In February 1978, five young men with intellectual or psychiatric conditions disappeared after a basketball game in Chico, California. Their undamaged car was found abandoned on a snowy mountain road, far off their route home. Months later, the remains of four of the men were found near a mountain forest trailer 20 miles away; they died of hypothermia and starvation. The fifth man, Gary Mathias, was never located.
