Social Media Is Dead. 💀We’re Now in the Age of Interest Media.

Social Media Is Dead. 💀We’re Now in the Age of Interest Media. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and X may still be called “social media”, but the way people use these platforms has fundamentally changed. They are increasingly becoming content and interest platforms. A 2026 Statista Consumer Insights in the USA found that 48% said entertainment was an important reason for using social media. Passing time came in at 41%, communicating with friends and family at 40%, following interests and hobbies at 34%, and finding new content at 32%. Only 31% cited social interactions, while just 25% said meeting new people. It’s even more interesting among 18–29 year olds. Only 32% said communicating with friends and family was important, while 36% were there to find new content and 37% to pass the time. That changes everything for businesses and content creators. Your content isn’t only competing with accounts somebody follows anymore. It is competing with everything the algorithm believes that person will find interesting. That’s why the opportunity on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and X is so big. You don’t necessarily need someone to already know you or follow you. Great content can be distributed to people based on their interests. Start thinking about attention, interests and content people actually want to consume. Social media isn’t really social media anymore. It’s interest media. #SocialMedia #socials #statista #SocialMediaMarketing

Google PMax Campaigns are Not for 99% of Service-Based Companies

Google PMax Campaigns Is Not for 99% of Service-Based Companies Performance Max is one of Google’s most heavily promoted campaign types, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for every business. For most service-based companies, I would much rather start with tightly controlled Google Search campaigns. Why? If you’re a plumber, lawyer, dentist, accountant, digital agency or another service business, you generally want to reach people who are actively searching for the specific service you provide. With Search campaigns, you have far greater control over keywords, search terms, negative keywords, ads, landing pages and where your budget is being spent. Performance Max works across Google’s inventory, including Search, YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail and Maps. That reach can be powerful, but more reach does not automatically mean better leads. For service businesses, lead quality matters far more than lead volume. Ten genuine enquiries from people actively looking for your service can be worth considerably more than 100 low-quality leads generated cheaply across multiple channels. PMax absolutely has its place, but don’t use it simply because Google recommends it. Choose your campaign type based on your business, your customers and the quality of leads you actually need. #GoogleAds #PerformanceMax #PMax #LeadGeneration #DigitalMarketing

Google’s New /goto URL Redirect Is Big News for SEO

Google’s New /goto URL Redirect Is Big News for SEO Google has made a significant technical change to the way links work in its search results. Instead of Google Search always exposing and linking directly to the destination URL, Google is increasingly routing results through a google.com/goto redirect before sending the user to the website. Why does this matter for SEO? A huge part of the SEO industry relies on collecting Google search results at scale. Rank trackers, SERP APIs, SEO platforms and other tools need to identify the actual URLs ranking for millions of searches. Google’s new /goto system can hide the destination URL behind an encoded redirect, making that information considerably harder and potentially more expensive for third-party tools to collect. This does not mean your website suddenly ranks differently because of /goto. The bigger issue is SEO data. Rank tracking, competitor research, SERP analysis and the tools we rely on to understand Google results may have to change the way they collect their information. For anyone involved in SEO, this is a Google change worth understanding because it could have a major impact on the SEO tools and data we use every day. Do You Still Need a Website in the Age of Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and LLMs?

Do You Still Need a Website in the Age of Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and LLMs? Absolutely. Search is changing rapidly. People are using Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and other LLMs to find businesses, products and services. But your website is still at the centre of your digital presence. It remains one of the main sources search engines and AI platforms use to understand who you are, what you offer and why they should recommend your business. And getting found is only half the job. Your website also has to build credibility, explain your offering properly, differentiate you from competitors and help close the deal. I’m putting my money where my mouth is. We’ve completely redone the Top Click website, introduced a new logo, invested in a new design and brought in an expert copywriter to rewrite the website copy properly. If I didn’t believe websites still mattered, I wouldn’t be spending serious money on mine. www.topclick.co.za #WebDesign #SEO #AnswerEngineOptimisation #GoogleAI #DigitalMarketing

Connect DataForSEO to ChatGPT, Claude or another compatible AI platform and you can work with real search data using natural language. This opens up enormous possibilities for SEO and Answer Engine Optimisation. You can research keywords, analyse competitors and SERPs, investigate search visibility and turn large amounts of data into customised reports and actionable insights. The Search Terms Report Is One of the Most Important Tools in Google Ads

If you’re running Google Ads, the Search Terms Report should be one of the first places you look when analysing performance. It shows you the actual searches people typed into Google before clicking your ads. This is where you can find irrelevant searches wasting budget, identify new negative keywords, discover valuable new keyword opportunities and understand whether Google is matching your ads to the right intent. This becomes even more important when using broad match, automated bidding and Performance Max, where Google has more control over when and where your ads appear. A campaign can look good at surface level while still wasting money on poor-quality search terms. If you’re not regularly checking your Search Terms Report, you’re not properly managing your Google Ads account. #GoogleAds #SearchTerms #searchtermsreport #GoogleAdvertising #DigitalMarketing

Your Website May Be Blocking Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. Important!

Google has introduced a Search generative AI control inside Google Search Console that allows website owners to exclude their content from appearing in Google’s generative AI features. This includes: • Google AI Overviews • Google AI Mode • Generative AI features in Google Discover If your website is set to Exclude, your content won’t be shown or linked within these generative AI experiences and won’t be used to help ground Google’s AI-generated responses. Importantly, Google says this does not affect your traditional organic rankings or inclusion in normal Google Search. So your website could still rank well organically while missing out on visibility and potential traffic from Google’s AI search features. In this video, I show you exactly how to check this setting in Google Search Console and make sure your website isn’t being excluded from Google’s generative AI features. If SEO and Answer Engine Optimisation are important to your business, this is a setting you need to check NOW! #GoogleAIOverviews #GoogleAIMode #GoogleSearchConsole #SEO #AnswerEngineOptimisation

Who Is Running Your Google Ads? An Amateur or a Professional?Google Ads can be one of the most

Who Is Running Your Google Ads? An Amateur or a Professional? Google Ads can be one of the most important sources of leads and sales for a business, yet many companies still leave their accounts in the hands of someone with very little experience. It could be a junior employee, a general marketer who “also does Google Ads”, or someone who has completed a few courses but has never managed serious advertising budgets. Google Ads is not something you want people learning through trial and error with your money. Campaign structure, keywords, bidding, conversion tracking, negative keywords, budgets, landing pages and ongoing optimisation all have a direct impact on how efficiently your advertising budget is spent. If Google Ads is important to your business, make sure the person or agency managing it has genuine experience and a proven track record. Better yet, look for a Google Premier Partner. Premier Partner status is reserved for the top-performing Google Partners in each country and demonstrates that the agency has met Google’s requirements around performance, spend and certifications. Your Google Ads budget is an investment. Make sure a professional is managing it. South Africa’s Unemployment Rate Just Hit 33.6%

South Africa’s Unemployment Rate Just Hit 33.6%. What Does This Mean for Online Advertising? South Africa’s unemployment rate has reached 33.6%, and this has a major impact on how businesses should approach Google Ads, Meta and TikTok advertising. In a market where such a large percentage of the population is unemployed, you cannot afford to target everyone and assume the algorithms will always find the right customers. You need to be specific. That means being careful with broad match on Google Ads, Performance Max campaigns and Meta’s Advantage+ targeting. Going broader can give these platforms more freedom, but in South Africa that freedom can also mean spending money reaching people who simply cannot afford your product or service. Many of the “best practices” promoted by these global advertising platforms are designed with larger, wealthier economies in mind. What works in the US or UK cannot automatically be applied to South Africa. Understand the economy. Understand your audience. And build your advertising strategy around the market you are actually targeting. #GoogleAds #MetaAds #TikTokAds #DigitalMarketing #SouthAfrica Learn more https://topclick.co.za/

Claude is adding invisible watermarks into AI content it’s creating for you

Claude is adding invisible watermarks into AI content it’s creating for you. Will it affect SEO? Anthropic is introducing invisible, machine-readable watermarking into content generated by newer Claude models. So the obvious question is: if you use Claude to help create website content, could Google detect the watermark and hurt your rankings? At the moment, there is no evidence that these watermarks will negatively affect SEO. Google has consistently focused on the quality of content rather than whether AI was used to produce it. If your content is useful, original, accurate and genuinely answers what people are searching for, using AI isn’t automatically a problem. The bigger SEO risk is not the watermark. It’s publishing hundreds of pages of generic AI-generated content without adding expertise, experience, research or anything genuinely useful. AI should help you create better content, not replace the thinking behind it. #Claude #SEO #AIContent #searchengineoptimization #anthropic Learn more https://topclick.co.za/

The Digital Marketing Tools and Software I Use Every Single DayRunning a digital marketing agency

The Digital Marketing Tools and Software I Use Every Single Day Running a digital marketing agency means using the right tools to get the best possible results for clients. Google Keyword Planner is still one of my most-used tools. It’s free, accurate and extremely useful for keyword research, although it does have its limitations. For analytics and SEO performance, Google Analytics and Google Search Console are essential. Then there are the paid tools. Ahrefs, Semrush and DataForSEO are tools we use continuously for SEO, competitor research, keyword data and deeper analysis. For technical SEO, Screaming Frog remains an important part of our toolkit. AI tools have also become essential. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity are now part of our everyday workflow, particularly as Answer Engine Optimisation continues to grow. There isn’t one tool that does everything. If you’re providing SEO, Google Ads and Answer Engine Optimisation, you need access to multiple platforms and know when and how to use each one. The tools don’t replace expertise. They help you do better work and deliver better results for clients. #DigitalMarketing #SEO #GoogleAds #AnswerEngineOptimisation #AEO Learn more https://topclick.co.za/

Be Careful of Google Ads Reps and the Advice They Give YouNot all advice is good advice

Be Careful of Google Ads Reps and the Advice They Give You Not all advice is good advice. Many Google Ads reps are measured on product adoption, not necessarily on the performance of your campaigns. That doesn’t mean you should ignore everything they say. Some recommendations can be genuinely helpful. But before making changes to your account, always ask yourself whether the recommendation aligns with your business goals, budget and strategy. Blindly applying every suggestion can sometimes increase your spend without improving your results. The best approach is to evaluate every recommendation on its own merits, test where appropriate, and rely on data rather than sales pitches. Watch the full video to learn which recommendations are worth considering, and which ones you should think twice about. #GoogleAds #PPC #DigitalMarketing #GoogleAdsTips #MarketingStrategy Learn more https://topclick.co.za/
