How to Keep Your Cool with Your Kids

Grace’s parents are in town which means Grace has been hosting all the things from her youngest’s very FIRST birthday to her oldest’s art show. It’s hard to believe Grace has a 1 year old! As with most parties, some things did not go exactly according to plan. A highlight of Sarah’s week was her and her family getting together with some friends that they don’t see all that often and it reminded Sarah that she wants to prioritize that friendship. It’s a big week for Book Club for 1 - Grace gives out her very first 5-star review on the pod! Some would say this one is life changing. Then Grace and Sarah share some mantras and strategies to help you keep your cool in those challenging moments with your kids. Then Sarah and Grace both bring copycat recipes to switch up your dinner rotation. Sarah shares copycat PF Changs chicken lettuce wraps. And Grace brings copycat Cafe Rio salad to the table. At Home Date Ideas

Grace spent some time in the water this past week and got to enjoy holding her scrumptious, sleeping baby boy at the pool, as well as go on a paddle board date with her husband. The only downside was the sunburn she got on her legs while paddle boarding. While Grace does regret not lathering up on the sunscreen, she most definitely does not regret getting some quality time with her husband. Sarah is also excited about the one-on-one time her children have gotten individually recently both her and her husband separately as well as together. This week’s Book Club for 1 novel is a mystery Grace read awhile back, but a listener was interested in Grace’s thoughts on it. Then Grace and Sarah share some at home date ideas and hopefully encourage you to plan an at home date in the next week or two. Sarah shares some paninis she made this past week with some leftover Greek garlic lemon chicken. And Grace brings chicken bacon wraps to the table. No matter how you’re doing motherhood, we’re rooting for you! Surviving Picky Eating & Children's Multivitamins

Grace had a solid week with her brother coming into town and her and her oldest harvesting their very first zucchini of the season. They immediately made zucchini muffins to share with their friends. Sarah may have been tempted more times than she wants to admit by some chocolate chip cookies she made - to the extent of making herself feel like a bad mom when she - may have - eaten a cookie promised to her oldest. But don’t worry, Nora was the real winner when she got a fresh baked cookie out of the oven. Then Grace had quite the scare this week - that almost caused her to call 911 - when her husband didn’t return from his backpacking trip when she was expecting. Thankfully, it was just a big miscommunication. This week’s Book Club for 1 novel is a 4/5 stars read according to Grace, which says a lot considering that’s basically the highest rating she ever gives. Then Grace and Sarah dive into some of the things they’ve learned to best support and encourage their children with eating and trying new foods, as well as some hacks to help your kids get the nutrients that they need. Then if you feel similarly to Grace and Sarah - that your children may not have the most well-balanced diet - be sure to tune in as Sarah and Grace share what they’ve learned about children's multivitamins and their experiences with a few different brands. Sarah shares a shredded BBQ chicken recipe that would be great for someone who likes to go a little more light on the BBQ sauce but also enjoys a good slider. And Grace shares the viral Tik Tok marry me chicken that is sure to impress when hosting. No matter how you’re doing motherhood, we’re rooting for you! The Hard Parts of Motherhood

Sarah hasn’t quite recovered from her family trip last week, but she is optimistic she may be more with it next week. In the midst of Sarah’s frazzlement and her children’s evening swim lessons she broke down and did something - grocery related - that she’s never done before. And Sarah gives a speech update on her oldest. Grace has been pleasantly surprised and appreciative of her husband taking up the habit of making their bed in the mornings and hopes it continues This week’s Book Club for 1 novel may be more of a book not to read than a book to read. Then Grace and Sarah get real about some of the things they miss from before motherhood as well as some things that are just hard about being moms. Sarah shares a chicken lasagna that is helping her hit her spinach goals. And Grace brings egg roll in a bowl to the table. No matter how you’re doing motherhood, we’re rooting for you! Make Childhood Whimsy & Magical

Sarah is back from visiting her in-laws at the lake and she’s excited to share all about it! Grace had a quintessential summer-y week with her family consisting of hikes, snow cones, and tie dye. And the only nays are things Sarah can do the next time she’s at the lake. Grace steps away from her go-to genre of contemporary romance for this week’s moving, thought-provoking Book Club for 1 novel. Then Grace and Sarah share some ways to add some whimsy and magic to simple everyday moments with your kids to break up the routine. Extracurricular Activities for Our Kids

Grace came equipped with a few nays this week - one of which being a nay that kind of turned into a yay as her friends rallied around her. To Sarah’s delight, imaginative play has been in full force at her house this week. And her nay might just be the nay of all moms out there - the fact that she does not have a house cleaner. Grace is feeling a bit of an itch to participate in a week long murder mystery based upon this week’s Book Club for 1 novel. And Grace and Sarah share their experiences with putting their oldest kids in extracurricular activities - from why they even wanted to put their children in activities to begin with to what activities their kids have had exposure to so far. They also share some of the fears they have like how to make sure to expose their kids to things they will love but - at the same time - not over scheduling. Birth Order

Grace made an exciting new purchase this week - a meat slicer - in an attempt to feed her family less processed meats. But don’t worry, Sarah has questions! Then Sarah gets a little vulnerable about her daughter’s speech progression. Whether you are a mom navigating a child’s potential diagnosis or a mom whose heart hurts when seeing your child work so hard at something they struggle with - you’re not alone. And, unfortunately, it is now Grace’s turn for some car troubles. If we didn’t know better, one might actually think Sarah may have read this week’s novel for Book Club for 1. Grace and Sarah are both personally intrigued by birth order - whether that be thinking about their own kids or themselves and their siblings. Sarah and Grace bring some unauthentic - but delicious - recipes this week. With chicken pad thai - peanuts optional - from Sarah. Make Father's Day Special

Grace and Sarah kick off this week with some poll results. Then, a definite highlight of Grace’s week was the alphabet date her husband planned with all things letter ‘G’. Other than hitting up the water park again this week, Sarah’s yay was just the solid weekend she had with her family. And learn why Sarah will no longer be able to use the phrase “when pigs fly” with her family. Unfortunately, Sarah’s beloved car is facing more issues this week. But she is optimistic, after Colin fixes it, that it may be a future yay. Grace brings a book that is being turned into a major motion picture for Book Club for 1 this week. And Grace and Sarah talk all things Father’s Day. They share some of the things they’re planning to do for their husbands for Father’s Day. Infertility Awareness Month ft. Emily Moon

Cavity filling day finally arrived for Grace’s oldest! And Grace wasn’t quite as excited about it as him - he's now stoked to have metal in his mouth like his friends. Grace got to visit her siblings, parents, and celebrate her brother’s high school graduation in South Carolina this past week with the baby in tow. Red eye flights are likely no longer in her future and, PSA, double check with your airline but you can no longer check travel cribs for free. Sarah fears the end of her car that has been through so many stages of life with her - from college to being a young, single working girly to getting married and having kids - may be close to the end of the road. And, to no surprise, Sarah’s yay this week was the grand opening of the water park near her home. In honor of Infertility Awareness Month, Grace and Sarah feel so lucky to have their friend, Emily Moon, share her infertility journey and what all really went in to her experience. Emily also shares some ways to support friends who are struggling with infertility. As a fellow reader, Emily brings Book Club for 1 this week and Grace is excited to get to be the one guessing the book title for a change. This week Grace and Sarah kickoff the podcast discussing the recent trend of Type C moms but - let the record show - Grace and Sarah were talking about different ‘types’ of moms before this trend was even a thing. Grace’s yay and nay is one and the same this week with the release of season 2 of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. And an unexpected topic of conversation this week - with the breaking of Sarah’s vacuum - corded vs. cordless vacuum cleaners. Grace shares a multi-award winning book this week in Book Club for 1 and strongly recommends it for adults and children in 5th grade and up. Summer Bucket List

The final laundry detergent update has hit the pod this week! Dishwasher detergents just may be up next. With Grace’s previous week being nothing short of a disaster, she had a bit of a redemption week with her perfectly executed Mother’s Day plans to a midweek hike, time spent with friends, and ordering some Chatbooks for her family. Sarah is excited about her and husband attempting to be the ‘cool’ aunt and uncle this fall as their nephew moves from Virginia to Utah for college. And Grace’s oldest has been inundating her with questions which can, at times, feel like a nay. However, Grace reminds herself of her family motto which includes valuing life long learning. Grace shares a fun read about a corporate girlie - that gives a bit of The Office vibes - this week in Book Club for 1. Summer is basically upon us as Sarah and Grace share some of the things they have planned for their families this summer including camping in the backyard, lemonade stands, hot air balloon festival, and lots of time in the water. Easter Baskets and Traditions

Sarah and Grace dive straight into sharing the results of their birthday-related polls! And the results have Sarah rethinking a couple things. The biggest takeaway here is if you don’t feel like doing party favors, likely the vast majority of your party guests won’t care. Sarah and Grace got together this past week for some girl time and it was exactly what Sarah’s heart needed. And Grace’s yay and nay is one in the same - cleaning her carpets herself…like with a rug doctor. The ladies are also excited to share some yays and nays submitted by their community. Grace brings a new segment to the podcast - Book Club for 1! Grace describes the plots of two of her most recent reads - one that she loved - one that she didn’t. And then Sarah - attempts - to guess the title of the book. If nothing else, hopefully you get at least one book to add to your ‘must read’ list. Spring Bucket List

Of course the highlight from Sarah’s past week was her daughter’s birthday party! And you may not have known it, but there’s a viral TIkTok-er in our midst! Grace is investing the time and money - so you don’t have to - to find a natural laundry detergent that smells…toxic aka just like Tide. And no, she does not want her laundry smelling like essential oils! Sarah is looking for some solidarity this week as her youngest’s ear infection would have gone undiagnosed if it wasn’t for her 2 year well visit exam. Along the same vein, Grace shares the cost estimate she got to fill her oldest’s cavities. And it’s causing them both to feel a little bit skeptical of dentists in general. Spring is in the air which means spring bucket lists are in full swing! For Sarah this includes what activities she has planned to do with her kids over spring break. Grace’s spring plans include a little overnight hotel stay in addition to a multitude of outdoor activities. Hopefully this episode leaves you feeling inspired with some activities to do with your own kids this spring. Then switch up your dinner rotation with Italian grinder sliders that Sarah served at the birthday party this past weekend. Grace shares a little bit more of a time intensive recipe than her norm - sticky sesame chicken - but it’s worth it! A frequent topic of conversation in Sarah’s life - Costco - is mentioned and she’s looking for any takers on starting a salad swap near her. It’s even gotten her in the habit of meditating in the morning to start her day off right! Sarah and her girls had the best time at the cutest St. Patrick’s Day party they were invited to. And now Sarah's feeling inspired to host her own holiday kid activity in the future. Sarah’s self-proclaimed hobby - planning her children’s birthday parties - is the topic of discussion this week! Sarah is full of birthday party theme inspo for little ones turning 1, 2, or 3. And hear the party themes Sarah and Grace have done for their own kids. From food to balloons to bounce houses, Sarah and Grace dive into some of their birthday party staples. And should birthday party presents be opened during the party or at a later time? Grace and Sarah share their thoughts and want to hear yours too! Grace has a - maybe - controversial take on party favors that Sarah doesn’t really disagree with. It’s, of course, all poll-worthy! Then switch up your dinner rotation with Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta - a crockpot recipe Sarah served at her oldest’s most recent birthday party. Skip the Chick-Fil-A drive thru this week and make grilled chicken nuggets at home - Grace recommends dipping in buffalo sauce. No matter how you’re doing motherhood, we’re rooting for you!
