Established in 1827 in East Bethany, New York, as the Genesee County Poorhouse, the facility originally sheltered the destitute, orphans, and mentally ill. It later transitioned into a psychiatric facility before closing in 1974. With over 1,700 documented deaths, the historic site has since become a museum and globally recognized destination for paranormal tourism.
