Death of the Pastor’s Wife: The Mica Miller Case | OPEN TABS
When Netflix released Death of the Pastor’s Wife, the three-part documentary introduced millions of viewers to the disturbing story of Mica Miller. In April 2024, 30-year-old Mica was found dead from a gunshot wound at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina. Investigators determined that she died by suicide. But the investigation surrounding Mica did not end there. Before her death, Mica had told police she feared for her life. She reported unwanted contact and discovered a tracking device on her car. She was also attempting to leave her marriage to prominent South Carolina pastor John-Paul “JP” Miller. Federal prosecutors now allege that JP engaged in a years-long campaign of cyberstalking that included unwanted communications, surveillance, financial interference, tracking devices, tire damage and the nonconsensual posting of an intimate image. JP has pleaded not guilty and has never been charged with causing Mica’s death. Madison recaps the Netflix documentary, examines the evidence surrounding Mica’s death, separates fact from internet speculation, breaks down the federal case against JP Miller and looks at the growing push to recognize coercive control under South Carolina law. Because the biggest unanswered question in this case may not be who physically killed Mica Miller. It may be what happened to her before she died. Asha Degree: The DNA Breakthrough That Changed Everything
Nine-year-old Asha Degree disappeared from her Shelby, North Carolina home during the early morning hours of February 14, 2000. That same morning, multiple drivers reported seeing a young girl walking alone along Highway 18 in the middle of a storm. One witness said she ran into the woods when he stopped to check on her. Asha was never seen again. More than two decades later, advances in forensic testing have dramatically changed the investigation. DNA and genetic genealogy connected evidence in the case to Russell Bradley Underhill and relatives of the Dedmon family. Investigators searched multiple Dedmon properties in 2024, recovered a vehicle they said resembled one previously sought in the case, and stated in court filings that they believe Asha was killed and her body concealed. Madison breaks down Asha’s final known hours, the buried bookbag and unexplained items found inside it, the DNA evidence, the Dedmon investigation, an alleged admission reported to investigators, newly revealed family communications, and what law enforcement says now. Lindsay Clancy Mistrial: Why the Jury Couldn't Decide | OPEN TABS
Since recording this episode, the judge has declared a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision. Lindsay Clancy was neither convicted nor acquitted, and prosecutors must now decide whether to try the case again. After everything you’ve just heard, perhaps the most striking outcome is that the twelve people who heard all of the evidence could not agree on the answer either. There is no mystery about who killed five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan Clancy. Their mother, Lindsay Clancy, acknowledged that she caused their deaths inside the family’s Massachusetts home on January 24, 2023. The question at the center of Lindsay’s murder trial was whether she was criminally responsible when she did it. Prosecutors argued that Lindsay planned the killings, deliberately created an opportunity to be alone with the children and understood that her actions were wrong. Her defense argued that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis, had lost touch with reality and lacked the capacity to control her behavior. Kaylah, her baby brother Kristian Justice, and their mother, Alicia Fox, had seemingly disappeared from Detroit. Alicia was eventually found murdered, and Kristian’s father, Erin Justice, would later plead guilty to killing her. But the children were never found. There were people who saw Kaylah and Kristian during the narrow window surrounding their mother’s murder. There was an accomplice who said the children were still alive when he last saw them. And there was a man eventually sent to prison for Alicia’s death who never provided the answer her family desperately wanted: what happened to her children? Tiffany Booth: Where Is Eduardo Clemente?
In September 2020, 35-year-old Tiffany Booth was living in Las Vegas when she suddenly stopped communicating with the family and friends she spoke to almost every day. At first, it appeared Tiffany was traveling with her boyfriend, Eduardo Clemente — but as the days passed, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance became increasingly difficult to explain. Tiffany’s car was eventually discovered abandoned hundreds of miles from Las Vegas. Evidence inside her condo suggested something violent had happened there, and investigators began retracing the couple’s movements across Nevada and Idaho. On October 19, 2020, Tiffany’s body was discovered near Indian Springs, Nevada. Her death was ruled a homicide. Police soon named Eduardo Clemente a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest — but Clemente had disappeared. Years later, authorities are still searching for him. Dana MacKay and Mary Huffman: Murder at Mini Graceland
A double murder inside a Las Vegas home known as “Mini Graceland” left behind a scene that didn’t make sense and one detail that has never been explained. In October 1993, Elvis tribute artist Dana MacKay and former Mrs. Nevada Mary Huffman were found shot to death in their entryway. At first, investigators believed it may have been a burglary gone wrong. But nothing of value was taken. Cash and jewelry were left behind. The only thing missing was a manila folder Dana was known to carry everywhere — containing business records, personal documents, and information tied to an ongoing legal dispute. As the investigation unfolded, theories ranged from robbery to something more deliberate. Destiny McClain: A Drive-By Shooting, No Leads, No Arrest
On July 18, 2021, 23-year-old Destiny McClain was standing outside a food truck near Karamba Nightclub in Phoenix, Arizona when gunfire erupted into a crowd.
