196: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry are moving back to the UK!
Royals: Minutes 0 to 27:45 We skipped the introduction this week due to the breaking news about the Sussexes moving to the UK. Harry and Meghan are moving to England "for an extended period beginning this month" and have enrolled Archie and Lili in school there. They're not going to be returning to royal duties at all. We wonder what is driving their decision. This could be a tax or immigration issue for Harry. We've also heard that Charles may be sicker than we know. Sources are saying that Harry and Meghan only decided in early August to move, which doesn't sound likely to us. We also wonder whether they told Charles about their plans when they visited him in July. Reports claim that Charles didn't learn about it until Sunday. The British press had some advance stories about Harry and Meghan returning to the UK but they put such a messed up spin on it that it was hard to believe them. The Windsors have wanted Harry and Meghan to come back to the UK, but only if they could control them. They're returning in a position of power as global superstars. In People Magazine's coverage they mentioned that Harry and Meghan are on Trump's radar and that "with the midterm elections fast approaching, concerns about the direction of the U.S. loom large for many." Harry may fear that his immigration status will become an issue if he stays in the US. We're worried about the kids. We wonder what the school is going to be like, and whether the kids are going to be targeted by the press and paparazzi. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. There's another segment on our YouTube shorts this week with our Zoom group's first reaction to the news. They heard about it while they were on Zoom. Harry and Meghan are making an informed decision. We don't know them and we don't live their lives. We're still worried about their family despite how privileged they are. 195: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry are in the UK
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:30 I saw Backrooms, Masters of the Universe and Disclosure Day. Chandra saw The Drama and thought it was overrated. She also finished the show The Other Bennet Sister. Royals: Minutes 5:30 to 16:30 Prince Harry and his co-plaintiffs, including Elizabeth Hurley and Sir Elton John, lost their case against Associated Newspapers for hacking. The suit was filed in 2022 and alleges that The Daily Mail wiretapped, bugged and used illegal methods to get information for stories. The judge in the case was a former barrister/lawyer who represented The Mirror, so he definitely had a conflict of interest. The judge didn't represent The Mirror at the same time that Harry sued them. Harry issued a scathing statement about the ruling. The timing of this ruling is dark Harry as visiting the UK now. It looks like Buckingham Palace, King Charles and RAVEC set Harry up. They've gone back and forth about whether Harry was offered a place to stay by Charles. They also denied him security, which he's been trying to get for years, because the investigation into whether he should be afforded security as a non-working royal was paused! This inquiry was paused in March, essentially denying Harry security, however they only told Harry after he confirmed the details of his trip. Meghan, Archie and Lili were originally scheduled to come with Harry, but given the lack of security we weren't sure they would come. News broke late Friday that they were in the UK and had met with Charles and Camilla. Harry has been so unbothered during his events in London. No one seemed to care but Charles posed in a tank earlier this week just as Harry was arriving. Kate only did one event this week and William's events have been lackluster. Chandra thinks there was a real turning point after Harry got such positive press for visiting the UK last year. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding: Minutes 16:30 to 24:30 There was a huge buildup to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's 1,000-person wedding at Madison Square Garden. We still haven't seen photos. There weren't enough seats for everyone and Travis and Taylor's vows lasted 40 minutes total. The wedding favors were embroidered handkerchiefs. 194: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry's Frogmore Cottage to be gutted
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:40 I recommend the movies Obsession and I Love Boosters, both of which are in theaters. I also love Margot's Got Money Troubles. Chandra and I are watching Widows Bay and love it. Chandra is also watching The Other Bennet Sister and recommends Magpie Murders. Royals: Minutes 6:40 to 22:30 The last time we talked was about a month ago, right after Harry and Meghan's successful trip to Australia. Harry had just arrived in Ukraine at that point. Since then, Meghan went to Geneva to help open the Lost Screen memorial, Kate had a successful trip to Italy and William saw Aston Villa play in Istanbul. Kate's trip was well received and she even spoke a little Italian. In a recent interview William admitted that he didn't know Kate spoke Italian. Will and Kate have a planned trip to India in November. There's a rumor that they'll be going to the US in July, but that has not been confirmed. William wants to come for the World Cup. Chandra does not think that Kate and the kids will join him. Harry and Meghan celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary last week. Meghan posted a little video of her kids singing happy anniversary and of the lemon elderflower cake and penguin sculpture Harry had custom made for her. Meghan explained the meaning of the penguins, because they wore penguin onesies at their engagement party since penguins are together for life. The press obsessed over that for days. Tom Sykes made fun of Meghan's traditional Italian kitchen, calling it a Taco Bell kitchen. It's a beautiful kitchen and that's ridiculous. It's thought that they haven't done renovations to their home, althought there are mixed reports about that. We heard that the Windsors are planning to renovate Frogmore Cottage. Meghan and Harry had it renovated in early 2019 before they moved in, so it's been extensively renovated and redecorated, and they even paid the cost back, at about £2.4 million pounds or $3.1 million dollars. A source told The Sun "It's been empty for three years… Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it." They want to erase all taste of Harry and Meghan. The next big royals event we have coming up is Harriet Sperling and Peter Phillips' wedding, which is scheduled for Saturday June 6th. Peter is Princess Anne's son, he's 48, and Harriet is 45 and works as a pediatric nurse. I'm really looking forward to that wedding. The big storylines revolve around Peter snubbing Prince Harry by not inviting him, they also ">didn't invite Prince Andrew, and about whether Harriet will wear a tiara and if so will it be one of her future mother-in-law's tiaras. The stories about Peter Phillips' wedding are similar to the stories around Hugh Grosvenor's wedding. 193: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry's wildly successful trip to Australia
Introduction: Minutes (0) to 8:15 I just got back from a trip to Florida. I saw a bunch of herons eating fish out of a pond. We think bird watchers are cool. I watched The Housemaid and enjoyed it. Chandra didn't finish that. She watched the French Jodie Foster movie, A Private Life. She also read Belle Burden's Strangers and recommends it. Royals: Minutes (8:15) to 28:00 Harry and Meghan went to Australia for a four day trip from April 14th to the 18th. On Friday April 10th Prince Harry's former charity Sentable announced it was suing Prince Harry and one of the other trustees, Mark Dyer, for defamation and libel. Sophie Chandauka made a hostile takeover of Sentebale last year aided by Prince William's ally Ian Rawlinson. This lawsuit seems to be based on Harry's resignation from Sentebale as a patron. The timing was meant to steal headlines from Harry and Meghan's Australian tour and it only worked briefly. Harry and Meghan's trip to Australia was a massive success and they had huge crowds wherever they went. They went to Melbourne, where they visited a children's hospital and veteran's museum and went on the Scar Tree Walk, and to Sydney, where they had multiple events on Sydney Harbour and Bondi Beach and attended a rugby match. Harry gave a speech at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and spoke at the InterEdge summit while Meghan taped a guest judge segment on Masterchef Australia and did a Q&A at the Her Best Life retreat. There were conflicting reports about what Harry and Meghan were paid, with some reports that they were taking nominal fees to cover their costs. During the Australian trip Meghan announced that she invested in a fashion discovery platform called OneOff and premiered an account with them. During this trip she kept her clothing on OneOff updated, with affiliate links. She wore a lot of Australian designers and of course they got a huge boost in sales. Women's Wear Daily estimates that Meghan's fashion in Australia drove over $51 million in media impact! They had quotes from some of the labels who said Meghan wearing their clothing drove hundreds of thousands in sales! The British press used Meghan's OneOff account to attack her. Chandra didn't even report on Tom Sykes' despicable take on it. I play a clip of Meghan talking to students at Swinburne University of Technology about how she's been attacked for 10 years and how she gets through it. The way Meghan was attacked for saying that proves her point. There was a story that Robert Irwin, who works with Prince William on EarthShot, declined to meet with the Sussexes. Irwin is an ally of Prince William and that story was very pro-William. We don't believe it but it turns out he was in the US during the Sussexes' visit anyway. We remember when William tried to claim that Jose Andres was his friend after Andres joined Earthshot's board. Andres posed with Harry in New York and appeared on With Love, Meghan after that. There was a clip of Meghan smiling at a staffer when the staffer put her hand on Harry's back. Someone edited it with AI to make it look like Meghan was glaring at the lady. Tom Sykes used it to recycle all the old lies about Meghan being a bad boss. The reason why there was so much outsized criticism of the Australian tour is because it's a Commonwealth realm. During this trip the Sussexes called out a few outlets, including the Australian Daily Mail, for publishing their itinerary during the embargo and putting their safety at risk. Harry made a surprise trip to Ukraine this week and made sure to limit press availability for his safety. This week was the late Queen Elizabeth's 100th birthday. The royals marked the occasion with a memorial and a dry reception. They released a photo of the left behinds and they it looked out of date, old and stale. The contrast between this photo and the optics of Harry and Meghan's trip were stark. 192: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry's new spokesperson is excellent
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:45 This awards season was long due to the Winter Olympics. We enjoyed it other than the BAFTAs. We're so glad Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor but are bummed that Sinners didn't win Best Picture. This awards season had a good vibe and the Oscars were entertaining. Chappell Roan: Minutes 6:45 to 24:00 The big story this week was about Chappell Roan's bodyguard harassing an 11-year-old girl and her mother at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ada Law is Jude Law's fifth child. Her mother, Catherine Harding, and stepfather, football star Jorginho, are also famous. We reported it when Ada was born. We also remember when Jude had his fourth chilld with a one night stand, Samantha Burke. Brazilian soccer star Jorginho posted that one of Chappell Roan's bodyguards approached his wife Catherine Harding and daughter Ada at their hotel after Ada smiled at Chappell during breakfast. Ada was in Sao Paulo to see Lollapalooza Brazil for her birthday, where Chappel was performing. All Ada did according to Jorginho and his wife was walk past Chappell's table and smile at her. The bodyguard then went up to Ada and her mom's table and told Catherine that she should teach her daughter not to harass other people. Catherine tried telling him that Ada was just a child and he continued berating them. I play an excerpt from Catherine's video explaining what happened. After Jorginho posted about this, but before Catherine's video came out, Chappell recorded a very low effort video where she's in bed half denying the story. She said the security guard was "not my personal security" and that she didn't see the girl. She also apologized at the end, but it was like it was an afterthought. Chappell's rep issued a statement basically reiterating what she said and claiming it was a third party security guard. The hotel issued a statement making it clear this was not their security guard. The bodyguard was IDed as a Pascal Duvier. He used to work for Kim Kardashian and got fired after she was robbed in Paris. Duvier issued a statement saying he wasn't part of Chappell's security team and that his interaction with the mother was due to an increased security threat or something. Chappell has a reputation of being rude to fans, unlike other pop stars like Taylor Swift. I play a clip from Zoom where Lisa talked about this. We remember when Chappell was both sides-ing politics during the last election. Royals: Minutes 24:00 to 33:15 Last week Variety came out with an unhinged hit piece on Harry and Meghan with vague complaints about Meghan. Netflix and the Sussexes denied many of the false assertions in the story point by point. We wonder if the Sussexes should have issued a separate statement because their denials got buried. This week, Deadline got an exclusive that the Sussexes are producing a scripted polo series for Netflix. They're also working with other streaming platforms. We wish they would do more promotion for their shows, like the Polo documentary series. Harry and Meghan are going to visit Australia in mid April. Harry is going to be a keynote speaker at the InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit in Melbourne, which is April 15-16. Meghan is going to make an appearance at a women's retreat conference in Sydney which is on April 17-19. After that news came out there were predictable hit pieces about their trip. They're not doing this for money because they're taking nominal appearance fees. There's been a narrative that they're broke, but that's not true. There was a Change.org petition claiming that Australian taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for their security. Meghan and Harry's spokesperson hit back at that, saying "The trip is being funded privately, so I'm not sure what this petition hopes to achieve." 191: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry's trip to Jordan criticized, Sinners wins best ensemble at the Actor Awards
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:15 I've been watching The Pitt and Paradise. I also really like Best Medicine on Fox. Chandra loves Josh Charles and knows him from Sports Night and The Good Wife. Chandra follows tennis, and lot of tennis stars were stuck in Dubai after playing in the Indian Wells tournament and have had to go to extreme measures to get back to their home countries. Actor Awards: Minutes (6:15) to 12:45 On Sunday we had the Actor Awards, which is the new name for the Screen Actor's Guild Awards. At the SAGs Sinners took home Best Ensemble, which brings them a little closer to the Best Picture Oscar. This was also Ryan Coogler's second win in that category at the SAGs, he previously won for Black Panther, and he's the first director to win twice. We're so happy Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor. Chandra is so relieved that Timothee Chalamet didn't win. It was great to see the excitement for Michael B. Jordan. We hope this means his chances are better at the Oscars. Oscar voters are voting later as they're actually watching the movies. I play a clip of Amy Madigan responding to Michael B. Jordan's win. I think Sinners is a more memorable film than One Battle After Another. Chandra thinks they're both memorable and mentions that they're both being memed a lot too. Royals: Minutes (12:45) to 21:00 Last week we talked about Harry and Meghan's trip to Jordan through the World Health Organization. This week we got some predictable raging about that, with sources claiming that they need their titles removed and that they can't do humanitarian work because William forbids it! Whenever the Sussexes go anywhere, they get briefed against by the other royals. This time it was mostly William complaining though. Charles seems to be briefing against Harry less. There's a new book out by The Daily Mirror's royal editor Russell Myers called William and Catherine: The Monarchy's New Era. It's very much propaganda from the Waleses. It was released last month in the UK and is coming out in the US on March 10. Some stories that have come out of the book include the claim that William never assaulted Harry and that William and Kate disliked Meghan from the start and thought she "had an agenda." William was gatekeeping Harry's charity work and didn't want him working on military issues, as Harry wrote about in Spare. William and Charles were also said to be furious when Harry issued a statement defending then-girlfriend Meghan Markle from the negative press about her. 190: Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry visit Jordan
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:15 Chandra is really into the musician Sombr. Here's a link to his Variety interview that Chandra mentioned and his song Back to Friends. We're both watching Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. We love the music and the setting really brings us back to the 90s. The actors, especially the leads Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly, are doing a great job. They also got the hair and fashion right after early test images were widely criticized. I think they did the Jackie Kennedy and Daryl Hannah characters dirty. BAFTAs: Minutes 5:15 to 16:00 The biggest news from the BAFTAs was the fact that a man with tourette's syndrome, John Davidson, shouted the N word early in the ceremony when Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting. The BBC's broadcast of the BAFTAs was on a two hour delay. They had plenty of time to cut that word but they did not. On Sunday night, Sinners production designer Hannah Beachler tweeted that Davidson also shouted the N word at her and at another woman. The emphasis in coverage was on John Davidson and his intent rather than the people who were harmed. It took the BAFTAs until the next day to issue an apology. Davidson's initial apology centered himself and didn't acknowledge the hurt he caused. Deadline had an exclusive that executives from Warner Brother reached out the BAFTAs about it right after it happened. WB was assured that the BBC and the show's production company would be notified about cutting the slur from the broadcast. There was an obvious lack of care for the Black artists who had to present after that moment. Delroy Lindo told Variety in an interview at the after party that no one reached out to him or Michael B. Jordan and that he wished "someone from BAFTA spoke to us." Host Alan Cumming later said during the ceremony "We apologize if you are offended tonight." After his initial apology, Davidson gave an interview to Variety the next day. He spoke more about his condition and he said that his production company was told that the BBC would edit out his tics from the show. What's more is that he was 40 rows back from the stage but was seated near a microphone. It seems like a set up. Prince William is president of BAFTA and he hasn't said anything about this. We think American artists should boycott the BAFTAs. A British filmmaker named Jonte Richardson resigned from a BAFTA panel over this and BAFTA is reportedly doing a review. Royals: Minutes 16 to 20:30 Harry and Meghan just did a two day trip to Amman Jordan organized by the World Health Organization, which is part of the UN. It was like a diplomatic trip that someone like Angelina Jolie might do. On Wednesday they took part in a panel discussion with UN leaders and visited a refugee camp and a hospital. Thursday they made a visit to a rehab facility, Jordan's National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts, and wrote sweet notes to the people there. They also visited World Central Kitchen and a cancer center. There were stories in the British press claiming that the Jordanian royal family snubbed the Sussexes, which wasn't true. 189: Prince Andrew arrested at Wood Farm, The Oscar-nominated movies
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 1:45 Chandra has been going through a tough time and we've been protecting our peace. We celebrate our 20 year anniversary next week! I founded Celebitchy in February, 2006 and Chandra has worked here since late 2008. Royals: Minutes 1:45 to 14:00 Prince Andrew was arrested at Wood Farm in Sandringhham on Thursday for "suspicions of misconduct in public office." New documents in the latest Epstein file release suggest that he traded confidential information with Epstein in a kind of quid pro quo for access to trafficked girls. Police also searched Andrew's former residence, Royal Lodge. Andrew had to be forced out of Royal Lodge earlier this month after being spotted riding his horse and waving to tourists. He was originally supposed to move out last year. In the latest cache of Epstein files it came out that Epstein had trafficked a 20-year-old woman to Prince Andrew in 2010. Andrew could face years in jail. King Charles issued a statement after Andrew's arrest saying, in part, "the law must take its course." His previous statement from February 9 was that he stands "ready to support" the police "as you would expect," and "their Majesties' thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse." Other family members have also said they were thinking of the victims. Charles and Queen Elizabeth's defense has been that they believed Andrew's lies. This defense falls flat when you consider that they had MI6 at their disposal. Andrew still has royal protection somehow. We learned too many things that we don't want to know about Epstein and his evil associates. We don't get into the details. I pay a segment from Zoom from last week we talked about the royals and Epstein. Chandra hopes that Andrew has to face real consequences and thinks this may be the end of the monarchy as everyone is involved. We've heard that Prince William's charity received donations from known close associates to Epstein. Will and Kate are mishandling this despite hiring a crisis manager. William recently did a BBC interview were he talked about men's mental health. This was widely criticized as tone deaf. Oscar-nominated movies: Minutes 14 to end Chandra has seen Sinners, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, The Secret Agent, Bugonia, Frankenstein and half of Sentimental Value. I've seen Sinners, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, Train Dreams and half of Hamnet. I didn't like Train Dreams or Hamnet, although I only saw half of Hamnet. Chandra loved Sentimental Value and says the acting is amazing. She hopes Wagner Moura wins best actor for The Secret Agent. She loathed Marty Supreme and thinks Timothee Chalamet should not win for that performance. I liked Marty Supreme a lot. My favorite movie is Sinners and I want Michael B. Jordan to win. Chandra wants Teyana Taylor to win supporting actress. This awards season has been chaotic. I also saw If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and didn't like it. Chandra liked Bugonia but mostly for the ending. She also loved Lanthimos' Poor Things and thinks Emma Stone deserved the Oscar for that.

188: Duchess Meghan visited Paris Fashion Week, Prince Andrew renounced his titles
Intro: Minutes 0 to 6:30 Chandra has been watching Dexter: Resurrection. She also watched The Materialists but doesn't recommend it. I saw One Battle After Another and enjoyed it. I loved The Long Walk. I have been watching a Canadian comedy called Corner Gas. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to Since we last recorded, the second season of With Love, Meghan came out and we've also had two drops of As Ever products. Harry did a four day tour of England in September, went to Ukraine and visited his dad. Meghan went to the Balenciaga show at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month. She looked serene, glowy and rich and her surprise appearance was a success. It came out that she's friends with Balenciaga's new creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. He told The Cut that he's been friends with Meghan for years and that she asked if she could attend the show. There was a dumb manufactured controversy over Meghan's visit to Paris after she posted a little Instagram story of her feet while she was in a limo in Paris. The Daily Mail called the video insensitive and claimed she was driving near the tunnel in Paris where Princess Diana died. Meghan's video was taken over a kilometer away from the Pont de Alma tunnel. Meghan attended the Fortune Summit in Washington, DC last week where she talked about the future of her businesses. She also went to a women's networking dinner held by Emma Grede over the weekend. There was some ridiculous criticism of this dinner. On Friday, October 10th, Harry and Meghan were honored for their charity work at for World Mental Health Day in New York. Princess Kate co-authored a little essay ahead of that on how smartphones are bad. Harry and Meghan founded the Parents Network over a year ago and were being honored for that. Last week, around October 15th, Kate and Will made a surprise visit to Northern Ireland. They've been on vacation this week. On Friday, October 17th, Prince Andrew announced in the afternoon our time that he was voluntarily no longer using his titles. He's largely stepped back from royal life in the past few years but we've seen him at family events and it's obvious he has Charles' support. Charles was clearly trying to send a message to Harry by inviting Andrew to royal events. It looks like there was a deal worked out between Charles and Andrew that Andrew gets to keep Royal Lodge and his daughters get to keep their titles. Chandra thinks Charles believes Andrew's lies. We admire Virginia Guiffre for telling the truth. Andrew's announcement came a few days after we saw a 2011 email he sent Jeffrey Epstein after the release of Andrew's infamous photo with then 17-year-old Virginia Guiffre. Andrew wrote to Epstein "we are in this together" and "we'll play some more soon." An email between Fergie and Epstein was also leaked. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:15 I watched Trainwreck: Woodstock 99, The Shark Whisperer and Opus. Chandra loves The Gilded Age and Patience. We both watched Murderbot. Royals: Minutes 5:15 to 22:30 Last weekend French President Macron made a state visit to the UK. Will and Kate were only there to welcome the Macrons. They were sidelined during most of the visit, and then went to the state banquet with a last minute confirmation. Their fashion choices at dinner seemed pointed. William did not wear the Windsor men's uniform including red cloth on the collar and we learned that was deliberate because he's going to do things differently when he's king! Kate did not wear white like all of the other women and instead wore a red Givenchy gown. We then heard that Kate was sending a message to Meghan considering that Givenchy designed Meghan's wedding gown. William and Kate did not pose for photos at the dinner with the Macrons, as is typical at state dinners. Kate's assistant/stylist Natasha Archer stepped down last week after 15 years. When Archer left she made her Instagram public, either deliberately or through incompetence. She was initially following over 1,700 accounts including so many of Meghan's close friends and collaborators. These are people she would have no other reason to follow other than to stalk Meghan. Archer did a mass unfollow after that and now she's only following around 300 people. It took days for the British press to pick up that story but it's now in the Daily Mail. Kate has copied Meghan's outfits, heels and sneakers openly for years. We wonder if leaving her Instagram public is a deliberate move by Archer. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Representatives for The Sussexes and King Charles had a "peace summit" meeting in London last week at a private club. This was between the Sussexes' representative in the UK, Liam Maguire, their new communications director, Meredith Maines, and Charles' communications director, Tobyn Andreae. Andreae was hired by Charles in 2022 and he's a former editor of The Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday. The Mail on Sunday got an exclusive story about the summit, which was clearly from Andreae. Sources told The Telegraph that Harry's side definitely didn't leak the news of the peace summit. Chandra doesn't think Harry was surprised by the leak though. No one from William's side was invited, but they kept leaking stories about how enraged William is at the Sussexes. William took it personally that Harry and Charles's representatives met. Meanwhile there were all these stories about how William will never forgive Harry, but Harry and Meghan need to apologize and come back to do royal work. Will and Kate's Wimbledon outing was reportedly ruined after news of the peace summit broke. We talk about how childish Prince William is and how he's like Trump. I say Kate is the British Melania, but Chandra thinks she's like Ivanka. There was a story last month in The Telegraph about how Charles wants Harry and his family at his funeral. The Daily Beast reported that Charles' rep Tobyn Andreae tried to shut that story down before it was published and warned the royal rota not to pick it up. Chandra thinks Edward Enninful might have something to do with it. Wintour was in Venice for the Bezos Sanchez wedding. We know Sanchez's dress is going to be trashy. Royals: Minutes (8:30) to 29:45 We found Meghan's Confessions of a Female Founder podcast informative and inspirational. We wish we could get more AsEver raspberry spread. Chandra ordered two jars of apricot spread and I only ordered one. Some people have already received their AsEver orders. AsEver is releasing a rose wine on July first. That's Diana's birthday and a special anniversary for Harry and Meghan. Meghan has been steadily posting to social media. She's making the most headlines for a video from when she was pregnant and dancing in the hospital. It was funny and cute and the tabloids had a fit. Two reality stars at a King's Trust event recreated that dance on a staircase at the palace. You're not supposed to take personal photos or videos at royal receptions, but both the King's Trust and official Royal Family accounts commented positively on that post. We think it was a setup meant to mock Harry and Meghan but it just makes the Windsors look obsessed as usual. I play a clip from the Aspire podcast where Meghan explained why she posted that video. Camilla Tominey called it a "sexy slut drop," which is ridiculous. This week we heard that Prince George will be going to his father and uncle's boarding school, Eton, in the fall of 2026. I looked through our archives and there are stories as far back as January, 2019 about Kate pushing for her three children to attend her alma mater, Marlborough. We assume she was forced to give in about George's school, but Louis and Charlotte are likely to go to Marlborough. Last weekend were the Royal Ascot horse races, probably the biggest social event of the year. Kate pulled out at the last minute. It was a big deal judging by the coverage. Palace staff were said to be "bewildered and worried" and a source told the Daily Beast that Kate was tired after Trooping the Colour and Garter Day and that she has good and bad days. We got several negative stories about Kate after that, mostly about how she disrespected the King, but also just rehashing older negative stories about her. There were stories hinting that she didn't feel well, which they should have focused on. Kate is reportedly planning to go to Wimbledon, which is from June 30th to July 13th. She usually goes at the end, but in 2023 she went early to sit with Roger Federer. Hello Magazine has a cover story about Kate with the title "On her own terms." I put it on Instagram and the aspect ratio makes it say "On her own." Chandra had two tweets about Kate which went viral this week. It feels like the palace and press are turning on Kate. She might be quite sick, but they play fast and loose with the truth and the royals minimize illness, so it's hard to tell. Chandra remembers how Princess Anne's traumatic brain injury was swept under the rug and how she returned to work with bruises. Harry and William are covering US Magazine, and the article is about how William is mad Harry isn't his scapegoat anymore. It's part of William's embiggening campaign as he tells us about his plans to be king, and it sounds like he can't wait for his father to die. The press freaked out about Harry saying he didn't know how much longer Charles has, but had only a mild response to William. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 8:45 We plan to record about once a month for now. I love the show Berlin ER on Apple TV, it's a lot like The Pitt, which I'm also watching. We were disappointed in the ending of Severence. Chandra is excited for the finale of The White Lotus. Royals: Minutes (8:45) to 33:00 Meghan released her As Ever collection this Wednesday morning. She had shortbread cookies, jam, tea and flower sprinkles. Everything was sold out within an hour. I bought the jam and some lemon ginger tea and Chandra got two teas and a jam. People were mad about how quickly everything sold out. Meghan also launched a commission-based ShopMy page with clothing, makeup and skincare. A woman named Sophie Chandauka has taken over Prince Harry's Lesotho-based charity, Sentebale. Harry co-founded it with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006. Both Harry and Prince Seeiso resigned from Sentable in late March. The majority of the board of trustees resigned several days before the announcement. Chandauka spent over 400,000 pounds on consultants, lost a major sponsor, and demanded a 300,000 salary, which was not granted. She also failed to fundraise for them and alienated the board as she pushed her way to the top. It was a hostile takeover and was aided by a man named Iain Rawlinson, a former trustee of Prince William's charity, The Tusk Trust. Chandauka and Rawlinsin did an interview together on Sky News. Chandra wonders when Rawlinson started manipulating Chandauka. He was seen at a Sentebale event in October. In her Sky News interview, Chandauka's main example of Prince Harry bullying her was when he resigned from Sentebale after she threatened to sue them. Chandauka spouted Windsor talking points against Harry in an interview with the Financial Times. She also was mad that Meghan and Serena Williams showed up at the charity polo match last April. Chandauka blamed Prince Harry for her failure to fundraise for Sentebale despite the fact that he donated 1.5 million from his proceeds from Spare and that the polo match raised over a million also. She's the woman whom Meghan asked to move during a group photo at that match, giving her a more central place instead of on the side next to Harry. The press made a huge deal out of this at the time and Harry emailed or texted Chandauka asking her to make a statement in defense of Meghan. She refused and now sources are saying that if the email got out it would be damaging to Harry. If so, why don't they release it? The British press's reaction in early March to Meghan gently telling Mindy Kaling that her last name was Sussex revealed so much. The British charity commission is investigating what happened at Sentebale. The trustees have spoken on the record about how abrasive Chandauka is. There's an ongoing narrative that Prince Harry is lonely, that he never should have left England, that he should come back to England. He's probably relieved to be away from these toxic people. We're excited for the second season of With Love, Meghan and hope she does seasonal episodes. Meghan's podcast Confessions of a Female Founder comes out April 8th. Prince William is going to be on Jeremy Clarkson's reality show, Clarkson's Farm. You might remember Jeremy Clarkson's horrible screed against Duchess Meghan. 184: Duchess Meghan's new show, With Love, Meghan, is sweet
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 11:00 I watched Paradise with Sterling K. Brown on Hulu and didn't like how it ended. Chandra felt the same way about Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. I love The Pitt on HBO. We've both been watching Severance and love the performances. Chandra is watching The White Lotus and recommends Court of Gold on Netflix. I watched Heretic but don't recommend it. Oscars: Minutes 11:00 to 19:00 We had the Oscars this week and Chandra's favorite movie, Anora, won the most awards. We're glad Mikey Madison won for best actress over Demi Moore. Demi won plenty of awards and didn't go home empty handed. I wish that June Squibb was nominated for best actress for Thelma, my favorite movie of 2024. It takes a ton of money to campaign for an Oscar. Royals: Minutes 19:00 to 36:30 Since we last recorded we had the Invictus Games in Canada and Duchess Meghan's show With Love, Meghan came out. Last week, before the release of With Love, Meghan, Kate and William visited Wales and were such obvious copy-keens. They visited a cake shop and "made" cakes and Kate was sure to mention her jam and said she'd give the recipe to someone. Then we got a weaksauce story from a royal expert claiming Kate didn't marry for a title, but Meghan did. There's been a real silence from the palace as they figure out how to copy Meghan. I remember when Kate copied Meghan's Zoom background. With Love, Meghan is a sweet comfort watch where she makes food and does crafts with her friends. I've watched the first five episodes so far. Chandra has watched the whole thing and loves the episodes with Roy Choi and Vicky Tsai. It was cute to see Meghan interact with her friend Abigail Spencer. We talk about some of our favorite recipes including the salted fish and fried chicken. We recorded this episode before the news that With Love, Meghan got a second season. Chandra wants Roy Choi to go on again. She thinks the vocal critics of the show have never watched a cooking or lifestyle show. The critics want Meghan to be all things at once. In season two we hope they don't change things too much and just make little tweaks. Meghan was very smart this week about her PR including being on the cover of People. 183: Duchess Meghan's new Netflix show delayed
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:00 I am recovering well from a hysterectomy. Chandra had a stomach virus last weekend which is why we didn't publish on Sunday Oscar nominated movies we watched: Minutes 4:00 to 13:30 There are no spoilers in this section. We both loved Conclave as we discussed in the last episode. I want it to win best picture. I saw Emilia Perez before the controversies and I really liked it. We both saw Wicked. Chandra liked it more than I did. She loved Anora and wishes that Mikey Madison would have done a bigger Oscar campaign. We both hated The Substance and wonder why it's getting so much buzz. We both saw A Real Pain and liked it. We wonder why Denzel Washington wasn't nominated for his performance in Gladiator II. Chandra liked Maria and was hoping Angelina would be nominated. She saw A Complete Unknown and thought Timothee Chalamet was great in it. I highly recommend Day of The Jackal on Peacock and am watching Paradise on Hulu. We're both watching the second season of Severance. Royals: Minutes 13:30 to 22:15 In early January we got the announcement of Duchess Meghan's new lifestyle show on Netflix called With Love, Meghan. She's also back on Instagram. Her show was supposed to premiere on January 15th, but was delayed until March 4th due to the terrible wildfires in Los Angeles. NGN settled with Prince Harry on the day the trial was supposed to start. If Harry hadn't taken the settlement, it would have altered the case. This was a win for Harry since NGN admitted guilt. Harry's security case is still in the courts. The Invictus Games are going to be February 8th to the 16th in Vancouver. We hope Meghan is there most of the time, but we'll see. The Vanity Fair cover story on Harry and Meghan came out a couple of weeks ago. It's very similar to the British narrative we've been hearing about their relationship for years now, and it's insidious and despicable. Chandra wrote some good analysis about how the piece was meant to tear Harry down before he testified against NGN. Princess Kate and Prince William have done so many events this week. Kate's surprise visit to Royal Marsden hospital on January 14th was curiously timed. Politics: Minutes 22:15 to 29:30 Following the horrific plane collision between a US Army helicopter and a commercial flight, Trump did a press conference and blamed DEI policies. Both the plane crash and the response by Trump were predicted by a University of Maryland political science professor. He tweeted on January 29, a day before, that there weren't enough air traffic controllers and that Trumpers would blame a crash on DEI. Trump had recently fired the head of the FAA and put a hiring freeze on air traffic controllers. We're frustrated at people asking Democrats to do something. It will probably take some time before people realize that they were wrong to vote for Trump. Chandra highly recommends the movie Conclave. Poltics: Minutes 5:00 to 15:00 Trump won the election and it was a shock to put it lightly. We both believed that Kamala Harris was going to win. She ran an impeccable campaign. She was so on message, she was clear about her objectives, she had a literal to-do list and she emphasized inclusion and moving forward together. We're so disappointed in people. Here's the tweet from Baltimore's mayor that I mentioned. We don't think there's a way that Kamala could have run a better campaign, she was so disciplined. We're happy that Kamala won in our state of Virginia. Royals: Minutes 15:00 to 23:30 Since we last recorded, Charles and Camilla went on an anemic tour of Australia. Prince William went to South Africa for his Earthshot ceremony, tried to look statesman-like and failed. He got booed there. We remember how Camilla spread covid. Chandra mentions that Queen Elizabeth caught covid right after Charles and Camilla did. Prince Harry and Meghan purchased a villa in Portugal, where Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank live. It turned out that this was a very smart decision, since Trump has threatened to deport Harry. We talk about RFK Jr potentially removing flouride from the drinking water. Trump is credited with helping fund the vaccination rollout, but he can't take credit for it because his base is antivax. We remember when Trump talked about getting vaccinated and got booed. 181: Princess Kate and Prince William visited with a cancer patient, Prince Harry's whirlwind trip
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:45 Chandra and I both watched The Perfect Couple and loved it! Chandra also loved the fourth season of Emily in Paris. Royals: Minutes (5:45) to 24:15 After our last podcast Kate released a video with her family announcing that she was cancer free. It was self absorbed and the British media criticized her for it. King Charles is said to have disapproved too. It was reportedly Kate's idea, which makes a lot of sense. There were stories after that about how we weren't going to see Kate for a while and how her schedule wasn't going to get back to normal until the spring. We heard that she went to a ballet performance recently and that she's been having private meetings. This week Kate and William helped grant a 16-year-old cancer patient's wish to photograph an investiture ceremony, which was really nice. The Waleses were possibly motivated by Harry's recent press and the comments from Buckingham Palace about Kate's video. Last week Prince Harry was in New York for a series of appearances. He also was on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to tour his haunted house, which was fun. Cameron Walker of GB News tweeted that Harry is a veteran and that he was surprised that he got scared for that reason. Over the weekend Harry dipped in and out of London to attend the WellChild Awards. He didn't see his dad at all. When we recorded Harry was visiting Lesotho and South Africa. While Harry was getting so much positive press in New York, the British press tried to attack the Sussexes on two fronts. One was that Harry and Meghan must be having relationship problems because Meghan wasn't with him on these trips. We heard she was sick maybe she has covid and/or she just wanted to stay home with the kids. Then they dusted off that old chestnut about Meghan being mean and making her staffers cry by asking them to do their jobs and sending them email. It was unhinged and they got some US outlets to run it this time, including The Hollywood Reporter. They got one specific story about Meghan allegedly screaming at a florist in 2018, however the florist for her wedding went on the record to say it was great to work with her. The lack of specifics about what Meghan allegedly did is so telling. The Sussexes pushed back against these lies with an US Weekly cover story including quotes from people who work with them and went on the record. Of course Meghan and Harry are thoughtful, kind bosses. The reaction to the US story was unhinged. We wonder why The Hollywood Reporter parroted British talking points about Meghan circa 2018. William tried doing a bunch of stuff as Harry was getting press. He posed in front of some new London Air Ambulance Charity helicopters with David Beckham and he visited a company called Enso where he changed a tire. This week there was a story that Victoria Beckham doesn't like Meghan, but it seemed manufactured by the press. Prince William tried to poach Chef Jose Andres by putting him on the board of Earthshot, but Andres made it clear that he's still good friends with Harry. William still has that unattractive patchy beard because he wants Harry's style and life. They pulled off that trip like professionals and the optics were amazing. Colombia's Vice President Francia Marquez said that Harry and Meghan's visit really highlighted tourism. We heard that it only cost Colombia less than $60,000 to provide security for them. The Sussexes did a great job making photos available to agencies. Emily Andrews let it slip that Buckingham Palace had talking points about this trip. King Charles went to Southport last week to visit the families of children who were murdered in a knife attack. Charles has been staying in Scotland at his smaller home, Birkhall, while other members of the family stay at Balmoral. Kate was seen headed to church there on August 25th. There was a story in GB News that Zara and Mike Tindall were being asked to relieve Prince William and Princess Kate. There's an undercurrent that William and Kate are incapable of doing their jobs. Prince Harry made a secret visit to the UK last week to go to his uncle Robert Fellowes' funeral. Harry stayed at Althorp with the Earl Spencer. You could tell that the Windsors were super mad they didn't know about Harry's visit ahead of time. The Windsors are mad at how much the Spencers support Harry. There's been a narrative in the British press that Harry wants to come back to the UK to do royal work. It's clearly coming from William's side. This narrative has been pushed by William for years. Chandra thinks this storyline is an attempt to distract from what's going on with Kate. Toward the end of this month Prince Harry is going to be in New York solo for UN climate week. He's going to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative. Prince William will not be going to NY on behalf of Earthshot despite pathetically trying to copykeen Harry's trip last year. We wonder why William and Kate didn't do any events during the Sussexes' trip. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Minutes 21:00 to 31:30 This week both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt premiered their movies at the Venice Film Festival. Angelina is starring as opera star Maria Callas in the biopic Maria. She is getting Oscar buzz for that and it's coming out on Netflix. Braad is starring with George Clooney in the Apple streaming movie Wolfs. It was supposed to come out in theaters but that's not happening. Brad Pitt made his red carpet debut with Ines de Ramon. Brad and Angelina are covering People Magazine this week with the title "Brad and Angelina, their 8 year divorce, Can they Finally Move On," as if Brad's legal battle against Angelina is mutual. The whole narrative comes from Brad and it's the same garbage we've seen from him for years as he uses legal means to continue to try and punish Angelina for leaving him after he abused her and their children. Brad Pitt looks pulled and puffy recently. There's been a shift in public perception about Brad Pitt, especially since Shiloh changed her last name. People noticed that he skipped the London premiere and that he hasn't posed with Blake Lively or done press with her. They also noticed that Blake and the author Colleen Hoove unfollowed Justin on Instagram. The Hollywood Reporter said that Lively and Baldoni's feud started in post-production, when Blake commissioned a separate edit of the film. Chandra thinks that Justin's edit is likely the one that made it to theaters. Blake's husband Ryan Reynolds also rewrote a key scene. THR next reported that Blake screened her own edit of the film at a book event for Colleen Hoover in June. It looks like she tried to take creative control of the film. At first we got vague stories that Baldoni created a difficult work environment. The stories about why people hate him were suspicious to me. He also is said to have made Blake feel bad about her postpartum body. Baldoni has hired the same PR crisis management firm that Johnny D-pp and Brad Pitt use. TMZ then reported that Blake felt uncomfortable around Justin because he kissed her too long in a scene and because he asked her trainer how much she weighed since he had to pick her up and has a bad back. An older interview from 2016 recently came out where Blake and Parker Posey were meangirling a Norwegian interviewer, ignoring her and talking to each other instead. This is how Blake has always been. Blake has been promoting the movie like it's a frothy romance and Justin is being serious and measured in his promotion. His production company has partnered with an anti domestic violence foundation and he has been talking about ending the cycle of abuse. Royals: Minutes 18:45 to 25:15 None of the major royals went to the Olympics in Paris. Will and Kate just recorded a brief video congratulations with celebrities afterwards. They didn't congratulate any of the individual athletes. The Daily Mail recently reported that Kate is still undergoing preventative chemotherapy, that she's still recovering and that we probably won't see her until Remembrance Day. This is the type of story we get about Kate every six months. Earlier this month the Sussexes gave an interview to CBS Sunday Morning on behalf of their new initiative through Archewell called The Parents Network, to provide support and resources for parents to protect their children from online harm. They included parents who had lost children to online bullying and to drugs purchased online. It's a great cause. Meghan was asked about her past suicidal ideation, which she opened up about during her interview with Oprah. I play a segment from their CBS Sunday Morning interview. Harry and Meghan have been working on this cause for some time. A couple of weeks ago it was reported that the Sussexes have accepted an invitation to visit Colombia. We didn't realize it would happen so soon. Harry and Meghan are in Colombia now and the photos and videos coming out are incredible. They're so warm and natural with people. They have been meeting with the Vice President Francia Marquez, they went to a theater performance and participated in a panel about Internet safety. Marquez saw their Netflix series and that's why she wanted to meet Meghan! Politics: Minutes 25:15 to 33:30 While we were off, Kamala Harris chose Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Chandra thinks that Harris has a soft spot for dorky white men. We loved Harris and Walz's joint video interview. We hope she does more cooking videos. We want Harris to go on Hot Ones. Trump has been having a meltdown over Harris. He called her beautiful in that lispy interview with Elon Musk and may be conflicted about her for that reason. He hates being called weird. 178: Kamala Harris's run has massive support, Prince Harry interviewed in ITV documentary
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:00 I saw Twisters. It was more of a rental, but I liked Glen Powell in it. Chandra is looking forward to the Olympics, particularly the tennis. I've been watching 48 Hours episodes on YouTube. Chandra likes watching Snapped with her mom. Politics: Minutes 4:00 to 18:00 Last week when we talked Biden was still in the race although there were calls for him to step down. We also heard he has covid. Some of the top democratic brass were calling for Biden to step down, including Pelosi and Obama. Biden submitted his resignation on Sunday, July 21. In his announcement he endorsed Kamala Harris. This was not what the people asking for him to step down had planned for. They wanted an open convention and voting, which would have led to chaos. The Democratic party lined up behind Kamala and by late Monday night she had enough delegates to secure the party's nomination. She raised a record $100 million in just two days after Biden stepped down. She also got endorsements from so many people, including the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, all the major democratic governors and many congresspeople. As of our recording on Thursday, July 25th at 2pm Eastern time, Barack Obama had not yet endorsed Kamala Harris. (He has since endorsed her, as I mentioned in an update.) We like how the Clintons supported Biden and endorsed Harris quickly. There's a groundswell of support for Harris. We both gave money to her campaign. We appreciate how enthusiastically Biden endorsed Harris. The tagline "We're not going back" is so good. Trump is thinking of dumping Vance as his running mate. We doubt that they even vetted Vance. Vance has a long history of saying terrible sh-t. One of the big stories this week was when people brought back comments Vance made in 2021-22 about "childless cat ladies" who are running the Democratic party. Jennifer Aniston clapped back at that. We wonder when Taylor Swift will endorse Harris. Royals: Minutes 18:00 to 25:45 This week the big news is that the Invictus Games are going to be in Birmingham in 2027. At lot of us were shocked because it seems so unsafe for Harry and Meghan to go back to the UK. There are three years until that happens and it seems premature to speculate about it. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about the royals. We hope they have great security in Birmingham. Chandra hopes Meghan will never go back there but I think she'll go to support Harry. Prince Harry was interviewed as part of the ITV documentary, Tabloids on Trial, which aired this week. He talked about the press portraying his mother as paranoid when she was being hacked. His own brother called their mother paranoid in his 2021 statement on the Dyson investigation into Martin Bashir's interview with Diana. We talked about that in episode 130. 177: Prince Harry honored at the ESPYs, this week in politics
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7:00 I saw the movie Thelma twice in theaters. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Chandra was watching Wimbledon and her favorite, Daniil Medvedev, got to the semifinal. Chandra has also been watching YouTube reaction channels. Her favorite is MANIACITV. She also recommends I-9ine5ive. Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 20:00 The last time we talked Kate had made her return after six months at Trooping the Color. She's since been seen at Wimbledon at the men's final. She did not attend the women's final. We're hearing now that she'll be on vacation for several months for summer, which is what she's done for some time. There was just a story about how she no longer lives by the calendar. There's a real effort to lionize her for going to a tennis match. We would like to see Kate reach out to other cancer patients and charities. As we mentioned in episode 176, the Middletons are also back from their insolvency crisis. They popped back up the minute Kate came out again. They were at Wimbledon this year and were even in the royal box. Chandra remembers when Kate waved to her parents in the cheap seats at Wimbledon. The big story the past couple of weeks was about Prince Harry receiving the Pat Tillman award at the ESPYs. After the award was announced and before the ESPYS happened the British press tried to smear Harry. There were so many articles trashing Harry for receiving this award. ESPN commentator Pat McAfee was one of the naysayers. He is an idiot and an antivaxxer. The Daily Mail got Pat Tillman's mother on the record to say that Harry is divisive. ESPN and former Pat Tillman award recipients defended Harry after that. Harry was so gracious at the ESPYs and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Of course the tabloids tried to spin it negatively. Charles and Camilla opened Parliament this week, decked out in stolen jewels and finery. They were met with large protests and Charles was seen snapping at a page boy. Prince William went to the Euro final, where he looked like a hooligan. Politics: Minutes 20:00 to 30:30 Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet or some glass that ricocheted and hit the top of his ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last weekend. The shooter was a 20-year-old registered Republican man and he was killed at the scene. One man in the crowd was shot and killed and two others were hurt. The whole scene was bizarre because Trump stood up right afterwards and was showboating, lifting his arm to the crowd. Security experts have said that you're supposed to shield a high profile target. So many security failures happened. It's doubtful anyone will stand up to Trump and it's known that he tried to attack a secret service agent who stood up to him on January 6. Trump is doing open air events because he didn't pay venues in 2020. We remember when Trump left his rally goers stranded out in the cold. That was in Omaha, we remembered it wrong. Trump picked his Vice President, and it's Hillbilly Elegy author and freshman senator from Ohio J.D. Vance. Vance is married to an Indian-American lawyer and has three children with her. The MAGAs hate that and of course they're being racist about his family. Unfortunately Biden has covid. Biden did not do that well at the debate a couple weeks ago, but he's since done interviews and he's been excellent. Plus of course the press focused on Biden's performance instead of the fact that Trump tried to overthrow the government, that he lies constantly and that he's a convicted felon. There are calls for him to step down and it's ridiculous. There is not enough support for Kamala. Biden is also said to be making changes to the Supreme Court.
