Both are used when someone does something for you, but the focus is different. ✨ ～てもらいます私（わたし）は友達（ともだち）に引（ひ）っ越（こ）しを手伝（てつだ）ってもらいました。 ➡️ I received my friend’s help with moving. 👉 私（わたし）は Aさんに～てもらいます The focus is on me receiving someone’s action. ✨ ～てくれます友達（ともだち）が私（わたし）の引（ひ）っ越（こ）しを手伝（てつだ）ってくれました。 ➡️ My friend helped me with moving. 👉 Aさんが（私に）～てくれます The focus is on someone giving an action to me. 💡 These two sentences can describe the same event, but from a different point of view! In this lesson, you'll learn two useful patterns: ✨ Vて-form + あげます Use 「～てあげます」 when you do something for someone. 📦 友達（ともだち）の荷物（にもつ）を運（はこ）んであげました。 ➡️ I carried my friend’s things for them. 📚 弟（おとうと）の宿題（しゅくだい）を手伝（てつだ）ってあげました。 ➡️ I helped my younger brother with his homework. 🚉 友達（ともだち）を駅（えき）まで連（つ）れて行（い）ってあげました。 ➡️ I took my friend to the station. 💡 「～てあげます」 is usually used for friends, family, and people close to you. We generally avoid using it for teachers, bosses, or other people of higher status.
