Stock Market Today: A little sketchy into the open on Monday, the AI hardware/semiconductor trade seemed to put in some not-bearish work Monday afternoon. NVIDIA (NVDA) and CoreWeave (CRWV) shares moved a couple percent higher; SanDisk (SNDK) and Micron (MU) traded up 6% and 3%, respectively; Oracle (ORCL) shares were up 2% and Nebius (NBIS) shares were up about 3%. But all the price action seems to have a filter pulled over it: the mid-term elections filter. Any macro headlines seen - especially items which lean toward the politics side of things - should be viewed with a grain of salt as a lot of the macro news over the next couple weeks will be intended to position ahead of the all-important mid-way elections. Stock Market Today: A "massacre" in the AI hardware trade overnight as details of Anthropic's Investor Day trickling out after hours caused a monster sell-the-news moment. "Market playing full-on defense again," Dennis said in the Stock Trader Network Think Tank Wednesday night. "AI stocks down 3-5% across the board [but] SPY barely down because stocks like Apple (AAPL)." Rotation, rotation, rotation ala Microsoft's (MSFT) Steve Ballmer in that one internet meme. What a Thursday backdrop to get yet another major economic data point: PPI at 8:30 a.m. EDT. OptionsAI's CC Lagator, during Wednesday's episode of "Options Unchained" on the PMP YouTube channel, noted the CPI and PPI always come in pairs and traders are often hesitant to call an "All clear!" until they get _both_ reports. That being said, CC described the PPI Thursday as a potential hurricane waiting offshore. If we get another hot inflation reading, the market could see quite a bit of volatility into Friday... Tesla (TSLA) investors, traders and fan boys and girls will also be eagerly awaiting the unveil event for the long-anticipated Roadster. We're expecting that event to start around 7:55 p.m. CDT - 19:55 in 24-hour/military time, potentially signifying the year Mr. Marty McFly time traveled to in "Back To The Future." Overnight news: - Reddit (RDDT) saw an after-hours iceberg seller at $155 and $156 but the guys couldn't find hard news on the company or stock. - Navitas Semi (NVTS) seemed to issue what Brent called "a fluffy" release highlighting another "collaboration" with NVIDIA (NVDA). - Bumble (BMBL) saw a mid-day rumor of go-private interest which got shares of Match (MTCH) and Grindr (GRND) moving. Shares of CEG were up 7% in pre-market action; Vistra Energy (VST) shares were up 4%. Marvell (MRVL) will host an Investor Day event at 9 a.m. EDT Tuesday, as will Zscaler (ZS) around 8:30 a.m. Costco (COST) will issue its monthly sales figures on Wednesday; Microsoft (MSFT) will host a Windows and Surface event Wednesday, they keynote around 1 p.m. Concern over a potential plague outbreak in Russia over the weekend had stocks in the vaccine and personal protective equipment space moving sharply higher yesterday. Novavax (NVAX) shares rallied 20% on Monday, Moderna (MRNA) shares were up 7% and Vaxcyte (PCVX) shares were up 30%. Stock Market Today: The market pulled back during trading on Wednesday ahead of the Trump-XI summit with formal meetings and a dinner scheduled to take place on Thursday. $SPY finished the day down 0.72%, the $QQQ was down 0.84%, the $DIA was trading 0.71% lower, and the $IWM was the biggest loser of the main indexes, trading lower by 1.84%. Losses in utilities (XLU), consumer discretionary (XLY), retail (XRT), and real estate (XLRE) stocks led the broader market’s fall, with the four sectors shedding more than 1% each. Valero Energy (VLO) saw a sharp spike lower during intraday trading as Politico reported that the White House is preparing a plan for 90-day diesel exports ban. This rumorwas later denied by the White House, calling it 'fake news'. In the evening Meta Platform (META) shares were volatile and trading lower as CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave his keynote presentation. He presented a range of new Meta Glasses that can integrate with Muse. He also showed off the new Meta VR Glasses. At the end of the presentation he unveiled a new AI keychain device powered by Muse called Meta Charm, with some people comparing it to a Tamagotchi.
