Motherkind

Zoe Blaskey

Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now.

Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength.

Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

MOMENT | Solo parenting: Letting go of the picture you thought you’d have

What happens when life doesn’t go to plan? When the picture you imagined – the relationship, the family, the future – changes, and suddenly you’re doing it all on your own? This week’s Moment is with Rebecca Cox, co-author of How to Be a Happy Single Parent. It’s a beautifully honest conversation about single motherhood, money, and letting go of the life you thought you’d have. Rebecca shares the reality behind closed doors – the budgeting, the exhaustion, the pressure to hold everything together – and the quiet strength it takes to keep going. We also talk about shame and pride, and how asking for help can feel so hard, yet so freeing once you do. She reminds us that community can change everything. Finding others in the same season of life can bring connection, comfort, and even new versions of “family” that look different but feel deeply right. If your life looks different from what you imagined, this episode is a gentle reminder that it can still be full, beautiful and deeply meaningful – just in a new way. MOMENT | The neuroscience behind journaling with Dr Tara Swart

Motherkind Moment is your place for calm, connection, and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This week’s Moment: The neuroscience behind journaling with Dr Tara Swart This week’s Moment is with the wonderful Dr Tara Swart. Tara is a neuroscientist, psychiatrist, executive coach and the bestselling author of The Source. In this short but powerful clip, we dive into one of my all-time favourite tools for wellbeing – journaling. If you’ve been listening for a while, you’ll know how much I love journaling. It’s one of the simple, foundational practices that helps me stay balanced and connected every day. Tara explains the fascinating neuroscience behind why putting pen to paper is so effective. She shares how journaling helps to reduce cortisol (our main stress hormone), process emotions, and even support recovery from trauma. I found it so interesting when she described how writing – or even speaking – our thoughts out loud helps release them from our “brain-body system”, allowing us to feel calmer and clearer. We also talk about intuition, self-trust, and why we’ve become so conditioned to outsource our wisdom rather than tune in to our own inner knowing. As Tara says so beautifully, “We are all such powerful guides for ourselves – we just have to listen.” I hope this Moment inspires you to grab your pen, release those swirling thoughts onto the page, and reconnect with your intuition. Trust me, it makes a massive difference. To listen to the full episode with Dr Tara Swart, listen here. Frida Founder: “You Can’t DIY Yourself Through Motherhood”, with Chelsea Hirschhorn

Today, we have a bonus episode with the incredible Chelsea Hirschhorn, founder of Frida, the brand behind FridaBaby, FridaMum, and soon-to-launch FridaFertility in the UK. Chelsea is not only the driving force behind an innovative business, she’s also a fierce advocate for parents, especially mothers. Frida has broken barriers with campaigns that have made history. From airing the first-ever ad showing a lactating woman at the Golden Globes (after years of those stories being silenced), to the to the first Sports Illustrated feature, featuring a woman proudly showing her C-section scar – something never done in the magazine’s 58-year history. Chelsea shares the unbelievable behind-the-scenes of these groundbreaking moments in our conversation. She was also in London for the unveiling of the world’s first postpartum statue – created to shine a light on the reality of motherhood in a world where fewer than 4% of statues represent women, and almost none acknowledge mothers. If you’re in London (or visiting), I urge you to go and see it – it will give you all the feels. This episode will leave you feeling seen, inspired, and uplifted. Chelsea is refreshingly honest about the truths of building a brand while raising four children, and she shares so many powerful lessons and practical insights for parents navigating life and work. In a world where beauty is often curated, airbrushed, and sanitised, one universal truth remains hidden in plain sight: the raw, unvarnished experience of childbirth and motherhood. Frida, the brand that has rewritten the language of parenthood under the direction of founder and CEO Chelsea Hirschhorn, now unveils Mother Vérité — the first monument to raise mothers onto the pedestal they deserve. MOMENT | How to reduce the stress of mealtimes, with Rhiannon Lambert

Motherkind Moment is your place for calm, connection, and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This week’s Moment is with Rhiannon Lambert, one of the UK’s leading nutritionists and the bestselling author of The Science of Nutrition. Rhiannon shares such a refreshing message about food and children: we need to stop stressing. She explains how our little ones pick up on the pressure we put around food – and how that can actually push them further away from eating the things we want them to. Instead, Rhiannon shares practical, kind advice to help us take the pressure off and support a positive relationship with food. I loved Rhiannon’s honesty about her own experience – including the nights her little boy refuses dinner completely and the small, realistic swaps she makes to keep things simple. This is such a reassuring, non-judgemental conversation. A reminder that no child is a perfect eater, and that taking the stress out of mealtimes can transform not just what our children eat – but how we all feel around food. Motherkind Moment is your place for calm and connection and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This week’s Moment is with Julia Samuel. In this conversation, we discuss a subject that’s often difficult to talk about: what happens when our family is dysfunctional. We cover how to recognise if we’re operating in that environment. And how do we know when it’s time to set boundaries, or even take the painful step of cutting contact altogether? Julia shares her perspective on what truly defines a dysfunctional family, the emotional toll it can take, and the complexity of navigating those relationships. MOMENT | Choosing authenticity, even when it isn’t what others want to hear, with Candice Braithwaite

Motherkind Moment is your place for calm and connection and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. Today’s Moment is an emotional and deeply moving clip from my conversation with Candice Brathwaite. Candice shares the boundaries she’s had to set, the loneliness that can come with standing in her truth, and the heavy costs of being the “black sheep” in her family. With honesty and courage, she reflects on what it means to live authentically—even when it means breaking away from tradition, facing criticism, and sometimes feeling alone. Yet, as Candice shares so beautifully, she couldn’t imagine living any other way. Her story is a powerful reminder that living in alignment with your truth can feel isolating, but it can also create legacy, freedom, and deep impact for generations to come. MOMENT | THIS will help you when you feel like you are drowning in parenthood, with Jess Our Mama Village

Motherkind Moment is your place for calm, connection, and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This week’s Moment is with Jess Vanderwier, Registered Psychotherapist, Mum of two and founder of Our Mama Village. In this clip, we explore the importance of giving ourselves permission to slow down when it comes to healing and re-parenting work. So often, parents feel pressure to “do it all” at once, reflecting on childhood wounds, repairing with our kids, and practising self-regulation—while also juggling the daily demands of parenthood. Using the powerful metaphor of “life jacket approaches,” we talk about how, in seasons of survival (like the early days with little ones), sometimes what we really need is simply to stay afloat. Only once we’re floating, no longer consumed by the waves, do we have the capacity to dive deeper into the bigger healing and re-parenting work. This conversation is a gentle reminder: you don’t have to do everything at once. It’s okay to just keep yourself afloat until you’re ready for more. MOMENT | Why ignoring your anger doesn't work - and what does with Sarah Ockwell-Smith

Motherkind Moment is your place for calm and connection and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This week’s Moment is with Sarah Ockwell-Smith, mother of four and one of the UK’s most well-known parenting experts. In this clip, Sarah opens up about her powerful realisation that, for most of her life, she had been the “good girl”, pushing down her emotions and keeping busy doing what she thought she should do. I know so many of you will relate to that. She bravely shares how recognising this pattern and choosing to change it set her free to experience more joy, calm, presence, and a deeper connection with herself and those around her. To hear the full conversation with Sarah, listen here. I've spent 30,000 hours supporting women to feel healthier, and here’s one thing I wish every woman knew...

Welcome to Motherkind, we are proudly sponsored by Wild Nutrition Women’s supplements, I am your host Zoe Blaskey and this is the show that is going grab you by the hand and be your guide through the wild ride that is modern motherhood. Every week I bring you world leading experts and thinkers to give us new ideas, new tools, new support, new inspiration for our lives as mothers - we span everything from work to relationships to mental health and healing to parenting. And I am very happy you are here. Let’s talk about nutrition, but realistic nutrition, because let’s face it we need it to be quick + easy and make a massive difference. Today’s episode is how to make tiny shifts in the right direction with your nutrition that is going to help you feel more energy, less exhaustion, brain fog and stress. Yes, what you’re eating has a massive impact on how you’re able to handle stress. As you know I partner with Wild Nutrition a brand I absolutely love, so I asked the Head of Nutrition at Wild Nutrition to come on - Isabelle Nunn is a registered clinical nutritional therapist with a Masters in Pharmacy, she brings over 15 years of experience in nutrition and healthcare. She is also a Mother of 2 - age 7 and 4.5 - so she knows what she’s talking about personally and professionally. I am so excited for you to hear this episode - Isabelle reveals the simple swaps we can all make to reset our energy - especially focusing on breakfast + hydration - did you know even being 1% dehydrated can cause you cognitive issues (grabs glass of water immediately) We also talk about family dinners that pack in the nutrition - lots of inspiration there and why cutting back on sugar can have such a massive impact on your energy I think we all know what we “should” doing when it comes to nutrition but this episodes really helps to bridge the gap between knowledge and practicality - because the knowledge is useless unless we actually make some small changes. So here is it - hope you love it. MOMENT | This is how you know you're a cycle breaker with Shelley Robinson

Motherkind Moment is your place for calm and connection and a shift in perspective before the week ahead. If you’ve been following me, the podcast, or my work for a while, you’ll know I’m deeply passionate about cycle-breaking—taking a closer look at our own childhoods, the messages we received, and the beliefs we absorbed along the way. Then comes the powerful question: Do we want to carry these forward, or do we want to change them for our own families now that we’re parents? In this week’s Moment, there is a brilliant insight into: What it really means to be a cycle-breaker How to recognise if you are one How to identify which cycles you want to break How to navigate this journey when spending time with extended family I get asked these questions all the time, so I asked Shelley, and her answer is part of this episode. If you haven’t listened to the full episode, I highly recommend it. For more powerful insights from Shelly Robinson, listen to the full episode here.
