What Tourists Are Missing At Gamescom in Cologne

There is so so soooo much more than the big gothic cathedral outside the train station! Hey Seekers! I've been at Gamescom this past week, hence the delayed release for this week's episode (but better late than never is what I always say). It actually kind of worked out because: My planned interview with Seamus Blackley has been pushed to later on in September It gave me the chance to do some deep diving into what creepy and weird sh*t is just underfoot that no one really knows about as they're walking around checking out the latest game demos. REMINDER: Despite this week's late release, we are still on time for the last episode to our 3-part series "The Psychic Cold War" going live this Tues for Patreon members and Wednesday for everyone, everywhere, else! Make sure and keep your eyes and ears attuned for it going live! Enjoy the show and thanks for getting weird with us! -Jess

The Psychic Cold War Pt. 02

Hello Seekers! Welcome back to part two of our three part series: The Psychic Cold War! What had started as a story about fake military telepathy claims has quickly turned into one of the weirdest intelligence experiments in modern history. Fast forward to 1972, the U.S. has arrived at the Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, California; a place known for advanced physics, defense contracts and Silicon Vallet level technical talent. It is the perfect setting for a truly bizarre intersection of science and the supernatural. In today's episode, we get into the who, what and why of it all over at Stanford and how the program kept surviving even when the government told the public it had all been useless. I hope you enjoy the show and as always.... Thanks for getting weird with me!

The Magician You Could Order by Mail

Hello Seekers! I have basically made this week's episode entierly with my phone, so apologies that the sound is a bit off this week but I didn't want to have to push the podcast again, so we are trying this technique out. While not ideal...it's not half bad! I hope you find this week's story of an obscure occult mail order musician/magician as intriguing as I did when I stumbled across his work. Who knows? Maybe he will become the next big occult talent to be "discovered" posthumously. After all, only a few folks really knew about Austin Osman Spare until Kenneth Anger came along & now he's finally been given the spotlight he deserves. As always, enjoy the show! Thanks for getting weird with me!

Inside Secret Archives: What Happened to Edison's Spirit Phone?

Hello Seekers! Welcome back to the 3rd installment of our ongoing Occult Objects: Where Are They Now? mini-series! When we talk about the history of the occult, we're almost always talking about the people: charismatic cult leaders, philosophers, and (of course) Aliester Crowley. But everyone eventually passes on and, when that happens, the real physical anchors left behind are the objects: personal paperwork, ritual altars and cherished trinkets. In today's episode, I am tracking the "paper trail" across the globe and asking one simple question: Where did it all go? Inside OSP: Where Are They Now - Ep. 3, I cover: The Babalon Papers: How Jack Parsons' explosove rocket science and ritual magic with L. Ron Hubbard ended up split between high-security Texas archives and locked O.T.O. vaults. The Relics of Anton LaVey's Black House: What happened to the taxidermied wolves, Baphomet sigils and altar pieces after the wrecking ball hit 6114 California Street? The 2,000 Spoon Cadillac: Uri Geller's wild metallic art car and where it sits parked today. Edison's Spirit Phone: The real life glass vacuum tubes and lab notebooks from America's greatest inventor sitting in federal archives and waiting for the right necromatic schematics to come along. As always, thank you all so much for getting weird with me today and enjoy the show!

The Dutch Roswell? NATO & The Soesterberg UFO Incident

Hello Seekers! Ooooooohhhhmmmaaaaannnn! Today's a good one! On multiple levels! Some of you know, some of you don't but I've been living in the Netherlands for the past four years. It's a beautiful country and I enjoy it very much however, one of the tougher adjustments that I've had to make is that I've had a tough time finding the more "mysterious and weird" aspect of the Netherlands. The occult angle here is always a pretty solid given, what with the Ritman library being here, a rich history of practicing alchemists and artists, as well as a castle supposedly inhabited by Faust. But it wasn't until my neighbor told mw about the UFO sighitngs over the area of Soesterberg that the doorway to "weird Netherlands" finally opened a crack! I can't wait to go on this adventure with you - both talking about this particular UFO sighting but also as we explore all the additional esoteric, paranormal and outright weird aspects of my new neighborhood. I feel like we have a brand new playground to run around in! As always, I hope you enjoy the episode and thanks for getting weird with us, -J

BSR/OSP Classic: (Rerun) The Mysterious Magician Of World War II - Jasper Maskelyne

Hello Seekers! We are in a MASSIVE heatwave out in Europe right now - so much so that everythig is closed due to the heat and my computer's fan sounds like a commercial airplane trying to take off. Everything is melting, so I thought a good way to keep up the pace is to debut our first ever OSP (technically, Bizarre States Ressurected) re-run! For those that haven't listened to my old Bizaare States Ressurected podcast - DON'T! They're terrible! However, I listened through it myself, cleaned up and edited my audio and found that the bones for a wonderfully weird history episode are there and worthy of a retread. With that, I hope you're cooling your legs in a pool and sipping on some sort of tropical beverage as we take a short weird history podcast break with The Mysterious Magician of World War II - Jasper Maskelyne. As always, thank you for getting weird with me (and stay cool)!

Virginia Woolf, Aleister Crowley & The Occult World of the Bloomsbury Group

Hello Seekers! First off, two things: 1.) I am so so sorry for the quality of my voice in this episode. I got hit with a MASSIVE cold that wiped me out for about two weeks (including during the entierty of my vacation), and I'm just not bubbling back up to the surface. My apologies that I sound all snotty and sniffly. 2.) What do Virginia Woolf, Aleister Crowley, W.B. Yeats, Peter Warlock, a mysterious death on a Cornish hillside and my vacation a few months back have in common? Way more than you'd think. This week on Occulture Shock, I explore the hidden connections between the Bloomsbury Group, the Mermaid of Zennor, my personal roadtrip out there and the occult's over-exposed bad boy, Aleister Crowley and his supposed connection to all of it. As always, I hope you enjoy and thanks for getting weird with us! Ps: Do you know we have a Patreon where you can get episodes early and ad-free? Interested? The Secret Occult Lives of Mondrian and the Beats

Hello Seekers! We've got a compilation podcast today which I think does a pretty decent job of covering some intriguing occult, esoteric and borderline paranormal topics, as well as, talking about some occultists/mystics and scientists that you may not have even known were occultists/ mystics and scientists. (sometimes you just have to go beyond the steretypical, and well-beaten path of the SEO and algorithim loving top of the pop version of occult "superstars" to keep it interesting - ya' know)? Also - did you know we have a Patreon? subscribers get early and ad-free access with tiered members getting extra goodies as they become available (such as our Spinnin' Spells live stream music hang-sesh). THE RENDLESHAM CODE: UFO Files, A Mythical Island And A Military Meltdown

Hello Seekers! Today's topic is in honor of the recent U.S. UFO document(s) release which, once again, says everything without saying ANYTHING. Considering it is one of the largest UFO/UAP cases in history - and involved the U.S. military personnel - why haven't all of these disclosed UFO docs never really seem to touch. this particular case? Also, nwhat else is going on in that section of England, eh? Why is it just so dang .....weird? Astaroth in the Magic Kingdom: The Real Witchcraft of Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Hello Seekers! Oh man, I'm pretty fired up about this one (mostly because I feel I actually was there for a little bit of these Gardnerian, mysterious England vibes while I was visiting the King Arthur hot spots throughout the english countryside. Don't worry 0 I ramble on about all of it in today's intro - which you are free to skip if you can't deal with my double dose of word salad this week). So, back to buisness, not only is Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks one of my favorite classic live-action Disney movies of all time but after a rewatch this past week, it got me thinking: Why did a 1971 Disney movie feature an incantation using the real, toxic pharmacology of Hellebore, Henbane and Aconite, and what does it all have to do with Algol, The Demon Star? In today's OSP episode, we explore the possible involvement of Walt Disney in Rosicrucianisim and how the "Dark Disney" era of the 70s and 80s smuggled genuine 17th century Goetic demonology into a family friendly matinee. As always, I hope you enjoy and thanks for getting weird with us!

The Paperback Occult Boom: How 1970s Occult Books Made Magic Mainstream

Hello Seekers! I have been inspired a lot lately by the 1960 & 70 occult paperback books that are finding their way into my collection. So I thought I would dedicate an episode to them :) Before WitchTok or Occult Tok or paranormal YoutTube, there was the "paperback occult boom." In the 60s & 70s cheap, mass- market books on witchcraft, Satanisim, psychic powers, UFOs, hautings and ceremoial magic flooded bus stations, drug stores and mall bookstores; turning ancient hidden knowledge into mainstream consumer culture almost overnight. In this episode of Occulture Shock, we break down how paperback publishing transformed the occult forever, sparked public fueds between famous witches and Satanists, helped create the modern :pop occultisim," and ultimatly laid part of the ground work for the Satanic Panic that followed in the 1980s. I hope you enjoy the episode and, as always, thanks for getting weird with us!

The Benben Stone: Ancient Egypt's Missing Meteorite, Pyramid Origins, and the Karnak Mystery

Hello Seekers! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break! So, I feel into a pretty deep archeological internet hole the other day around 2 am and this is what I came up with: Today's episode of Occulture Shock goes deep into one of the strangest gaps in ancient Egyptian history: the disappearance of the Benben stone. This artifact was once the most sacred physical object in ancient Egypt And then it vanishes. Just POOF! There one minute, gone the next. In this episode, we break down what the Benben likely was, how it Egyptian construction and design for thousands of years, and why its influence shows up everywhere in Egyptian architecture. Then we follow my weirdo 2 am theory as to where it is...because, why not? I hope you enjoy (it's an extra long one today) & as always, thanks for getting weird with us!
