    Should paternity leave be extended?

    A petition calling for Ireland’s paid paternity leave to go from 2 weeks to 8 weeks has passed 10,000 signatures, with people signing in all 26 counties. Fathers in Ireland get 2 weeks of paternity leave, with Paternity Benefit of €299 a week. The campaign says that isn’t long enough to support a partner’s recovery after birth or bond with a new baby, and that many fathers can’t afford to take even two weeks… So, should paternity leave be extended?     Do we still have issues with attitudes in sport?

    England abandoned their Under-15 World Cup match against the Republic of Ireland yesterday evening after a player on the English team reported being subjected to a racist slur. The official reports are being gathered, and the matter will be referred to the independent disciplinary committee who will decide in due course. But beyond whatever happened last night: is discriminatory language still a problem more widely in sport?
