State of the advice market 10 years after RDR

On this episode of the FTAdviser In Focus podcast we take a look at the state of the adviser market 10 years after the Retail Distribution Review. RDR saw many advisers leave the industry, and while the industry as a whole has become markedly more professional since, there are still not enough people entering to replace those about to leave. Discussing the threat of a capacity crunch are Rachael Fennessey, founder of Aspire Executive Search, Edward Grant, director of technical connection at St. James’s Place, and Amy Austin, news editor of FTAdviser. Sadiq Khan on sustainable cities, finance – and COP

London mayor Sadiq Khan wants more power and financing for cities so they can deal with and find solutions to climate change. Cities, after all, are responsible for over two thirds of emissions and local administrations, says Khan, are seen as the “doers”, while national governments are the “delayers”. He thinks that mayors should be part of the UN climate conference negotiations. In fact, COP27, which wrapped up in Sharm el-Sheikh this month, will be the last without cities at the table. Does he have a point? Hear what Khan told Sustainable Views and what our correspondent Philippa Nuttall makes of his green leadership for London as she talks to Silvia Pavoni, your host. Sustainable Views: How to speak ‘ESG’

Silvia and Alison Taylor of NYU Stern School of Business look into the language of sustainability and find it still has a pretty loose grammar and highly convoluted syntax. Most native speakers do not even agree on a common interpretation of environmental, social and governance factors. The good news is: more of us are trying to learn this language. And Alison shares a few tips on how she teaches it too. In the show, Alison mentions a piece she’s written for Sustainable Views. How do we make sense of the mortgage market?

How can we make sense of the mortgage market right now? With a 0.9 percentage point decrease in house prices month on month, according to the latest Nationwide Price index, it might have seemed house prices are becoming more affordable. Or the veritable curate’s egg? This FTAdviser In Focus podcast, seeks to understand why the mortgage market is seeing such weekly see-saws in sentiment and pricing. Joining this podcasts are guests Jane King, independent mortgage adviser at Ash-Ridge; Lewis Shaw, independent mortgage adviser at Riverside Mortgages; and Rob Sinclair, chief executive of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries.
