Super Troopers 3 – High on Canadian Crystal

Super Troopers 3 reassembles the Broken Lizard gang's most enduring characters for one last (mustache) ride. Yes, they're still juvenile. Age has not matured them. And we're glad it didn't. Super Troopers 3, like its predecessors, is gleefully sophomoric, infinitely quotable, and appropriately idiotic in all the best ways. Sadly—despite defying the odds against a long-gestating threequel recapturing the magic—it boasts the worst box office of the franchise. If this is indeed the end, and it most certainly feels that way, we salute you for your service. Go enjoy a well-earned liter of cola and Dimpus burger. Now, sit back, get wide-eyed with a Coffee Porter from Smog City, and prep those EpiPens! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are going to jump Duckneck Creek! Safety be damned! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – The greatest trilogy of all time is about to climax! Lingering Questions – Who's our favorite (super) trooper? (24:15) The "Power of Meow" Trivia Challenge – The Thunderous Wizard challenges the field to trivia about the movie. (35:54) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week and next up: We kickoff a spooky series that's yet to be determined! Quasi – A Fatty Deposit of a Movie

A Hulu original, Quasi is the Broken Lizard gang's attempt to tackle historical fiction. They do so to decidedly mixed results. Loosely based on Victor Hugo's 1831 novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Quasi's satirical take on 19th Century France lacks the punch of the troupe's other films. It's not devoid of laughs, by any means, but its not overflowing with them either. Now, sit back, toast to the coronation with a Framboise from Lindemans, and crank that rack! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are getting more and more orthopedically challenged by the day! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Every day is hump day! Lingering Questions – Who pulls of the dual roles the best? (31:58) The "Ding Dong" Trivia Challenge – Bling Blake challenges the field to trivia about the movie. (51:14) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week and next up: We conclude our Broken Lizard Flops series with the mustaches' final ride, Super Troopers 3! Beerfest – Prost

Beerfest is magical! We wish it were winter, so we could freeze it into ice blocks and skate on it! Then we could melt it in the spring time and watch it again! Now, sit back, test your monkey chug with an Oktoberfest from BrewDog, and finish your beer asshole! The Thunderous Wizard and Bling Blake are about to play some high-stakes ping-pong in Ding Dang! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Bring on the beer! They've got the nuts! Lingering Questions – Which country would be the odds-on favorite to win this competition? (34:25) The "Thieving Stableboy" Trivia Challenge – Bling Blake challenges the field to trivia about the movie. The Slammin' Salmon – Check Please

Perhaps the least well known of Broken Lizard's films, The Slammin' Salmon was a bad cut of fish for critics and the box office. Focusing on a ragtag waitstaff, their hopeless manager, and insane restaurant owner, the film mirrors many of the workplace comedies of the era. It's not really breaking any new ground. Despite that, it does have some solid laughs, and the troupe remains a good hang. Couple that with an outstanding supporting performance from Michael Clarke Duncan, as the man whose name is on the restaurant, and you get a halfway decent meal of a movie. Now, sit back, pair the sword fish with a Voodoo Ranger Citrus Slayer IPA, and wash it down with some Blue Curacao! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are training for the Dispute in Beirut with baby camels strapped to our backs! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Bring a bib ... It's going to get messy! Lingering Questions – Funniest character in the movie? (26:33) The "Meat Drapes" Trivia Challenge – Chumpzilla challenges the field to trivia about the movie. Mortal Kombat II – Finish Him

Mortal Kombat II ups the ante in every conceivable way over its 2021 predecessor (covered on this pod). It's bigger, bloodier, far more ambitious, and—this really seals the deal—it actually features the titular tournament. Released at the tail-end of Covid, Mortal Kombat dropped both in theaters and HBO Max on the same day. Earning a strong $84.4 million and konquering the streaming charts made this sequel a no-brainer. Sadly, despite WB's optimism and better reviews, Mortal Kombat II could only muster $129.5 million. Thus, a third film is stuck somewhere in the Netherrealm of development hell. Listen, WB, as the game strongly suggests to the winning player, "Finish" it. Now, sit back, soothe that Deadpool burn with a Juice Monster from Abomination Brewing, and don't get stuck in the Netherrealm! The Thunderous Wizard and Bling Blake are just two assholes whose appeal went out in the 90s! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Their fight. Our future! Lingering Questions – Best fight of the film? (27:21) The "Kneel Before Kahn" Trivia Challenge – The Thunderous Wizard challenges the field to trivia about the movie. Grandma's Boy – Don't Judge Us, Monkey

Ignored when it was released, Grandma's Boy became one of the quintessential stoner comedies of the 2000s. For good reason, it's very funny, doesn't take itself at all seriously, and features some top-tier performances from up and coming actors — including Nick Swardson and Joel David Moore. Listen, this isn't high art. Grandma's Boy is a stupid movie where a pothead teaches a chimpanzee karate, Jonah Hill's character sucks on a boob for 13 hours straight, and an old lady boasts about giving Charlie Chaplin a hand job. If that doesn't sell you, you should consult Mr. Cheezle about your energy. Now, sit back, get ready to game with a Great Pines American IPA from Aldi's, and prep for that robot legs operation! The Thunderous Wizard and Bling Blake are going to Antiques Roadshow! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – A movie that proves you're never too old to come of age! Lingering Questions – Who's the funniest character in the movie? (30:10) The "Demonik" Trivia Challenge – Bling Blake challenges the field to trivia about the movie. Street Fighter – Make those Bison Bucks Rain

1994's Street Fighter is a perfect example of the lawless ass 90s. Like other video game movies of the era, it ignores all the things that made its inspiration great. Unlike many of its contemporaries, though, Street Fighter overcomes its terrible script, weak acting, poor casting, and ludicrous plot. That is thanks in large part to the late and certainly great Raul Julia as villainous M. Bison. In his final film role, it’s safe to say he understood the assignment. Now, sit back, harness your psycho power with a Dual Torpedo DIPA from Sierra Nevada, and blow up that invisible boat! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are going to kick Bison's ass so hard that the next Bison wannabe is going to feel it! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – The ultimate battle! Lingering Questions – There's no denying this movie is bad, but is it so bad that it's actually good? (30:35) The "Good Morning, Shadaloo" Trivia Challenge – The Thunderous Wizard challenges the field to trivia about the movie. The Last Starfighter – Fire Up the Death Blossom

The Last Starfighter is wish fulfillment the movie. A teenager hoping for bigger things gets called to action because of his sick arcade skills. That call is to become a starfighter in the coming war with the treacherous Xur. It's a charming, silly little film that definitely sought to capitalize on moviegoer's continued love of the Star Wars franchise. In spite of horrid effects and a cornball script, it mostly works. And it has become an 80s cult classic. That nostalgic love, though, was not enough to earn it a sequel — an idea that has been floating somewhere in the vacuous space of development hell for a couple decades. Now, sit back, prepare to fight the Ko-Dan Armada with an Imperial Luau Krunkles from Terrapin Beer Co., and watch out for shape-shifting assassins! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are desperate to be recruited to the Star League! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – For every Earthling who's ever dreamed of adventures beyond the stars, comes the astonishing story of one who made it! Lingering Questions – Does the dated CGI cause The Last Starfighter to crash and burn? (33:51) The "I Need an Ear Job" Trivia Challenge – Chumpzilla challenges the field to trivia about the movie. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – Victorian Avengers

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen failed so spectacularly it ended two careers — that of the legendary actor Sean Connery and its director, Stephen Norrington. Based on a comic co-written by Alan Moore, the property had the bonafides to be more than just dispensable popcorn theater. Sadly, a disastrous production—plagued by delays and abusive behaviors from its star— ultimately relegated it to the dustbin of comic book movie history. Despite its troubled path to screens, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is not entirely unwatchable. The seams of a decent film are scattered throughout. They just can't escape the pedestrian script and abominable CGI. Now, sit back, Hyde-up with a M-43 from Old Nation Brewing, and burn that grotesque painting! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are hellbent on committing evil shenanigans across the globe! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – The power of seven become a league of one! Lingering Questions – For a film with extraordinary in its title, why is this film so uninspired? (37:14) The "Sword of the Ocean" Trivia Challenge – Bling Blake challenges the field to trivia about the movie. Clifford – Steffen Did It

Clifford centers on an obnoxious pre-teen who thrives on being an asshole. To that end, his entire goal in life is to get his uncle to take him to a dinosaur-themed amusement park. When his Uncle Martin's life gets in the way, Clifford sets out to ruin him. Hilarity does not ensue. That's mainly because—and we probably buried the lede—the titular character is played by Martin Short. He doesn't look 10, and he certainly doesn't act 10. This one is a slog, folks. Now, sit back, get ready to roar with a Pseudo Sue from Toppling Goliath Brewing Co., and aim that laser at Larry! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are slipping Tabasco sauce into Capt. Cash's drink! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Uncle Martin is suffering from a little problem! Lingering Questions – Why, Marty, just why? (21:13) The "Dinosaur World" Trivia Challenge – The Thunderous Wizard challenges the field to trivia about the movie. The Pest – Voodoo Mambo

The Pest is obnoxiously unfunny. Full of racist gags and manic energy, it is the epitome of the lawless ass 90s. And, listen, this pod loves John Leguizamo. He's had a fantastic career. But he's going 110 in a 35 zone here and essentially none of it works. We may not be rich Germans with an enthusiasm for hunting humans, but it's hard not to see their point with The Pest. After about 20 minutes of his schtick, death seems to be the only acceptable recourse. Now, sit back, drown out the noise with The Poet from New Holland Brewing, and pass one stinky dinky ... ha, ha, ha! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are livin' life in Miami's Vice! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – The schemin'est, keenest scam artist! Lingering Questions – Is this the new Shit Movie Champ? (33:07) The "Ridica-licka-lous" Trivia Challenge – Bling Blake challenges the field to trivia about the movie. Expendables 2 – Biceps, Blood, and Bullets

Expendables 2 is the ideal sequel. It's literally perfect. No notes. Watch it now, or rest in pieces! So, sit back, get locked and loaded with a Capiche? from Paperback Brewing Co., and we now pronounce you man and knife! Firewalker – Temu Indy

Firewalker, another of Chuck Norris' many collaborations with Cannon Films, is exactly what you'd expect from a low budget Indiana Jones ripoff. The script is bad, the plot is ludicrous, and we never even get to see what the bad guy intends to do with his desired magical abilities. Despite all that, Firewalker does have its charms—most of which lie heavily on the back of Louis Gossett Jr. Predictably, in a film with Norris as its lead, emotive acting is in short supply. Without Gossett as his sidekick, Leo, and John Rhys-Davies doing a bizarre Foghorn Leghorn accent, this movie would've been quite the slog. Now, sit back, perform the last rites with a Seeing Colors from Mad Tree Brewing, and be wary of El Coyote! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are scouring Mexico for ancient Aztec gold! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – A pair of down-and-out fortune hunters cash in on high adventure! Lingering Questions – What exactly does the titular Firewalker do? Sidekicks – Are We Men or Marvin Milquetoasts?

Sidekicks is essentially The Karate Kid with a giant dose of wish fulfillment. In it, Barry Gabrewski (played by the late Jonathan Brandis) spends his days daydreaming about busting skulls with his favorite action hero, Chuck Norris. Of course, since this is a kid learns karate to better himself movie, he ultimately meets Norris, gets the girl, bests his bully, and overcomes the issues that have plagued him. Along the way, we get some good old timey 90s racism and a handful of fantasies themed around Norris' filmography. Sidekicks isn't exactly high art, but it will remind you that Norris generally just plays himself, as he does here, and the key to life is learning how to dodge dumplings. Now, sit back, douse those bricks with a Pupil IPA from Societe Brewing, and chase those dreams! The Thunderous Wizard and Bling Blake are donning our dusters and mullets to kick some mafia ass! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Barry Gabrewski is about to learn that the greatest weapon you possess is self-control! Lingering Questions – Who's our ideal action movie partner? Invasion USA – It's Time

Few things are more American than action movies where lone heroes murder foreigners with lethal impunity. Invasion USA proudly carries that torch. Only it does so poorly. Like most films starring the bearded badass known as Carlos "Chuck" Norris, Invasion USA is a Cannon joint. Yes, that Cannon. The script sucks, it looks cheap, and it somehow makes less sense than most other films in the genre. What it does do well, though, is depict all manor of patriotic fueled violence. So, come for the jean vest and dry quips but stay for the bazooka dismemberment. Now, sit back, stretch out those legs with a Big Dippa from Reformation Brewery, and find that armadillo! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are dual-wielding uzis in our best Canadian tuxedos! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – America wasn't ready, but he was! For Your Consideration – Snubbed

For Your Consideration is another mockumentary from acclaimed satirist Christopher Guest. But unlike his previous efforts, this one failed to capture the hearts of longtime fans. Taking aim at the absurdity of Hollywood, For Your Consideration fails to find the magic of his prior three films. The characters are less likable, the target is far larger, and the narrative focus just never finds its center. Its reviews and tepid box office reception reflect that dip in quality. With a budget double that of A Mighty Wind's ($12 million), it grossed less than a third of that movie's total ($5.9 million). Now, sit back, prep your Oscars speech while enjoying a Backyard Berry from Blake's, and go easy on the face lift! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are going home for Purim! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – A film about the movies, about the movies! Lingering Questions – Why didn't this work better? Argylle – Poor Henry

Argylle is a spy movie about mistaken identity that lacks a clear one itself. Full of convoluted plot twists and set pieces overrun by pastels and other insane imagery, Argylle is a film that clearly thinks it is far better than it actually is. One can forgive that self-assurance considering its director, Matthew Vaughn, has quite a track record of success—including in the genre. That said, the irrational confidence Vaughn displays throughout Argylle's painful 140+-minute runtime is mind-boggling—as are its increasingly stupid double crosses. Argylle, which was planned to be a trilogy, not only earned every bit of the hate critics heaped on it, it also deserved its massive flop status. So, sit back, jog your memory with a Strawberry Blonde Ale from SanTan Brewing, and don't forget the cat! The Thunderous Wizard and Bling Blake are whirly birding all over Director Ritter's secret hideout! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – The greater the spy, the bigger the lie! Waiting for Guffman – Still Waiting

A cult classic, Waiting for Guffman is a mockumentary chronicling a small community theatre's production of its town's history. Boasting a host of exceptional improv actors — Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, and Fred Willard to name a few — the Christopher Guest written and directed feature is jam packed with laughs. Guest, who also serves as the films lead Corky St. Clair, is in his comfort zone here. He gets the material, letting the actors take command and playing to their immense comedic strengths. Although it is beloved now, Waiting for Guffman was not a huge hit. In fact, it barely made it to the big screen. Its critical success, however, did lead to several more films in the same vein — Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. All of which are worth watching, as well. So, sit back, calm those jitters with a Fear.Movie.Lions Hazy Double IPA, and break a leg! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are done working for these bastard people!
