Episode 45 - A Gift Horse (ft. Nick Harrington of Hockeytown West)

On this episode, Nick Harrington of the Hockeytown West Podcast joins the program to discuss all things Grand Rapids Griffins. Nick and the team at Hockeytown West provide the most hands-on coverage of the minor league affiliates of the Detroit Red Wings out there, and our conversation ranges from past to present, from prospect to veteran, and many things in between. After that, we celebrate the signing of Alex DeBrincat to a long-term extension as a Detroit Red Wing, but does that come with an expectation of success? Finally, we broach the Simon Edvinsson topic once more given the news he is now stateside. Thanks for listening! Episode 44 - LinkedIn Deep

On this episode, we can finally talk some puck!! The 2026-27 Detroit Red Wings season has begun, and boy howdy does it feel strange. After the first Race to Three of the season, we discuss each game in brief detail and talk about a couple very early data points for this team through 3 games. Then, of course, we turn our focus back to the off-ice news - though still comically out-of-touch, not all of the news is bad this time!! Hallelujah. Episode 42 - Do We Have To Do This? (2026-27 Season Preview)

Host note - something went wrong with the first upload of this episode and the introduction got completely screwed up. This is a re-upload of the season preview for the record; you may disregard if you already suffered through the botched intro. Thanks for listening! On this episode, the ever-timely PFH Podcast (lol) engages in a full-on preview of the 2026-27 Detroit Red Wings season. We all know of the unfinished business that this franchise has yet to achieve - namely signing its #2 defenseman and trading its #1 center - but despite that, we're going to look forward by looking backward. Since there was not much turnover from year to year, a deep dive into the 2025-26 season is in order, because the best predictor of the future is the past (especially in Detroit these days). What reason can any Red Wings fan have for caring about this season amidst all this turmoil and mismanagement? Tune in to find out!! As always, thank you for listening! Episode 43 - Simon Says "Trade Me"

In this special "After Dark" edition of the PFH Podcast, Jack has a few choice words about the Simon Edvinsson situation devolving to a point where the player would "prefer to be traded," according to Elliotte Friedman. It's all just so tiresome. Nonetheless, thanks for listening! Episode 41 - Same as the Ol dBoss

On this episode, the silence has been broken! Chris Ilitch speaks on the management situation after taking the entire offseason to fire Steve Yzerman and hire ... an interim General Manager. Shawn Horcoff will assume GM responsibilities while the GM search stretches on into the regular season, and boy do we have opinions about that. BUT FIRST, Dylan Larkin has finally broken his silence to the Detroit beat writers! ... to say absolutely nothing of substance. But hey, at least Todd's back! This is going to be a painful episode, but a necessary one on the doorstep of the 2026-27 season. Thanks for listening! Episode 40 - Parting the C (ft. Matthew Meyer of Red Wings Diehards)

On this episode, Jack has a discussion with Matthew Meyer of the always-engaging Red Wings Diehards account on X about the press release from the team that reveals that Dylan Larkin is coming back to training camp but will not be wearing a C on his sweater. Is this the first step towards reconciliation between him and the team, or is this just a move that delays the decision-making until there is a GM in place to make it. Also in this episode is a brief recap of the prospect series games, and a few words about the passing of Barry Melrose. Thanks for listening! Episode 39 - The Divergent Yzerplan: Steve Yzerman's Tenure in Tampa Bay vs. Detroit

After many days away, the PFH Podcast returns in a big way! In this episode, Jack goes down the rabbit hole, wading through a pile of research into the differences between the Tampa Bay version of GM Steve Yzerman and the Detroit version of GM Steve Yzerman. We go over the situations inherited from the respective predecessors, and the key figures in supporting roles in the front offices. In each case, we examine the major moves that defined each administration through a lens of value creation, all in an attempt to answer one key question: why was the championship pedigree in Tampa Bay not replicated here in Detroit. Over the course of 100 minutes of podcasting, no stone is left unturned. Thanks for listening! PFH Episode 2 (re-release) - The Yzerman Era: A Plan in Review (2025)

Back-to-back re-releases! This is a second supplement to the upcoming Episode 39, which details the moves Yzerman made in Tampa Bay, but does not go into all moves made by Yzerman in Detroit. This was recorded in September of 2025, so no Red Wings moves beyond that point are included. Correction: at some point in this podcast, I misstate that Chris Yzerman was "in charge of" professional scouting. This is incorrect, as there has not been a titled Director of Pro Scouting in Detroit since Mark Howe left in 2022. Humble apologies. Again, this is posted just for reference, and was recorded on very basic audio equipment. Apologies if the quality is not up to the usual standard, but the real episode will be punished soon!

PFH Episode 1 (re-release) - The Late Ken Holland Years

Check check, is this thing on? In preparation for a larger episode exploring the differences between the Tampa Bay and Detroit tenures of Steve Yzerman, I'm releasing the very first episode of PFH ever recorded, detailing the situation that Ken Holland left behind from his management in the 2010s. This should serve as a supplement to Episode 39 and can be skipped if you don't want to relive the horror. This was recorded back in August 2025 with Derrick Weber and Adam Lanseur (with non-professional recording equipment), but we go in further detail to the Red Wings situation before Yzerman took over with more detail than Episode 39 would allow for.

    Episode 38 - Ultimate Accountability

On this emergency "After Dark" edition of the PFH Podcast, we reckon with the announcement that Steve Yzerman is no longer the man in charge of the Detroit Red Wings. After 7 seasons with the team, the Red Wings announced that a search for the next GM is underway, and that Yzerman is going to be moving into an advisor role to Chris Ilitch. We reflect on those 7 years, especially the events of the offseason leading up to this. We also remark upon the timing, and how we are left to speculate reasons for the decision and its timing. Finally, we cover some of the emotions and some of the worst takes seen on the internet in the immediate aftermath. 'Tis a monumental day in Hockeytown. Thanks for listening! We break down the incoming draft class, including a surprise 1st round pick and 4th round pick gained from trading away two Grand Rapids prospects. On this episode of the PFH Podcast, the Carolina Hurricanes have finally claimed the Stanley Cup! After years of knocking on the door, the Canes have defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in 6 games, winning their first Cup in the analytics era. We start the podcast talking about all angles of the Finals that were and the outlook for both teams in the near future. After that, we pivot into coverage of all of the updates around the Dylan Larkin trade request, adding more context and a bit more calmness to contrast the fiery reactions from Episode 34. Episode 35 - 2025-26 Red Wings Draft (ft. The Mexinadian and Diddums)

At long last, the much-anticipated (i.e. delayed) season-in-review episode has arrived! Not wanting to settle for boring player grades or tiermakers, the team at PFH Labs cooked up a new recipe: a Red Wings-only draft! Jambi, the Mexinadian, and Diddums each take turns drafting a one-line team composed entirely of players who finished their season with the 2025-26 Detroit Red Wings. We all went the distance on this one, so strap in and enjoy! Please note this was recorded before the Larkin news. Thanks for listening! Episode 34 - Larkin Pulls the Rug

Welcome to the first-ever emergency episode of the PFH Podcast. Sadly, it is for a worst-case scenario: Dylan Larkin, the Captain of the Detroit Red Wings, has requested a trade per reports. In this show, we talk about this news with the future of the team in mind, but also take some time to put ourselves in the shoes of Dylan Larkin and understand why he might have made this decision. We also spend some time at the end going over potential trade partners who have tempting assets if Larkin is, in fact, traded per that request. I hope this isn't as hard to listen to as it was to record. In any case, thank you for listening. PFH Podcast - Episode 33 - Cup Finals Eve (After Dark) On this edition of the PFH podcast, Jack riffs an "After Dark" episode while we eagerly await Game 1 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals. In light of the somber news of Claude Lemieux's passing, it starts with a memoriam of his life and his impact on the game, both as one of its greatest heels and greatest advocates. Then, some closing thoughts on the Griffins season and the performance of Michael Brandsegg-Nygard from the AHL playoffs to the IIHF World Championships, before finally turning our focus on the conference championship series that were and the Stanley Cup Finals series that shall be.
