    John Carpenter's Vampires

Send us Fan Mail Episode 279 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at John Carpenter's Vampires. It might well be Carpenter's last financially successful movie, but is it Carpenter's last genuinely good movie? The reviews were somewhat lukewarm at the time, and comparisons with Dusk Till Dawn and Near Dark did it no favours, but time has been surprisingly kind to this coarse, dirty and highly entertaining horror western. Listen in via your podcast platform choice to see if this 90s genre classic is worthy of reappraisal and if it does indeed belong higher up on the list of Carpenter classics.

    The Last Starfighter

Send us Fan Mail Episode 278 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at 1984's, The Last Starfighter. One of the decade's finest sci-fi adventures? A great concept ultimately let down by a handful of suspect performances? Somewhere in between? One thing we can all agree on though is that Catherine Mary Stewart might be the ultimate ride or die girlfriend as the infinitely likeable, Maggie Gordon. Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to see if this beloved sci-fi classic has stood the test of time.

    Navy Seals

Send us Fan Mail Episode 277 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at, what on paper, should have been one of the better action movies of the decade, 1990's, Navy Seals. With a great cast, a solid premise and a handful of wonderful set-pieces, it felt like Lewis Teague had all the ingredients required for an action classic.....so, what happened? Why did Navy Seals disappoint both critically and commercially? Is it actually something of an underappreciated classic or is it ultimately less than the sum of its parts? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

    American Ninja

Send us Fan Mail Episode 276 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at Canon Films classic, 1985's, American Ninja. Bad acting? Check. Dodgy stereotypes? Check. Ludicrous premise? Check.....still kinda awesome? Check. Like its star, Michael Dudikoff, American Ninja might not be, well, objectively good, but there is definitely something about it. Does it hold up in 2026 though? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

    Explorers

Send us Fan Mail Episode 275 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at one of the most wildly uneven movies of the 80s, Joe Dante's. Explorers. With its fantastic cast, wonderful sense of adventure and brilliantly evocative Amblin sensibilities and aesthetic, 1985's, Explorers remains a genuinely great movie.....until it doesn't. Just how wrong do things go in the third act? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out. Spoiler alert.....very. The go very wrong.

    The Fan

Send us Fan Mail This week, we dive into The Fan — a film that reminds you just how thin the line can be between admiration and obsession. On the surface it’s a slick mid‑90s thriller, but underneath it’s a character study about Fan devotion. You’ve got the fan who believes the star owes him something — that his loyalty, his passion, his identity somehow entitles him to a piece of the man he worships. It’s that dangerous cocktail of devotion and delusion that turns admiration into expectation… and expectation into obsession. It’s tense, it’s sweaty, it’s uncomfortably real — and exactly the kind of movie that lets us dig into the messy psychology behind fame, identity, and the people who think they deserve a piece of both.

    Sneakers

Send us Fan Mail Episode 273 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at one of the best, and most overqualified casts of 90s cinema. Don't get me wrong, Phil Alden Robinson's crime caper is a very enjoyable movie....but does it deserve this cast? And why doesn't anyone talk about this movie anymore? Is it deserving of a renaissance? Does it hold up in 2026? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

    Invaders from Mars

Send us Fan Mail Episode 272 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at Tobe Hooper's B-movie love letter to the 1953 original, 1986's, Invaders from Mars. One of many 50s inspired B-movies from the 80s, does Tobe Hooper's, Invaders belong in the same conversation as 1988's, The Blob, or does it fail to recapture the magic of the 1950s original? Oh, and how bad can on-screen running get? Well, listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

    Unforgiven

Send us Fan Mail Episode 271 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at a movie Rob assumed he would hate....turns out, he was wrong. Unsurprisingly, Clint Eastwood's Oscar winning deconstruction of the Western genre is still pretty good. How good though? Has it stood the test of time? Are the performances as magnetic as they were in 1992? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

    Maximum Overdrive

Send us Fan Mail The latest Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at what is objectively one of the worst Stephen King adaptations, 1986's, Maximum Overdrive. Stephen King's one and only step into the director's chair is, by his own admission, something of a cocaine-fuelled disaster....and it shows. Make no mistake, Maximum Overdrive is not a good movie. Is it a fun one though? Well, that's up for debate. Filled to the brim with schlocky action, memorably bonkers line deliveries and plenty of unintentional comedy, despite its understandable critical savaging, there is a reason this movie has lived on as something of a cult classic. Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to see what we made of it.

    Extreme Prejudice

Send us Fan Mail Episode 267 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at the best 80s movie that you've probably never heard of. Walter Hill's, 1987 neo-western, might have its faults, but it also has one of the greatest casts of the decade, is wonderfully shot, and above all else, is home to a genuinely elite Nick Nolte performance. Did the movie deserve better? How does it hold up today? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

Back to the Future Part III

Send us Fan Mail Episode 266 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob finally look back at, whisper it, the best of the Back to the Future sequels, 1990's, Back to the Future Part III. It might lack the iconic moments of Part II, but thanks to its more structured narrative and emphasis on character, Part III is probably a better movie than you remember. Is it worth revisiting though? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

    Dog Soldiers

Send us Fan Mail Episode 265 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob are looking back at cult British horror classic, 2002's, Dog Soldiers. Neil Marshall's best movie? The second best werewolf movie (after American Werewolf in London, of course)? A perfect amalgamation of Predator, Alien and Assault on Precinct 13? Above all else, how has it aged? Send us Fan Mail Episode 264 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob are looking back at the Wachowski's divisive take on Tatsuo Yoshida's iconic 60s manga, 2008's, Speed Racer. Inventive avant-garde film making or an expensive eyesore? A bit of both perhaps? Whatever the case, one thing is for sure - 18 years after its original release, and there is still nothing quite like Speed Racer. Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out if this utterly unique slice of big budget film making has stood the test of time.

    Little Monsters

Send us Fan Mail Episode 263 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at one of the strangest 'kids' movies of the 80s. A bizarre curio to be left in the past or a unique slice of 80s cinema that deserves to be revisited? Well, the answer to that will largely depend on your tolerance for Howie Mandel and whether you think Fred Savage was a particularly likeable child actor.....oh, and then there is the matter of monsters wearing the skin of other kids' faces. Yeah, that might be a hurdle too. If nothing else, Little Monsters remains utterly unique. Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to see what we made of it.

    Flash Gordon

Send us Fan Mail Episode 260 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at sci-fi cult classic, 1980's, Flash Gordon. As surprisingly dark as it is colourful, as camp as it is oddly sincere, and as horny as it is family friendly, Mike Hodges and Dino de Laurentiis' take on the 30s serial source material is nothing if not utterly eclectic. Does it hold up though? Is it chintzy or charming? Unforgettable or just plain annoying? Listen in via your podcast of choice to find out.
