Paitin Fields was 5 Years Old When Murdered. Did Uncle David Prevatte Do It? | Profiling Evil

Five-year-old #PaitinFields was carried into a North Carolina emergency room in November 2017 with injuries that doctors immediately recognized as suspicious. Medical examinations revealed evidence of sexual trauma and when the child died three days later, the medical examiner announced she was murdered by strangulation. Her uncle, #DavidWesleyPrevatte, #DavidPrevatte was inside the home that night and after 5 years of investigation, Prevatte was charged with her murder. He was actually a person of interest for four years before his arrest. Now, nearly nine years after Paitin’s death, Prevatte is finally on trial and the prosecution and defense just laid out two very different versions of what happened inside that home. Prosecutors point to Paitin’s injuries, a young eyewitness to the homicide, DNA testing and a pair of red earbuds. The defense says investigators focused on Prevatte early and through confirmation bias, botched this murder investigation.
