A Newcastle, Ontario man has been fined $5,000 and handed a six-month hunting licence suspension after pleading guilty to illegally hunting coyotes at night near Pickering. According to Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources, a conservation officer investigating gunshots after legal hunting hours located Jason Bosse with a dead coyote and a high-powered rifle equipped with a thermal scope. Investigators later searched digital recordings stored on the scope and uncovered additional footage showing nighttime coyote hunting. The case raises questions about Ontario’s hunting regulations, the use of thermal technology and the consequences hunters can face for operating outside legal hunting hours.
