On March 3, 1985, 54-year-old Catherine Jenkins, a grandmother, a maid, the woman in her small Tennessee town who'd drive you to your doctor's appointment - was left in charge of the Seabon Motel in Kingston Springs for one afternoon. She was found hours later in room 21, robbed, raped, and stabbed to death, with a $20 bill tucked under the band of her watch. Anthony Darrell Hines had checked into room 9 that morning. Days earlier, he'd told his girlfriend's mother why he carried a hunting knife under his shirt: "I never go anywhere naked. I always have my blade." By that afternoon he was on the interstate in Catherine's Volvo with dried blood on his shirt and a story that changed every time he told it.
