The city of Nashville, the global home to country music, is anything but “boring.” That was until Elon Musk’s The Boring Company began to dig tunnels underneath it. Cuba’s Greatest Weapon Isn’t Missiles, It’s Impressionable American Minds

A few months ago, when President Donald Trump began floating the idea of taking over Cuba using military force, many people were understandably surprised. Since then, however, the State Department has put out reports and statements making the case for why Cuba is such a threat to the United States, calling the regime “an espionage superpower.” A recent report says the Cuban regime has waged a 70-year-long war against the United States—not with kinetic weapons of course, but instead by using the dark arts of sabotage and subversion, including by propping up anti-U.S. socialists in central and south America and sending over spies who then spent decades hidden inside America with top security clearances. And then, there’s what the State Department calls Cuba’s greatest weapon: the ability to control people in our cities and towns through ideological alignment. It’s the old Soviet tactic of, “If you hate American imperialism, work for Cuba behind the scenes.” Apparently, it’s been effective—so let’s go through it together.

Big Gold Moves: French Central Bank Moves 129 Tons of Gold out of US; Dutch Central Bank Moves 86 Tons

There are some big moves happening in the gold market. Last week, the Central Bank of the Netherlands confirmed that they moved 86 tons of gold out of North America—moving it to London. Earlier this year France did something similar, removing all of their gold reserves from the U.S.—in favor of keeping them at home. Germany did the same as well a few years ago. Their central bank moved the 111 tons of gold that they had in New York, and they brought it home to be kept in Germany. All this is atop record-breaking gold buying from the central banks across the world: including China, Russia, India, Poland, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and a long tail of central banks in smaller countries buying up the precious metal. And so, in order to get an idea of what’s happening in the market, I got a chance to speak with Machi Block from American Hartford Gold to get a peek at the market from someone who has a finger on the pulse of the industry. Anthropic Slapped With Lawsuit Over Alleged Theft of Over 10,000 Songs for AI Training

Anthropic recently settled a $1.5-billion civil suit over the illegal downloading of millions of books used to train its large language model. It was the single largest copyright infringement settlement in U.S. history. This past weekend, over 30 music companies filed a class-action lawsuit alleging Anthropic illegally downloaded song lyrics from the same torrent sites and intentionally removed copyright information. How this case shakes out could very well dictate whether the live music industry is still a thing a generation from now. Let's go through the details together. Fat From Cadavers Now Being Used for Cosmetic Fillers

How badly do you want that perfect beach body? Some are willing to get liposuction and have someone shuffle their own fat around. AI Creates 16 Never-Before-Seen Real-World Viruses

Scientists in the U.S. recently announced that for the very first time, they were able to use AI to create viruses never before seen in nature. Don’t worry, though: these new viruses were designed to target specific strains of E.coli bacteria that have become resistant to natural antibacterials. This development marks a major milestone in the field of synthetic biology, and it opens the door to potential rapid advancements in human healthcare. Maybe these AIs can develop never-before-seen cures to horrible diseases. However, on the flip side, I think after living through the early 2020s ... we can all imagine how this can go horribly wrong. So today, let’s go through the details of these newly created AI real-world viruses together.

Let's go through the details of the attack, as well as some of the possible culprits.

A first-of-its-kind study reveals that one out of eight apps marketed to U.S. military service members (and their families) contain foreign code—some from China and Russia—that could be remotely updated to leak sensitive data to adversaries. This alarming finding arrives just as reports confirm foreign adversaries are already using cell phone location data to target American troops in the Middle East. Let’s go through it all together.

Internal Docs Discovered in Lawsuit Exposed Anthropic’s Mass Book Shredding Project

It turns out that Anthropic—the giant AI company behind the Claude chatbot—has been secretly destroying millions of books in the process of feeding them into the AI system. Slicing off the spines. Cutting the pages. Scanning them. And then discarding the remains. All to avoid paying copyright fees to the creators. The initiative was called Project Panama—and it was supposed to be a secret. We only learned about it through luck, basically—it was made public only because of the discovery process in an unrelated lawsuit. And the kicker is that it’s 100 percent legal. Furthermore, ironically, it’s only legal, because Anthropic destroys the books in the process of scanning them.

US Praises Venezuela for Initiating Withdrawal From ICC

Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez has formally begun withdrawing the country from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The United States, which never ratified the Rome Statute and has long viewed the ICC as a threat to its own sovereignty, publicly praised the move and framed it as support for an American-led effort to dismantle what the Department of State calls a “corrupt and worthless” court. Let’s go through the details.

A woman in Texas was shocked when she opened her front door and found the local police standing there, ready to arrest her over a Facebook post. Federal Judge Issues Ruling on Trump IRS Lawsuit

A federal judge on July 13 found that President Donald Trump improperly used a $10 billion lawsuit he filed against the IRS to extract personal benefits from the government he oversees, preventing the terms of a settlement agreement from taking legal effect. Miami-based ‌U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams excoriated Trump's personal lawyers and attorneys in his administration, concluding their interests were not opposed to each other as is legally required for civil lawsuits. Williams referred a Trump lawyer in the case and senior Justice Department officials who signed off on the settlement to state bar authorities to determine whether their actions violated legal ethics rules. Let’s go through the details of why she took these steps.
