Lindsay Clancy Trial: Friend Calls It "A Good Day" — Then a Trooper Drops a Facebook Bombshell
Lindsay Clancy, the 34-year-old Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023, was back in Plymouth Superior Court as jurors heard from two very different witnesses. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. First up: Kyle Carney, a friend of Patrick Clancy's, who testified that the day of the killings looked like nothing at all — normal, unremarkable, a good day. No warning signs. Then Massachusetts State Police Trooper Andrew Chiachio took the stand and the mood in the room changed. He detailed pulling surveillance footage from a nearby CVS and Three V Restaurant, and revealed that six months after the incident, investigators got a warrant to swab the outside of the Clancy home for possible DNA. A second warrant targeted Facebook, surfacing a May 2021 post from a parenting support group where Clancy described every day with Dawson as a battle. But on cross, Reddington got Chiachio to admit something that cuts the other way — no evidence Clancy was ever abusive toward her son turned up anywhere. The jury was dismissed after the two testified. Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood what she was doing despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial is expected to run several more weeks. Bryan Kohberger Is Waiting On One Person To Speak
Whether Bryan Kohberger gets a new trial in the Idaho student murders may turn on a clump of hair, and almost every outlet is reporting that evidence wrong. The centerpiece of his bid to undo the guilty plea is hair. He says clumps of it were found in Ethan Chapin's hands, that it wasn't his, and that his own attorneys never told him it existed before he signed away his trial. Almost every outlet covering the Idaho student murders is reporting that wrong, and the correction matters. There are two separate pieces of hair evidence in this case. One was recovered from Chapin's hand — and according to PEOPLE, a DNA expert hired by Kohberger's own defense tested it and found it consistent with Chapin's own reference hair. The second is a set of strands a forensic scientist found stuck to a bed frame, who told Fox News Digital the FBI lab excluded Kohberger. Those are not the same item, and the difference decides whether this petition means anything. Tony works through what the hair could prove at its absolute best, and why the attorney for one victim's family says it isn't the exoneration it's being sold as. Unknown hair inside a home where six young people lived, with visitors coming and going, doesn't undo a knife sheath, a cotton swab pulled from a garbage can in Pennsylvania, or a purchase record from months before the killings. There's also the part of the story that explains the timing of the plea itself. Prosecutors filed a witness list. A name appeared on it. He folded. And the man who discovered the disputed hair wasn't a reporter or an investigator chasing the case from outside. He was working for the defense. That single fact takes the floor out from under the claim that anything was hidden.
