Sami L. | Midwife, PPROM, unmedicated delivery at 34 weeks, NICU, and PP hemorrhage at 6 weeks.

Sami from Saskatoon, SK is a naturopathic doctor and joins us on this episode of Moony Birth Stories. Sami was followed by the midwives throughout her pregnancy, but when her water broke at 34 weeks + 3 days she was transferred to the care of OB’s for delivery. Sami went on to have an unmedicated delivery that was augmented with pitocin. Her daughter spent 22 days in the NICU as well. Ali V. Part 2 | VBAC, midwifery care, hospital birth with epidural, NICU, HIE

In today’s episode of Moony Birth Stories, Ali is back for a solo episode to share her second pregnancy and birth story with her daughter, Charlotte. She shares about her pregnancy under midwifery care, her plan and preparation for a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), and her vaginal delivery with an epidural. During birth, her daughter experienced Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) which is a brain injury caused by reduced blood flow or oxygen to a baby’s brain. Charlotte spent 9 days in the NICU where she underwent cooling therapy to reduce further brain swelling. Carly G. | Home birth turned hospital birth, vaginal delivery with epidural, and midwifery care.

Carly from Saskatoon shares the story of her daughter, Nora. Carly took courses, planned for a home birth, and was excited for birth. At 40+3, labour began spontaneously and continued over the next few days. After a long labour and limited support, Carly and her husband agreed to go to the hospital to receive an epidural and begin pitocin. In labour, Carly developed an infection which she received antibiotics for and all was well. Her daughter was born vaginally and they experienced a few challenges immediately postpartum. Brittani D. | PPROM at 30 weeks, vaginal delivery with epidural, and a NICU stay.

Brittani was under the care of an OB in North Battleford, Sk as her original plan was to deliver there. She had a pretty uneventful pregnancy until 30 weeks when she experienced preterm prelabour rupture of membranes (PPROM). Brittani was transferred to JPCH in Saskatoon where she was admitted to await the arrival of her baby. Labour began spontaneously where she goes on to have a vaginal delivery with an epidural. As her son was premature, they spent 28 days in the NICU. Brittani was delighted when they brought their son home. Alyssa unfortunately had a negative experience with her first doula but thankfully had the support of her midwife and husband. Alyssa goes on to share her experience with oral ties. Alyssa’s plan for her second birth remained the same as with her first and this time they hired a doula that was more aligned with them. Liz- One Hospital Labour with Pitocin and Epidural; Emergency Cesarean Section

Liz, a doula and pharmacist from Saskatoon, SK joins me on this episode of Moony Birth Stories to share the pregnancy and birth story of her daughter Marjorie. Liz and her partner, Pete, were able to conceive with no complications after a few months of trying and while she'd hoped for a home birth, Liz explains the factors that ended up leading her in a different direction. She opens up about her struggles with a labour experience that felt out of her control and not supported by her medical team in the ways she should've been. She talks about her path to processing and healing after birth trauma as well as her struggles with postpartum anxiety. Support the show
