Second-chance career fair held in Ogden for people with criminal backgrounds
Today, the Department of Corrections held a career fair for people who are seeking a second chance. Organizers say they're bringing together motivated job seekers who are leaving the justice system with employers who are seeking reliable workers. With thousands of people under UDC supervision right now, there's a major need for jobs. But the process of getting those jobs isn't easy. For more on the program and why employers are reaching out to people with criminal backgrounds, Greg and Holly speak with Armanda Mercado, Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Utah Department of Corrections and Angela Johnson of Interstate Roofing; her business was one of the employers who attended the fair.

How loud is too loud? Complaints pour in over loud music festival in Sandy
How loud is too loud? There were a lot of angry people in Sandy over the weekend — complaining about noise from a music festival held at America First Field. Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski says festival organizers had things a little too loud on Friday night and that they brought the levels down for Saturday night. Greg and Holly share their own thoughts on sound limits from big festivals like that, especially when the venue is so close to homes.

It was quite the weekend for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who tuned in or came to downtown Salt Lake City for the church's semiannual General Conference. Leaders spoke of faith and hope but also got pretty direct with what they consider to be moral issues. In particular, President D. Todd Christofferson of the First Presidency of the church targeted gambling and prediction markets. Greg and Holly share their thoughts on the messages and are joined in the discussion by Church News reporter Aimee Cobabe.

U.S. Supreme Court begins new term; decisions expected on immigration, climate change, and the 2nd Amendment
Court is in session! The U.S. Supreme Court, that is. Some of the cases the court will review over the next several months could have some major impacts on things like immigration and both the First and the Second Amendment. The court is also expected to take up issues dealing with presidential power and climate change. Today, they began the session by hearing arguments on who can sue energy companies when it comes to climate change. KSL Legal Analyst Greg Skordas breaks down the trends coming this term with co-host Holly Richardson.

Trump administration looking into DOJ investigation of Watergate, former President Richard Nixon
Well… this wasn't on our 2026 bingo cards! The Trump Administration is now looking into the Watergate scandal from the early 1970s to see if the Department of Justice was unfair to then-President Richard Nixon. Remember, the whole scandal led to impeachment proceedings for Nixon and his eventual resignation. Now, we're learning that one of the big pushers of this renewed investigation is a former Nixon aide who's known as a "revisionist historian."

Riverdale community comes together to support family affected by house fire
The Riverdale community is coming together to support a local family that's dealing with the aftermath of a deadly house fire. A father and three children were killed in the fire, which began early Thursday morning. A mother and two of the kids have been released; another child remains in critical condition. Now, the community is coming together to try and support the family as they move through what's probably the hardest time in their lives.

Now there's nothing inherently wrong with traditional higher education, but it's exciting to see additional opportunities for people to learn and contribute to our workforce. Poor jobs numbers, higher mortgage rates lead to economic concerns ahead of the midterms
As we head into the midterms, the economy is top-of-mind for many voters. So, this morning's poor jobs report isn't exactly welcome news. The unemployment rate still remains near historic lows, so that's good. But it's on the rise -- that's not so good. Jobs in September increased nationwide by only 29,000 and the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%. All of this is happening at the same time that mortgage rates keep ticking up and more Americans are turning to "buy now, pay later" services.
