree on, and others sent us down a rabbit hole we weren’t expecting. There’s no right or wrong answer here, and that’s kind of the point. So much of life with T1D is figuring out what works for your kid, your family, and the situation you’re in at that exact moment. This episode is a little lighter, a lot of fun, and basically one big conversation about all the weird, frustrating, funny, and very real decisions diabetes throws our way. Listen along, play along, and see how your answers compare to ours! This is a public episode. S2E1 | Plot Twiist: Where We've Been

We’re back for Season 2, and apparently a lot can happen during a little podcast break… In our first episode of the season, “Plot Twiist: Where We’ve Been,” we’re catching you up on life lately and diving into one of the biggest changes in our diabetes management: our experiences with the twiist insulin pump so far. We’re talking about why we decided to give twiist a try, what the transition actually looked like, the learning curves we didn’t necessarily expect, and the features that have stood out to us along the way. We’re sharing what we’ve loved, what has frustrated us, the adjustments we’ve had to make, and how our experiences have compared to the systems and routines we were using before. Because, as always, diabetes technology can look incredible on paper, but living with it day after day is a completely different story. This isn’t a polished review or a “here’s the perfect pump” conversation. It’s two T1D moms sharing our real-life experiences managing our kids’ diabetes with a newer system, including the wins, the hiccups, the learning curves, and everything we’re still figuring out. So grab your coffee, settle back in with us, and let’s catch up. Season 2 starts now. This is a public episode. S1E18 | The Comparison Trap

Flat lines. Perfect graphs. “What works for us.” In the T1D community, it’s easier than ever to feel like you’re falling behind. In this episode of RT1, we’re diving into the comparison trap that so many diabetes parents quietly struggle with but rarely talk about openly. From social media highlight reels to judgment around different management styles, we unpack the pressure to chase perfection and the emotional toll that can come with it. We talk about the obsession with flat lines, comparing your child’s numbers to someone else’s, and the guilt and burnout that can happen when diabetes management starts to feel like a competition instead of survival. We also get into the reality that social media rarely shows the full picture. Behind every “perfect” graph are the lows, the rebounds, the mental exhaustion, the fear, and the moments that never make it online. This episode is honest, nuanced, and maybe a little controversial at times, but it’s a conversation that needs to happen. Because there is no one size fits all approach to T1D, and what works beautifully for one family may not work for another. At the end of the day, this isn’t about who has the best graph. It’s about raising healthy kids while trying to protect their childhoods and our own mental health along the way. This is a public episode. S1E17 | Sun, Spikes & Starting Over: Part 2

Sun, Spikes, and Starting Over: Part Two is all about what comes next as both boys get ready to transition to the Twiist insulin pump. Starting a new pump always brings a mix of hope, nerves, and a whole lot of questions. In this episode, we’re talking through the prep that happens before the switch, the expectations we’re trying to keep realistic, and what it feels like to once again hand over a little trust to new technology. From setting changes and learning curves to the emotional side of starting over, we’re sharing what this transition looks like in real time and why new diabetes tech can feel both exciting and exhausting all at once. Because with Type 1 Diabetes, every new device comes with the same goal: more freedom, better management, and hopefully one less thing to fight with every day. This is a public episode. S1E16 | Sun, Spikes & Starting Over: Part 1

Sun, Spikes, and Starting Over: Part 1 is all about that tricky shift into summer and how type 1 diabetes refuses to follow the same rules. Warmer days, more time outside, changes in activity, later nights… and suddenly the numbers that used to make sense just don’t anymore. We’re talking about the unexpected spikes, the patterns that disappear overnight, and the constant adjusting that comes with a whole new routine. This episode is about flexibility, frustration, and finding your footing when everything feels off. Because sometimes this season isn’t just about sunshine. It is about relearning what works and giving yourself the space to start fresh. This is a public episode. S1E15 | RT1: Unfiltered

In this episode of RT1: Unfiltered, we’re back with zero script and a lot to say. This one goes everywhere…in the best way. From the mental load that never really shuts off, to the “are we the only ones dealing with this?” moments, to the stuff that feels too raw or too messy for a structured episode… nothing’s off-limits here. It’s honest, a little chaotic, and exactly what this series is meant to be. Just two moms processing life with Type 1 Diabetes in real time; the wins, the spirals, the second-guessing, and the moments that somehow still make you laugh. This is a public episode. S1E14 | The Experiment

If there’s one thing parenting a child with Type 1 Diabetes will teach you, it’s this: nothing is guaranteed. In this episode, we’re talking about the constant trial and error that comes with T1D. The meals that work one day and completely fail the next. The routines you swear by until they suddenly stop working. The decisions you make on a gut feeling because sometimes, that’s all you have. Every bolus, every correction, every snack, every “should we try this?” moment… it’s all part of one ongoing experiment. We’re diving into the mental load of it, the second-guessing, the wins that feel like luck, and the reality that even when you do everything “right,” things can still go sideways. This isn’t about getting it perfect. It’s about learning, adjusting, and showing up again the next day with what you know now. Because in this life, we’re all just experimenting. S1E13 | The Unspoken Skills Of T1D Parenting: Part 2

Part two of ‘The Unspoken Skills of T1D Parenting’ dives into the side of this life that no one really prepares you for, but every parent of a child with type 1 diabetes has to learn. In this episode, we’re talking about advocacy in all its forms. From navigating 504 plans and working with schools, to educating caregivers, friends, and even strangers on how to keep your child safe. Because managing T1D isn’t just about blood sugars, it is about making sure your child is supported everywhere they go. This is a public episode. S1E12 | The Unspoken Skills of T1D Parenting: Part 1

There’s a moment in every Type 1 parent’s journey when you realize… this isn’t normal parent life anymore. In Part 1, we’re diving into the skills we never asked to learn but now rely on every single day. The constant math, the pattern recognition, the intuition you build just by living this life. The things that once felt impossible but slowly became automatic. If you’re in the thick of it or just starting out, this episode is a reminder that growth is happening, even when it feels overwhelming. This is a public episode. S1E11 | RT1: Unfiltered

This is our new series where we ditch the outline and just talk. In this first episode of 'RT1: Unfiltered', we’re getting real about the highs, the lows, and everything in between that doesn’t make it into the polished conversations. The thoughts you have at 3am, the frustrations you don’t always say out loud, and the unfiltered truth of raising kids with type 1 diabetes. This is a public episode. S1E10 | Digital Lifelines: Part 2

Part 2 of “Digital Lifelines” goes deeper into the tools that don’t just help us manage Type 1 Diabetes… they help us live with it. From real-time alerts to trend tracking, these devices become more than just technology. They become peace of mind. They help us catch the highs before they climb, the lows before they crash, and give us the confidence to let our kids be kids. But with that constant connection also comes a different kind of weight; the mental load of always watching, always responding, always being “on.” And then there’s alarm fatigue… when the constant beeps and alerts start to blur together, making it harder to tell what’s urgent and what can wait. It’s exhausting, and it’s real. In this episode, we’re talking about both sides of it. The life-saving benefits, the emotional toll, and how families navigate the overwhelm while still relying on these digital lifelines every single day. This is a public episode. S1E9 | Digital Lifelines: Part 1

For families living with Type 1 Diabetes, technology can feel like both a lifeline and a leap of faith. In Part 1 of this two-part episode, we talk about what it really means to trust devices that help keep our kids alive. From the moments when technology works exactly the way it’s supposed to, to the very real frustrations of imperfect systems, we explore the highs (no pun intended), the hiccups, and the promise behind today’s T1D tech. Because while no device is perfect, the impact they have on our lives is undeniable. This is a public episode. S1E8 | Too Little For This (with Special Guest, Marlee Brandon)

When Marlee’s son, Bain, turned one, she expected the usual milestones of toddlerhood. First steps. First words. First birthdays. What she didn’t expect was a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. In this episode, Marlee shares what it was like to have her baby diagnosed just after his first birthday, the fear and uncertainty that followed, and how their family began navigating life with a disease that suddenly became part of everything. It’s a conversation about shock, resilience, and what it means to care for someone so little with something so big. This is a public episode. S1E7 | Where Did You Go?

After your child is diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, everything changes and somewhere in the middle of carb counts, alarms, late nights, and constant vigilance, you can quietly disappear. In this episode, we talk about the identity shift no one prepares you for, how motherhood or parenthood can turn into full-time medical management, and how grief, guilt, and survival mode slowly replace the person you used to be; and the slow, intentional process of finding your way back. Not to who you were before, but to who you are becoming. This is a public episode. S1E6 | The Weight We Place On Small Shoulders

Raising a child with Type 1 Diabetes means constantly walking a line between teaching responsibility and protecting childhood. Our kids are asked to carry things far bigger than their years, from managing numbers and devices to navigating emotions most adults struggle with. In this episode, we talk about the quiet weight placed on small shoulders, how early responsibility can shape identity, and where we may need to step in so our kids can still just be kids. This is a conversation about balance, compassion, and learning how to hold the weight with them instead of handing it over too soon. This is a public episode. S1E5 | Micromanaging The Unmanageable

Type 1 Diabetes teaches you quickly that control is never guaranteed. In this episode, we talk about what it means to live in the space between effort and outcome. The constant adjustments, the pressure to “do it right,” and the reality that even perfect decisions do not always lead to predictable results. We explore how T1D reshapes your relationship with control, why surrender is not the same as giving up, and how learning to release what we cannot control can make room for more peace, resilience, and trust.
