Every Dad Is A Murderer - Trap: Media Club Plus S02E13

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This episode we watched Trap, and next time we'll be back with a sequel to our season 1 screenshot stream for out next season: The Sopranos Three of the five people on this show were really suprised by what Trap ended up being, which is funny because one of those three had already seen it! Serial murderer Cooper Abbott aka The Butcher takes his young daughter to the event of a lifetime: perfect seats for pop phenom Lady Raven's stadium tour. Little does he know the concert has been turned intro a trap for him, set by the FBI. He uses his charm and some looney tunes logic to try to avoid being caught, while still trying to show his kid a good time. The Back of Rupert Grint's Head - Knock at the Cabin: Media Club Plus S02E12

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. We're almost finished with M Night Shyamalan! This episode we watched Knock at the Cabin, and next time we'll be back with the most recent M Night movie Trap We've got a pretty good one! M Night is able to take a short and fairly well edited script and some excellent performances and turn out a fun if thin and messy take on a home invasion thriller (slop lord continues his work?) Couple Eric and Andrew are vacationing in the Pennsylvanian woods with their adopted daughter Wen when four weapon-weilding strangers (lead by human giant/elementary school teacher Leonard) force their way into the cabin and tie everyone up. These four have been having apocalyptic visions, and their goal is to get one member of the young family to sacrifice themself, and be killed by the other two, to prevent the end of the world. One by one the intruders kill themselves to herald a new disaster while the couple while Andrew and Eric figure out if that sacrifice is possible or even desired. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), and Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com You can find the screenshot post here This episode was made with support from listeners like you! You'll Never Guess What This Beach Does - Old: Media Club Plus S02E11

ANNOUNCEMENT: On Sunday the 15th and Monday the 16th, Friends at the Table going to be hosting ICEBREAKER, a two day fundraising marathon on Twitch to raise money for the Women's Foundation of Minnesota's Immigrant Rapid Response Fund! Read more here! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Old, and next time we'll be back with our penultimate episode: Knock at the Cabin. You may have heard that Old is about the beach that makes you old. Well, it really is about that! You get to the beach, start getting old, and you don't stop until you die. Many people in live go through getting older, but few as fast as the folks they put on the beach, and all the normal stuff that happens when you get older happens there, and some abnormal stuff too. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) and Andrew Lee Swan (@Swandre3000) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com I sort of wish we talked more about the camera and composition in this movie because it was particularly strong! Feed Him to the Beast - Glass: Media Club Plus S02E10

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Glass, and next time we'll be back with Old. A fairly boring movie about nothing, M Night wastes what potential there is in his "super"powered characters by keeping them separate and alone for the whole movie, going to therapy instead of doing anything. And they don't even do a lot of therapy! Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), and Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! This episode we watched Split. THERE WILL BE NO NEW EPISODE on the 30th, we are taking an episode off for the holidays. Check back next year, on the 13th, to hear us talk about Glass. T-Diamond Stylus - The Visit: Media Club Plus S02E08

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched The Visit and next time we'll be back with Split. Also have you seen our most recent Patreon episode, the Last Airbender watchalong that Austin joined us for? It's good! We've got a new bonus in the can too, the Season 1 crew reassembled to record an episode on the non canon movie Phantom Rouge, so stay tuned for that! In this one, a pair of siblings try to avoid dealing with their feelings about their absent father by trying to fix their mom's feelings about her estranged parents. They do this by going to the middle of nowhere to meet them for the first time while making a documentary about it. Unfortunately, they're in a horror movie, so it goes way bad! Madam Narf vs The Rogue Scrunt - Lady in the Water: Media Club Plus S02E05

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Lady in the Water and next time we'll be back with The Happening. Also Check out Patreon next week for a watchalong of The Last Airbender with special guest Austin Walker. Lady in the Water, more like Lady OUT OF the Water! Bryce Dallas Howard is back and she's hanging out with Paul Giamatti who, as Cleaveland Heep, is a former doctor who retreats into superintedency after suffering a deep personal loss. Bryce Dallas Howard, Story, is a Narf: a kind of mystical water-dweller whose ancient pact with humanity was broken by our violence and greed. But the Narfs are returning to try to bring enlightenment to humanity. None of that really is in the movie, which mostly features running around an apartment building trying to figure out how to get the Narf home via eagle. It's a weird one! Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) and Janine Hawkins in her Media Club Plus debut. Crime Is Still Happening - The Village: Media Club Plus S02E04

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched The Village and next time we'll be back with Lady in the Water. The Village is an isolated, idyllic(?) settlement deep in the forest, surrounded by dangerous, territorial, but ultimately peaceable creatures called, by the Villagers, The Ones We Don't Speak Of. In this movie a generation of elders use fear and love to control a new generation of children, but the promises of the outside world (and the increasing danger and dissatisfaction inside the village itself) is too strong a call. The Village is a movie about where Peace and Innocence come from, how evils are movtivated by love and fear, but without a solid grasp on the answers to those questions. Sometimes boring and slow, sometimes exciting and beaituful, and often shallow and patronizing. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel), ans Jack De Quidt (@notquitereal) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! TV Is The Fifth Character - Signs: Media Club Plus S02E03

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Signs and next time we'll be back with The Village. Signs is a movie about ex-preacher Graham Hess and his faith in god, which is put to the test when his wife is killed as a pedestrian in a car accident. He loses his faith, leaves the Church, and retreats emotionally inside the self-soothing comfort of atheism, or perhaps fledgling nihilism. Unfortunately for him, in M Night's world, God is real, losing faith is wrong, and raising your kid while atheist is toxic. When the earth is suddenly subject to a widespread alien invasion threat, Graham's lack of faith is shattered by God's Grace, and the true extent of His meticulously planned fate is undeniable. In this movie written in 2000-2001, starting production in September 2001, and released in summer of 2002, we find an almost supernaturally early example of the post 9/11 movie. A movie about media, a Christian God, securing borders against foreign threats, pulled from the percolating subconscious of America. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online) and Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you!
