MAPPING EVIL Episode 4: When Predators Hunt Senior Citizens

Some predators don't hunt the strong. They hunt the vulnerable, and few victims are more vulnerable than elderly people living alone. In this episode of Mapping Evil, recorded in Australia with journalist Tori Shepherd, I walk through two chilling cases where serial killers made older women their preferred prey. We start in Salt Lake City with Daniel Ray Troyer, a killer some believe is responsible for as many as 13 murders. Troyer chose elderly women because they were easier to control and isolate, staging their bodies to look like natural deaths so no autopsies were performed. He hit them in blitz attacks from behind, bathed and posed them. He was caught only when a burglary detective confronted him and he confessed, believing they already had him. Then Sydney's North Shore, where John Wayne Glover, a pie salesman living in Mosman, hunted elderly women across wealthy suburbs. Glover bludgeoned victims like 82-year-old Gwendolyn Mitchell Hill with a hammer, his signature strangling them with their own pantyhose. Police caught him through a stakeout at the home of Joan Sinclair. These cases show how predators work a hunting ground the way an animal does, staying where they succeed.
