    Sunday 9th of October 1983, at around noon, roughly 75 yards north of the Coventry Canal, homeless man, George Cunningham was shuffling up the Old Leicester Road, when he discovered the body of 30-year-old wife and mother-of-three Lalitaben Ladva of Rugby. She had been strangled, beaten with a hammer, and her body dumped. It seemed like a motiveless crime, but a series of lies and deceptions by her killer would unearth the selfish reason for her murder.     #355 - The UK's Penultimate School Shooting (Higham Ferrers, Northants)

    On Wednesday 8th of January 1988, at 3:25pm, expelled pupil 16-year-old Darren Fowler entered the Ferrers School in the town of Higham Ferrers with two knives, 25 cartridges and a shotgun. He had written a suicide note, and planned to get revenge on those who had wronged him. By 3:37pm, it was over. But unlike the Dunblane massacre, it is largely forgotten, and why, like the Dormers Wells school shooting did it not lead for stricter gun control? This was the UK’s penultimate school shooting.     #354 - The Strangler's Excuse (Matthew Kavanagh & Isaiah Dixon, Rugby)

    Saturday the 12th of April 1958, two men – 60-year-old Isaiah Dixon and 32-year-old Matthew Kavanagh – returned to their boarding house at 11 Hillmorton Road in Rugby. Kavanagh strangled Dixon with his own tie, stole 34 10s from his pockets, went shopping, and confessed to his murder. But then in court, he denied murder, and used an alibi which had got many 1950s killers off a murder charge.     In the spring of 1942, a young French girl known only as ‘Veronique’ vanished from the streets of Soho. No-one knew her real name, where she came from, or how she had got there, but she had lived and worked as a prostitute for almost two years, and then having tried to escape, she vanished. Her disappearance is as much of a mystery as her life, or identity. Unlike others episodes of Murder Mile, this was compiled over a decade from the reminiscences of those who knew her or knew of her, therefore not everything should be taken as fact. Memories are subjective, and over time, the accuracy fades, and details are shifted, rearranged or adapted to suit a bias or perspective, so all that remains is a mystery.
