Episode 234 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 10-09-2026

Hello Hockey Fans episode 234 of the Hockey free For All Topics is here and it’s like mid-season already. #1. Absolutely not. Alexander Nikishin is not even remotely worth Adam Engstrom and multiple 1st round picks. #2. Montreal does not need Alexander Nikishin. #3. I wouldn’t even trade Kaiden Guhle even up for Alexander Nikishin. Because when Kaiden Guhle is healthy, he is clearly a better defenseman. #4. 16th overall in the 2020 NHL entry draft, is not a fair trade for 69th overall, in the 2020 NHL entry draft. #5. Montreal has 8 legit defensemen on the left-hand side. #6. Montreal has 9 legit defensemen on the right side. #7. That is 17 and they do not need to trade any of them away or acquire any others from anyone else. #8. Really, now it’s Dalibor Dvorsky to Montreal? Come on, give a rest and at the same time, grow up. #9. Montreal does not have 6 difficult player decisions to make in 2027 and here is why. #10. Physicality of the future is Tyler Thorpe, Florian Xhekaj, Gleb Pugachyov and Hayden Paupanekis, all forwards yet to arrive address the same size and skills and have higher upsides and in some cases are even bigger and Owen Protz and Arber Xhekaj. #11. The Montreal Canadiens have 13 centers. Just to clarify and put an exclamation point on that, that is 3 sets of starting 4 centers plus and extra. #12. Montreal has 6 starting left wingers, not even on the team! #13. Montreal has drafted not just well, but exceptionally better than all other clubs in the league and has an exceptional talent pool that spans every position. #14. It’s official. The 2026/2027 season will be the final season for Alexander Ovechkin. What an amazing player and career and why. #15. If the Montreal Canadeins do not win the Stanley Cup in 2026/2027, I hope the Washington Capitals win the Stanley Cup and Alexander is the MVP of the regular season, The Conn Smyth winner of the playoffs and walks away a Stanley Cup Champion. #16. Stop with Dylan Larkin, Montreal does not need Dylan Larkin for any reason. #17. Montreal does not need Mark Scheifele either in any way, for any reason or to fill any so-called believed voids. #18. Dylan Larkin, Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck are not even remotely worth what their clubs are asking for and expecting in return. Their ages and productivity do not justify the trade package demands. Regular seasons have been far more consistent than the playoffs for Dylan Larkin, Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck.

Episode 232 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 10-02-2026

Hello hockey fans, episode 233 of the Hockey Free For podcast has arrived. This episodes topics include- #1. The eventual starting 6 defensemen for the Montreal Canadeins will be? #2. Arber and Florian Xhekaj would make a very interesting 2/3rds of a 4th line. #3. It’s so exciting and fantastic that Kirill Marchenko has been traded to the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and Michael Knies has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets and Why. #4. Did anyone actually notice what it actually took, to make the Marchenko/Knies trade, versus the outright pure insanity that was suggested that Montreal would have had to give up to acquire either or both of these players? #5. Is it highly questionable if any of the other players involved in the Marchenko/Knies trade will even make or play for the new clubs? #6. There was only one draft pick involved in the Marchenko/Knies trade and it was conditional 2nd round pick that is all based on how Marchenko and Knies perform and where these team finish. Have people taken note of that extremely important fact? #7. No first round picks were given up or part of the Marchenko/Knies trade. Have people taken note of that extremely important fact? #8. No elite A-Level prospects or mortgaging of either Columbus or Toronto was a part of the Marchenko/Knies trade. Have people taken note of that extremely important fact? #9. Let’s look at Michael Knies stats to this point of his NHL career and why! #10. Let’s look at Kirill Marchenko stats to this point of his NHL career and why! #11. The reason Knies and Marchenko stats are relevant and why! #12. Neither Michael Knies or Kirill Marchnko are game changing players. #13. What it would have actually taken for Montreal to acquire Marchenko or Knies or both would have been and turned out to be far different than the screaming insanity out there was saying and calling for. #14. Neither Marchenko or Knies are even remotely worth Hage, Alexander Zharovsky, Adam Engstrom, Owen Beck, David Reinbacher or Jacob Fowler individually let alone a package that would include several. #15. Yes, let’s trade Kirby Dach to the Edmonton Oilers. Absolutely and why. #16. No, Adam Engstrom and Luke Mittelstadt have not positioned themselves as trade assets or trade bargaining chips. Both Adam Engstrom and Luke Mittelstadt have positioned themselves as important organization pieces and members and the team’s success. #17. Jocelyn Thibault must be extremely busy still trying to pull his foot out of his mouth, regarding his off-season comments regarding Jakub Dobes. #18. Jakub Dobes was the reason Montreal won their opening game and why. #19. Josh Anderson had a fantastic season opening game and quickly showed why he was chosen as the new alternate Captain. #20. Alexander Carrier had a solid season opening game.

Episode 232 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 09-25-2026

Hello Hockey fans episode 232 of the Hockey Free For Podcast is here as training camps have started and the 2026/2027 regular season is just around the corner. This week’s topics include- #1. The Canadiens do not in any way need to force the Columbus Blue Jackets Hand and offer a massive offer in any way to obtain Kirill Marchenko and why. #2. Kirill Marchenko would be a top 9 forward in Montreal. Not a top 6. #3. Montreal does not need Ryan O’Reilly in any way, for any reason, he is not a perfect fit in any way in Montreal. #4. Fraser Minten’s new contract is in no way any kind of measuring stick for Zach Bolduc’s next contract. #5. David Reinbacher and Adam Engstrom have arrived. #6. Time to move on from Kaiden Guhle, Alexander Carrier and Jayden Struble. #7. Then as Bryce Pickford, Bogdan Konyushkov and Owen Protz arrive, it time to move on from, then Mike Matheson, Noah Dobson and perhaps Arber Xhekaj stays at left wing all the time? #8. The eventual top 6that form Montreal’s defense are? #9. Forwards Florian Xhekaj and Owen Beck are not just knocking on the door, they have also arrived and should replace Phillip Danault and jake Evans. #9. Stop with the Dylan Larkin garbage. #10. Alex Newhook is clearly Montreal’s number 2 center. #10. Time doesn’t heal all wounds and why. #11. Chris Krider should have absolutely no impact on Alex Newhook. #12. Chris Krider should absolutely have zero effect on the chances of Florian Xhekaj or Owen Beck making the team. #13. Chris Krider could impact Kirby Dach’s roster spot. #14. Chris Krider could impact where Zach Bolduc plays and how often. #15. What some are predicting the starting 4 lines way off and why. #16. The Montreal Canadiens do need or have any use or need for Connor Hellebuyck. #17. Winnipeg would require a completely ridicules return package that would destroy Montreal. #18. Connor Hellebuyck is 34 years old! #19. Montreal already has 2 better and far younger stud goalies in Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler. #20. No kidding this could be Phillip Danault’s last season in Montreal and why. #21. I have never understood the acquisition of Phillip Danault and never will. #22. I can only imagine who Montreal would have selected with that high second draft pick #23. Nikkita Kucherov to Montreal? Really, is there illicit drugs in the water supplies? #24. Nikkita Kucherov is not a good fit in Montreal and why! #25. There is no competition between Juraj Slafkovsky and Chris Krider. Juraj Slafkovsky win’s hands down and why. #26. Wow, the Kirill Marchenko rumors are just getting more ignorant by day, have heard this one? #27. Nope. Montreal does not need a 33-year-old center by the name of Mark Scheifele either and why.

Episode 231 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 09-19-2026

Hello Hockey Fan’s, episode 231 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived as the 2026/2027 training camps and regular season slowly approaches, this week’s topics include- #1. The Montreal Canadeins have actually signed the hockey player that ended star goaltender, Carey Prices career. #2. I wish Chris Krider the best. #3. It will be interesting to see how plays it out in Montreal. #4. Carey Price himself has clearly taken the high road. #5. Where does Chris Krider play and on what line? #6. The Chris Krider signing is a band aid for? But it Screws? #7. Alex Newhook should be Montreal’s number 2 center. #8. Oliver Kapanen is a solid 3 and he;s not the team’s #2. #9. Zach Bolduc not worth 4.2-million-per-season and why. #10. The St. Louis Blues got the far better player and why. #11. Josh Anderson has been named an alternate captain. #12. Arber Xhekaj’s new contract is just the tip of the iceberg and why. #13. Jayden Struble’s expires at the end of the 2026/2027 season, he’s an RFA. #14. Alexander Carrier’s contract expires at the end of the 2026/2027 season and he is an UFA. #15. Kaiden Guhle’s health and injury history is of an epic concern now and moving forward and why. #16. When Kaiden Guhle returns it might just be the perfect opportunity to make that very uncommon 1 for 1 trade and send Kaiden Guhle to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Kirill Marchankov and a 2nd round pick and why. #17. Adam Engstrom should replace Kaiden Guhle in game one on the regular season 2026/2027 and the team should move on from Kaiden Guhle. #18. Kaiden Guhle is an excellent player, no question when healthy. His health history is just far to risky. #19. If David Reinbacher has a solid training camp, at a minimum, he play 42 games and outright replace Alexander Carrier and Jayden Struble by the 2026/2027 playoffs. #20. Great news. The Montreal Canadiens have signed Alex Newhook to a new 4-year, 22-million-dollar contract worth 5.5 million dollars per season. #21. The best news of all the Montreal Canadeins have signed Head Coach Martin St. Louis to new 4-year contract heading into the 2026/2027 season and #22. The Washington Capital’s have signed right winger Ryan Leonard of the Washington Capitals signs a new 8-year contract. #23. The Anaheim Duck’s have signed center Cutter Gauthier of the Anaheim Ducks signed a new 6-year contract. #24. Jordan Stall has signed a new 1-year contract worth up to 10 million dollars with the Carolina Hurricanes. #25. Cale Markar is injured, how much time will he really miss? #26. Lightning forward Yanni Gourde is out to at least December. #27. Toronto Maple Leaf forward Max Domi Failed his physical and is out indefinitely due to complications of medical procedures during 2025/2026 season.

Episode 230 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 09-11-2026

Hello Hockey Fans, episode 230 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived and with training camps just around the corner, this episodes topics include- #1. The Montreal Canadeins top 6 forward roster are spoken for already. #2. The Montreal Canadiens do need to acquire another dud top 6 forward from another team. #3. Of course, everyone wants to make trades with the Montreal Canadiens and why. #4. Teams want to unload bad, bloated contracts. #5. The Toronto Maple Leaf’s have made a lot of changes, let’s see how it plays out. #6. The Buffalo Sabres have assembled an excellent new management team, but there are many questions. #7. Would Connor Hellebuyck make a difference in Buffalo, maybe. But? #8. The asking price of the Winnipeg jets will be over the top insane. #9. Connor Hellebuyck will be 36 years of age, not 26 years of age. That fits very few teams. #10. The Boston Bruin have a massive number of questions of their own heading into the 2026/2027 season. #11. The solution and future of the Detroit Red Wings starts with Hiring of- #12. Dylan Larkin has been stripped of his captaincy and deserves it. #13. Dylan Larkin and Patrick Roy both believed they were bigger than and the best players of their organization and they were both wrong. #14. How does Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou make the Washington Capitals automatic cup contenders? #15. Alex Tch and Jordan Kyrou will benefit greatly from teammates Alexander Ovechkin, Ryan Leonard and Tom Wilson. #16. Yes, Jordan Kyrou has been a 3 time 30 plus goal scorer and 70 plus point player 3 times in his first 5 NHL season, but he’s no- #17. Why can’t the Montreal Canadeins start the 2026/2027 season with 3 goaltenders? #18. The Montreal Canadeins have done the best drafting for at least in the last 5 consecutive years of any NHL club. #19. The Montreal Canadeins have the best Management team, the best head coach, the best scouting team, the best player development department in all of the NHL. #20. Is Montreal’s success a surprise? #21. Hat’s off to Arber Xhekaj and his agent! #22. No, Jacob Fowler does not compare to a young Carey Price. #23. What are believed to be the 3 worst trades in Montreal’s History. 2 of the 3, I agree with. #24. The top 6 goaltenders in Montreal history are and not? #25. Personal issue between Jose Theodore and Jakub Dobes? #26. When Marco Marciano replaced Eric Raymond, Jakub Dobes was lights out. #27. Yevgeni Volokhin signing another 3-year contract with his KHL team, is not a problem at all. #28. Only Huston of the 3 cities being looked at, makes sense and why. #29. Chris Kreider to Montreal makes less sense than any and all other acquisitions, and the reason is frighteningly obvious.

Episode 229 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 09-04-2026

Hello Hockey Fan’s! Episode 229 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived for your listening enjoyment and to catch up on what’s happening over the long and uncomfortable hot summer. This episode’s topics include- #1. This has too rate as the most senseless trade proposal to date that the Montreal Canadiens need to make or consider, without a doubt. #2. Alex Killorn is 36 years old, Hello! Doesn’t that raise a red flag to anyone? #3. Where does Alex Killorn fit in? #4. Let me understand this, there are people that want the Montreal Canadiens to trade for and thereby acquire the player that ended Carey Prices career? #5. No one actually thinks that there might be a safety issue for Chris Kreider once he is acquired, are you serious? #6. Anaheim would be appropriately offended by a net return of Xavier Simoneau and Tobie Bisson for Alex Killorn and no more than Josiah Didier and Vincent Arseneau for Chris Kreider, However? #7. How can that even remotely be a fair return for Alex Killorn and Chris Kreider? They are 36 and 35 years of age respectfully. They both are in the final year of their contracts that pay 6.25 million dollars and are thereby 1-year rentals and Anaheim needs to dump salary to be able to sign other RFA’s and players in their organization. #8. There is no player in the NHL worth Adam Engstrom, Alexandre Zharovsky, Jacob Fowler or David Reinbacker straight up, that enhances Montreal roster more than these prospects would and why. #9. Adam Engstrom replaces Kaiden Guhle #10. David Reinbacher replaces Noah Dobson #11. Bryce Pickford replaces Alexander Carrier #12. Bogdan Konyushkov replaces all of the rotating 3rd pairing right-handed defenseman. #13. Owen Protz replaces Arber Xhekaj #14. On the left is: Lane Hutson, Adam Enstrom and Owen Protz paired with Bryce Pickford, David Reinbacher and Bogdan Konyushkov on the right. Problems solved, and defense is set for the next decade. #15. Why are there so many just flat out incompetent that want to trade elite top level prospects like Michael Hage, Alexander Zharovsky, Adam Engstrom or David Reinbacher, and equally, why are there so many just flat out incompetent that want to acquire players such as center Dylan Larkin, RHD Zach Whitecloud, RW Kirill Marchenko or LW Fillip Forsberg? #16. Has anyone even stopped for a second to consider that 2026 1st round pick Gleb Pugachyov may be as good as Kirill Marchenko right now and may even be better? #17. Let’s entertain 2 trade options for pure fun. Kirill Marchenko and a 2nd round pick to Montreal and Columbus acquires Kirby Dach, Zach Bolduc, Alexander Carrier, Jayden Stuble and maybe Vinzenz Rohrer? Trade 2 Montreal acquires Fillip Forberg and a 2nd round pick from Nashville. Nashville receives Arber Xhekaj, Florian Xhekaj, Fillip Mesar and Oliver Kapanen?

Episode 228 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 08-27-2026

Hello Hockey Fan’s, Episode 228 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived for you to get your summer hockey fix needs addressed. This week’s topics include- Its really good that the rookie and regular training camps are close at hand. Are people just hell bent on making trades, to make them? All of these trade proposals would weaken the Montreal Canadiens. What could the Calgary Flames or Philadelphia Flyers offer the Montreal for Arber Xhehaj? Would Philadelphia send Porter Matrone to Montreal straight up for Arber Xhekaj? No! The Montreal Canadeins have absolutely no physicality, sandpaper and grit on their NHL roster other than Arber Xhekaj. Within the entire organization, Montreal has 5 prospects that bring sand paper, grit and true in your face hockey and they are? Only Florian Xhekaj of those 5 will be on the roster in 2026/2027. Owen Protz, Bogdan Konyushkov and Gleb Pugachyov are at least another year away. Not Likely Owen Protz has a come out of nowhere/lights out, must find a spot for the rookie, he’s at least a year away. Bogdan Konyushkov is under contract with the KHL in 2026/2027. Gleb Pugachyov needs at least the 2026/2027 season in the KHL, could he be ready after? Other than Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj is the 2nd most valuable defenseman in Montreal Who protects Cole Caufield, Lane Hutson and others if you trade Arber Xhekaj? Did everyone miss the excellent playoffs that Arber Xhekaj had? Kaiden Guhle has yet to show he can stay healthy. Noah Dobson had an ok regular season. It wasn’t lights out. Noah Dobson’s playoffs were subpar. Price was too high for Noah Dobson. Noah Dobson doesn’t use his frame to his advantage. Noah Dobson played his best hockey when paired with Mike Matheson. Is Noah Dobson a good foot soldier, absolutely. Starting 3 RHD in Montreal Should be. Starting 3 LHD in Montreal Should be. Alexander Carrier and Jyden Struble are role players. Zachary Bulduc at best is a 3-million dollar per-year-player. Zachary Bulduc was acquired for scoring Did Zachary Bulduc have a good playoff defensively? Yes! Never was a fan of trading Loggan Mailloux for Zachary Bolduc. Loggan Mailloux is a 6’ 3 212 lb plus, Nasty, fluid skating right-handed defenseman that extremely hard to find Loggan Mailloux is establishing himself as St. Louis’s number 1 Right-Handed defenseman. Zachary Bolduc and Noah Dobson have not shown much yet. Lots of work if Zachary Bolduc wants to stay in Montreal. 2-year bridge deal with max of 3 million per season for Zachary Bolduc. Does anyone truly care about Patrik Laine possibly signing with a division rival? I would not be surprised even remotely if he plays in Europe this upcoming season. Teams are Lukewarm on Patrik Laine? Alexei Vlasov is far more interesting than Zachary Bolduc or Patrik Laine.

Episode 227 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 08-21-2026

Hello Hockey Fans. Episode 227 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived for you to take a listen to, this week’s topics include- #1. Offensive talent that shouldn’t even be considered, let alone be in any kind of trade discussions. #2. #1. Defensive talent that shouldn’t even be considered, let alone be in any kind of trade discussions. #3. #1. Goaltending talent that shouldn’t even be considered, let alone be in any kind of trade discussions. #4. In addition to the obvious, this additional talent shouldn’t even be considered, let alone be in any kind of trade discussions. #5. How has this in any way been a quiet summer in Montreal. The organization has very effectively and professionally taken care of business. They moved Bredan Gallagher, Hired a new head coach in Laval, Hired a new assistant coach in Montreal. Signed Ivan Demidov and Jakub Dobes to very smart contracts and avoided arbitration with Kirby Dach and put him on notice. How is that even remotely a quiet summer? #6. Don’t trade Arber Xhekaj if you have any intention of actually winning the Stanley Cup. #7. Don’t trade Adam Engstrom unless Kaiden Guhle proves for several seasons in a row that he can actually stay healthy. Adam Engstrom is his replacement. #8. Of course, every other club wants to make trades with Montreal. They want to get their hands on the prospects they completely missed. #9. The only players that should be available in Montreal are Samuel Montembeau, Jayden Struble, Alexander Carrier, Kirby Dach, Josh Anderson, Philip Danault, Kaiden Guhle, Zachary Bolduc, Jake Evans, Alexandre Texier, Mike Matheson. #10.the Vancouver Canucks are having a very productive organizational off-season. In addition to new general manager Ryan Johnson, Ryan Stewart has been hired as director of hockey strategy and player evaluation and Adam Sergerie as a pro scout.

Episode 226 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 08-14-2026

Hello Hockey Fan’s! Episode 226 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived, this week’s topics include- #1. The game that ended Patrick Roy's career in Montreal. #2. The Ego of Patrick Roy and Mario Tremblay. #3. Mario Tremblay left Patrick in goal for that entire game to break his ego. #4. No one is more important than the organization itself. #5. The problems and conflicts that Mario Tremblay and Patrick Roy hated each other as roommates long before Mario Tremblay was named head coach. #6. Both Patrick Roy and Mario Tremblay forgot the golden rule. Check your ego at the door. #6. No one has a richer tradition than the Montreal Canadiens. #7. As good as a goaltender that Patrick Roy was in the regular season and money in the playoffs, Patrick Roy is not even in the top 5 best of Montreal Canadien goaltenders all time? Those 5 spots unquestionably belong to Ken Dryden, Jacques Plant, George Vezina, George Hainsworth, Bill Durran, my favorite goaltender of all time Vladislav Tretiak. Going outside of the organization: Martin Brodeur, Henrik Lundqvist, Marc Andre Fleury and I’ll take Andrei Vasilesky or Nikolai Khabibulin at number 10. At best, I’ll slot Patrick Roy here for 2 reasons. Roy played more games and won more Stanley Cups in the modern era. #7. The players that came to Montreal in that trade never had or were given a chance to succeed. The deck was stacked against them from day 1. They were put in a no-win situation. #8. Michael Ryder thought he was more than what Montreal viewed him as. #9. Michael Ryder’s relationship with the Montreal Canadiens turned sour and he was insulted by the Canadiens offer. That was his and his agent’s choice, so he went elsewhere. #10. No doubt that Michael took great enjoyment in winning the Stanley cup with the Boston Bruins of all teams. #11. I would be surprised to learn in the least if then Head Coach Guy Carbonneau had issues with Michael Ryder like Head Coach Mario Tremblay did with Patrick Roy, as Carbonneau benched Ryder on a regular basis. #12. Ryder had a solid career. Good for him and hat’s off to wanting something different and following through on it. #13. Expansion is likely again and the structure is unfair to both clubs and players that have done their jobs, to only get the shaft, for the betterment of expansion clubs. Not their problem or concern. #14. Completely understand one city that’s being considered. There is definitely one city that should be at the top and conserved the number and obvious selection and there is one city being considered for a 3rd time and my question is, how failures does it take to realize it makes zero sense and is an obvious bad choice. Conversation for episode 227.

Episode 225 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 08-07-2026

Hello Hockey Fans, Episode 225 of the Hockey Free All Podcast has arrived for you. This weeks topics include- #1. Thankfully, Gary Bettman nixed this trade in 2009 between the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning. #2. Vincent Lacavalier was good. Was he that good? #3. Carey Price gave everything he had and could, including his own health and longevity to the team. #4. Jaroslav Halak would have called players out. #5. Carey Price would have been far better off in San Jose or Dallas. #6. The best 2 defensemen that Carey Price had in front of him during his entire career were Andre Markov and Shea Weber much later on. #7. Andre Markov was not Chris Pronger, Rod Langway Brian Engblom or Scott Stevens. #8. Shea Weber was the modern definition of the James Norris. #9. Kirill Marchenko does not present a massive opportunity for the Montreal Canadiens. #10. Montreal’s top 6 spots are spoken for already. #11. What the Columbus Blue Jacket would want back from Montreal for Kirill Marchenko. NOT A CHANCE! #12. Now if Columbus wants to discuss some combinations of? Ok then. There’s room for dialog! #13. Here’s a one for one option. Montreal sends Kaiden Guhle to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Kirill Marchenko, no, no. Not in a straight one for deal. But for Kirill Marchenko and draft picks coming back to Montreal, as Kaiden Guhle is the better player and the likely captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the next 10 plus season, like Rod Langway was in Washington in the trade that made the Washington Capital a legit NHL club. Anyone recall that trade and impact on both clubs, for the next 10 plus years? #14. Should the Montreal Canadiens be entertaining the idea of and the reported interest from the Philadelphia Flyers suggested desire to acquire Arber Xhekaj from the Montreal Canadiens, not if the Montreal Canadiens actually have any desire to win the Stanley Cup. #15. Montreal’s depth on the Left-side boast’s: Lane Hutson, Kaiden Guhle, Arber Xhekaj, Mike Mathenson, Jayden Struble, Adam Engstrom, Owen Protz and Rasmus Bergvist. That’s not even all of the left side depth, but that’s 8 on the left side. #16. Montreal’s depth on the right-side boast’s: Noah Dobson, David Reinbacher, Bryce Pickford, Bogden Konyushkov. That’s 4. Hold on there’s more, Dmitri Kostenko, Daniil Sobolev, Luke Mittlestadt, the recently drafted Cooper Cleaves who is a 20-year-old, over age 6’ 03 over 200lb right-handed defenseman out of Dartmouth the Canadiens have tracked and liked for over 2 years drafted in 2026 and the 2026 2nd round selection of Tim Runtso. That’s 9 on the supposed weak right side and makes for 17 all together on both sides. #17. Those who believe Montreal missed the mark in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft are really clueless.

Episode 224 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 07-31-2026

Hello hockey fans Episode 224 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived. Take a listen to this week’s topics that include- #1. Montreal trades 24-year-old 5’ 09 175-pound forward prospect Sean Farrell to Anaheim. #2. Montreal Acquires 23-year-old 6-foot 183-pound right wing Sasha Pastujov from Anaheim. #3. Montreal Canadiens Director of player Development Adam Nichols thought extremely highly of Sean Farrell, so this is a very intriguing trade in many ways. #4. Stop! Montreal does not need Kirill Marchenko. He is not the perfect addition to or fit in Montreal’s top 6. #5. The Montreal Canadiens have a lot of and the internal talent and prospects in the league, hands down! #6. The Montreal Canadiens have drafted exceptionally well and far better than anyone else multiple years! #7. Prospect Michael Hage, center at Michigan University, and Alexander Zharovsky, a winger in the KHL are the last 2 pieces of the top 6 in Montreal, no one else. #8. Macklin Celebrini has signed a new 5-year, 94-million-dollar contract with an annual cap hit of 18.8 million. I’ve but wow and that’s just nuts! But so are the new contracts of Leo Carlsson and Connor Bedard. #9. The Short-term mind-blowing excessive contracts that have been handed to Macklin Celebrini, Leo Carlsson and Connor Bedard right after the 3-year entry deals conclude, have league destruction ramifications. #10. The cap is not and will not rise even remotely at the rate contracts are. #11. The top 2 defensemen and top 6 forwards will eat up 80% plus of team’s caps coming sooner than you think and it’s not good at all. #12. No one is the NHL today is even remotely on the same level of ability and skill of Mario Lemieux, Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky or Jaromir Jagar. No one else even comes close. #13. I’ll take Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux or Jaromir Jagar over Maklin Celebrini, Leo Carlsson, Kirill Kaprizov or Connor Bedard any day. #14. Has everyone just completely forgotten about or written off the excellent regular season that Oliver Kapanen had, like it never happened? #15. It would be very surprising if Kirby Dach amounts to anything more than a top 9 winger in what will likely be his last season with Montreal unless something drastically changes. #16. Why can’t Oliver Kapanen continue to build on and remain the team’s 2nd line center? #17. Here’s an even better question. Why is Alex Newhook not the obvious choice as the team’s number 2 center? #18. Alex Newhook had a tremendous start, return from injury and was clearly one of Montreal’s top 3 players in value and production in the 2025/2026 playoffs! #19. Don’t like those options, platoon or alternate Danault and Evans #20. That doesn’t even include Florian Xhekaj, Owen Beck, Vinzenz Rohrer or Jared Davidson?

However, he’s done absolutely nothing in his career to this point to warrant an offer sheet or contract of that magnitude. #11. Leo Carlsson is coming off a 3-year entry level deal that paid him $925,000.00 are you kidding me. #12. Do not confuse Leo Carlsson in any wat with? #13. Episode 220 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast 07-03-2026

Hello Hockey Fans, episode 220 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast has arrived and it’s just been a trading and free agent frenzy. #1. An insane number of trades to talk about and catch up on #2. The free agent frenzy begins #3. Montreal does right by Brendan Gallagher #4. With Bredan Gallagher trade, does that open-up a roster spot for Florian Xhekaj to win or lose in the 2026/2027 training camp? #5. Where will the remaining big names get traded to, will they get traded? #6. The Montreal Canadiens make a series of AHL trades. #7. The New Jersey Devils fire the first shot with an offer-sheet to an RFA. #8. The San Jose Sharks and the Utah Mammoth made statements in the draft, and now in the insane trade and free agent markets. #9. The Montreal Canadiens have submitted qualifying offers restricted free agents: Arber Xjekaj, Zachary Bolduc, Jarred Davidson, Sean Farrell, Kirby Dach, Hunter McKnown, Brett Berard and Maksymillian Szuber. #10. Will Kirby Dach, Zach Bolduc and Samuel Montembeau be a part of the Montreal Canadiens moving forward? #11. The Florida Panthers are doing more than a few tweaks to their roster. #12. The Montreal Canadiens have signed another long-term/cornerstone piece of their franchise, as right winger Ivan Demidov signed an 8-year 73 million extension with an annual cap hit of 9.125 million dollars. #13. The Ottawa Senators have signed group 6 free agent Ryan Suzuki to a contract, so there will be no reuniting of the Suzuki brothers in Montreal to join the Xhekaj brothers. #14. The Montreal Canadiens walked away the biggest winners in the trade and free agent frenzy for 2-reasons, find out why. #15. Michael Hage has left the door open, just a little bit for the 2026/2027 season. The really good news is that Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes will do what’s right for both Michael Hage, as well as the organization, and will not be affected, derailed or influenced by what anyone else thinks, nor should they be. It’s about the prospect and organization not what anyone wants. #16. The Montreal Canadiens did not event remotely miss the mark in the 2026 Draft and allowed talent to go elsewhere or be drafted by other clubs. Again, a true statement of ignorance by those who said and believe that. The Montreal Canadiens not only hit the mark dead-on, Montreal nailed the 2026 draft, and addressed exactly what the organization wanted in every round, sandpaper, grit, size for their roster and long-term Right-handed defenseman options. #17. In yet the dumbest remark yet, are there really people that believe that the Montreal Canadiens should replace Martin St. Louis with Bruce Cassidy. Does ignorance have no limits? #18. Martin St. Louis is the best coach in Montreal since Scotty Bowman. #19. Alexander Ovechkin will return for his 22nd season.

Hello Hockey Fan’s. Episode 219 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast, the 2026 NHL Entry Draft episode has arrived. The Topics include- #1. More pre-draft trades. #2. Draft Day Trades. #3. Few NHL Clubs make the number of trades that the Las Vegas Golden Knights do. #4. The Anaheim Ducks, St. Louis Blues, Utah Mammoth and Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes were no slouch either, when it came to trades at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. They were all very active. #5. Teams moving up and down the draft board in a way and with a frequency seen on very few occasions in the NHL. #6. The 2026 NHL Entry Draft set a new record as to the greatest number of goalies ever selected in an NHL Entry Draft with 34, selected in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. #7. The Montreal Canadiens made 2 minor AHL trades to enhance the AHL roster in the 2026/2027 season. #8. Kent Hughes was actively moving around on the draft board targeting very specific players that the Montreal Canadiens wanted in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. #9. Fortunately, the Montreal Canadiens were not involved in any of the major trades and did not mortgage their team, prospects of future away, by paying the excessively ridicules compensations that clubs were demanding for underachieving and overpaid players. #10. The 2026 NHL Entry Draft focused on sandpaper, grit, in your face physicality for the Montreal Canadiens, which was clearly the biggest need that the Montreal Canadiens had in the regular season and was a very obvious need in the playoffs, especially against the Carolina Hurricanes. #11. As much movement and transactions have already been completed, there are still optionally many other trades the could occur on July 1st/Canada Day as Dylan Larkin, Zach Werenski, Kirill Marchenko, Vincent Trocheck, Connor Hellebuych or is Michael Knies still available? The Montreal Canadiens should grab group 6 free Agent Ryan Suzuki on July 1st, walk away from everything else. Have a nice quiet summer, heal up and wait for the 2026/2027 training camp. #12. The San Jose Sharks, The Toronto Maple Leaf’s, Anaheim Ducks and the Seattle Kraken had the best drafts, but the Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Utah Mammoth also had really a really good draft and should not be left out either.
