    SALON: A Franciscan friar sharpens his quill

    The USA is parading its incontinence, pissing everywhere. In the rest of the world, outsiders study the puddles and taste the piss. An example is Iran. We will start this talk with a short segment on Iranian propaganda, but we will talk mainly about something coming from the Vatican. Franciscan friar Paolo Benanti, a Vatican advisor on AI, has written an article fantasising about burning Peter Thiel alive to protect democracy. You see, he is happy. Finally he feels his theology is useful.     Holy Lies and the Normal Elite: Tom Holland, Bari Weiss & UATX

    Kate and Stefan ask themselves what their radical ideas for the future of high culture and art (read about it here, or watch all the films) would mean for other people who are currently competing to replace the crumbling liberal elite, not just in strictly fine art and film domains but also in the domains of journalism, history, academia. People with aspirations to replace the New York Times (Bari Weiss and her Free Press), or to find new, fresh ways of looking at our Judeo Christian culture (historian Tom Holland), or with aspirations to start a new university without the decadence that current elite universities are suffering from (the University of Austin, entrepreneur Joe Lonsdale). A lot of people are competing to fill the vacuum in a meaningful way, we identify a core problem with our contenders: their fundamental approach is still rooted in twentieth century thinking (which is in itself logical) but they are not rigorous in their thinking about that, they are still in love with the twentieth century, and don’t want to let go of its holy lies. In a way we say they are not deep and radical enough. But we don’t propose some idiotic amputational solution, ennobling portraiture (read about it here) is a way to reflect on your holy lies without having to diametrically oppose them.
