Hans Schmidt was many things, a Catholic priest, a mystic and scholar, a forger and counterfeiter, a necrophiliac and sexual deviant, a convicted murderer and suspected serial killer. He was also the only priest in history to be executed in the United States, having been electrocuted in Sing Sing prison on February 18, 1916. On Holy Saturday, April 5, 1980, Catholic nun Sister Margaret Ann Pahl was murdered in a chapel in Toledo, Ohio in a ritualistic manner many thought was a human sacrifice to the devil. While his parents’ corpses rotted in their locked bedroom, over a hundred teenagers showed up at his house, raging the night away, somehow oblivious to the blood splatter, bone fragments and brain matter on the walls, and the scent of death, as they played music on the family’s gore-drenched computer and beer pong with a blood-soaked ball. Episode 130: Fast Times at Upper Merion High, The Mainline Murders Part One
Long before high school English teacher Susan Reinert was found dead, naked and beaten in the hatchback of her Plymouth Horizon, it was obvious that the staff of Upper Merion High were out of control and engaged in debauchery of all sorts. The principal, Dr Jay C. Smith, whom staff and students alike referred to as the Prince of Darkness, had a penchant for bestiality, robbery and drug dealing. The chair of the English Department, Bill Bradfield, a self-professed poet obsessed with fascist writer Ezra Pound, was known to be carrying on wild affairs with students and staff alike. In the end five people would end up murdered or missing, including two children, in a bizarre case that’s come to be known as the Main Line Murders.
