Evan’s drinkin’ huckleberry soda. We talk about Plum, Guiding Light, Black Marble, Xanny Stars, Clean Slate, and Que Lindo. see/saw jukebox 13: Sweeping Promises

see/saw jukebox is a bonus podcast about perfect punk records from Punk This Week hosts Nina Corcoran and Evan Minsker. Each episode, we’re joined by special guests to curate perfect punk records for a mythical jukebox. This time around, we sit down with Sweeping Promises prior to the release of their new album You Say I Romanticize. Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug discuss their Boston years, the ups and downs of literally living in the studio, their ambitious plans to record Good Living Is Coming for You in its entirety at an Airbnb in Marfa, plus some of their favorite punk albums of all time. Also mentioned: scrobbling, harmonizing with the radio, basement shows, learning to slap bass, and a teaser about their next project. This episode of see/saw jukebox is free! An ad-free version and every other episode of this bonus podcast is available only to paid see/saw subscribers ($4/month or $40/year or barter + there’s a two-week free trial)! Thanks Yuasa-Exide for the use of our theme song “Spit” from the album Hyper at the Gates of Dawn. Thanks Tyler Nickell for the show artwork. To see what else is in the jukebox so far, check out previous episodes featuring Dan Ozzi, Optic Sink’s Natalie Hoffmann, Pigeon Pit, Citric Dummies, No Age’s Randy Randall, Ekko Astral, MSPAINT’s Deedee, the Marked Men, Eraser, Touché Amoré, King Tuff, DEVO’s Gerald V. Featuring Dog Date, Mesh, Vida Ruim, Cel Ray, Falcon Crust, and Cuticles. Bam! Bam! Bam! A discussion of multiple outings to shows, the big five U.S. orchestras, and Nina’s superhuman ability to never get sick (until this week). 93: Twisted Teens + The Carp

After a discussion about the lucha mask that lives on the back of a baseball hat (see below), sour candies, Krill, and the hostile puppet takeover of a sick Chicago ice cream spot, Evan and Nina cement their legacy as innovators with the invention of Drumba. They also discuss the new albums by Twisted Teens, the Carp, piso franco, NightFreak, La Increíble Patrulla X, and Vital Stress. Be sure to check out Matt Mitchell’s Twisted Teens feature for Paste Magazine, plus the “Florida Water Blues” music video and Caspian’s improvised song-turned-guinea pig sighting.
