Romantic obsession consumes you when you lack purpose in your life.

When life feels empty, that one text becomes exciting. When your life is full, you cannot possibly be obsessed with why the other person used a full stop instead of an exclamation mark in a text.

But is that really the case?

What if romantic obsession and devotion spring from the exact same seed?

This was the theme of the unfiltered 1:1 session with Swati, a talented musician who has her whole life figured out, but when it comes to relationships—as she candidly puts it in the recording—she becomes “like a helpless, crazy woman who feels like a child who wants to be coddled and held.”

This behavior has been a source of a lot of pain and shame in her life, something she tried to change with therapy and push away.

Yet, nothing worked.

So, what if we look at obsession through a different lens?

What if we stop judging this behavior as a flaw and try to understand the hidden meaning behind it all?

🎙️Read the full article where I dive deeper into the essence of obsession and outline ways we can channel that energy without rejecting it.

Notable Quotes

On Love and Safety

Michalis: “The main condition for love to flower is safety. If you don’t feel safe in your body to express yourself in the moment, you can’t truly connect with anyone.”

On Intellectualizing Trauma vs. True Presence

Swati: “I kept telling myself that once I read 5,000 books, only then would I be worthy. But it was just driving me mad. I finally said, ‘F**k all the books—I just want simple truth.’”

Michalis: “You’ve read all the books and analyzed every detail of your past. But that knowledge just keeps you trapped in your head. You don’t need more theories; you need to stop analyzing and actually be present.”

On Mechanical Intellect vs. Authenticity

Michalis: “Mechanical intelligence is cheap. If you aren’t open to holding opposing views or letting go of a belief when presented with new evidence, that isn’t intelligence—it’s rigidity.

“True spirituality is simply authenticity: being the exact same centered person in every interaction.”

Michalis: “Deception starts the moment you force yourself to do something that doesn’t flow. When you say ‘I must’ or ‘I should’ just to keep someone, you are walking in deception and stepping away from your truth.”

On Relationship Addiction & The Void

Michalis: “Others use alcohol or drugs to numb their pain; you used relationships. It was your chemical hit to escape the silence. The next time you feel lonely and want to jump into romance, realize you’re reaching for heroin.”

Swati: “Relationships became my drug. I was running away from the void inside me, and my body was literally slapping me with physical illness to get me out of misaligned relationships.”

On Transmuting Obsession into Devotion (Bhakti)

Michalis: “Your capacity to pour yourself out and surrender isn’t a defect—it’s the exact same seed that makes you a gifted artist. You don’t need to destroy your capacity for devotion; you just need an infinite container for it.”

Swati: “I need to find fullness in being alone—not lonely, but centered. I’m detoxing from men and making my music an offering to myself and to God.”
