EP:26 | The Legendary Mossy Head Turkey

On episode 26 of The GameKeeper Podcast, we tackle the topic of the legendary Mossy Head wild turkey. Are they a distinct species or is it just a unique genetic trait? To help us answer these questions we welcome our own David Hawley, VP of Business Development with Mossy Oak Properties, obsessed turkey hunter and founder of the Wild Turkey Report. We also talk with Tim Cosby, former Chief Law Enforcement officer with over 30 years’ experience with the Alabama Department of Conservation. Described as a smaller, darker colored turkey with large spurs that could possibly be the original strain of wild turkey. Both of our turkey obsessed guests give their opinions on the Mossy Heads and share stories of this legendary bird. We also discuss, David showing off his turkey calling skills on the David Letterman Show, possible proof of the existence of the southern long tail cats. Dudley answers a listeners question on planting bald cypress in an area that floods. Enjoy! EP:25 | Giant 241-Inch Deadhead Buck

On episode 25 of The Gamekeeper Podcast, Ohio hunter Jason Kline tells a great story of a truly giant whitetail he was chasing for almost three years. The deer had become a local legend since he was often visible feeding in a bean field along a main highway. After a close call with him in the woods, the deer suddenly disappeared in October and Jason and others feared the worst had probably happened. After the season ended, Jason discovered the fate of this giant whitetail. With a Boone and Crockett score of 241, this is one shed hunt Jason will never forget. We also discuss: making cane sugar syrup, canning deer meat, post season supplemental feeding whitetails, and much more. Enjoy! Listen wherever you get your podcast! EP:10 | The Mystery of the Southern Long Tail Cat: Sometimes Described as a Black Panther

On this episode of the GameKeeper Podcast, we pick apart two unverified southern long tail cat sightings in Alabama and dive into the age old disagreement: Do long tail cats really live in the southeast US and are the sightings legit? First we test two stories between Lannie and CJ Davis, who were together when their mystery cat appeared. We get both stories separately to see if anything sounds fishy. Later we interrogate Mossy Oak’s Rob Moore and his story of an Alabama long tail cat he encountered after killing a deer. Rob reluctantly breaks his silence and it’s a great story. Ask Dudley: What’s the best way to plant and care for fruit trees and what really happened to the Chestnut trees? Listen wherever you get your podcast!
