The Greek Village That Won't Die

In 2015, residents of Sfendili on the Greek island of Crete were forced to vacate their homes as their village was submerged. They believed their sacrifice was a lifeline for the rest of the island. Today, Sfendili has resurfaced, prompting Andy to visit and connect with former residents to understand why Greece aims to drown this village. Hi, I'm Andy, and I believe greater understanding leads to less division. In 2022, I launched Faultline to highlight stories from overlooked people and places, aiming to shift our global perspective. My filmmaking began on Snapchat in 2016, capturing stories often ignored by mainstream media. These stories encouraged me to focus the camera on others, leading to a Shorty Award nomination in 2018. This path led me to create 'Origins' for Red Bull, a documentary series exploring the roots of extreme sports through communities that shaped them. My reporting journey has taken me to varied places, from the Arctic to the Middle East, across Eastern Europe, South Asia, the US, and forgotten communities in the UK. Everywhere, a common thread of storytelling emerges, revealing that real conversations discover common ground and new knowledge. Faultline serves as a platform for stories from unexpected places. I travel to where stories exist, listen closely, and share my findings, advocating for curiosity over fear and changing our worldview. Join this journey. My filmmaking journey began on Snapchat in 2016, revealing untold stories from around the globe, recognized with a Shorty Award nomination in 2018. This path led to creating 'Origins' for Red Bull, exploring the roots of extreme sports and more, reshaping global culture. Through my work, I've traveled to diverse regions, finding that everyone has stories to share. Conversations bridge differences, but algorithmic bubbles have replaced curiosity with fear. Faultline aims to counter this by sharing stories from unexpected places, fostering curiosity over fear.
