    Dead Idea Valhalla 4: The Tyranny of Literacy

    Looks innocent but know that only misery lives here. Merry Christmas! I arranged a Christmas version of the song! This show was weekly! I don't want to sound like I'm tooting my own horn or to belabor the point but man, the time this thing would take, I tells ya. It's almost as if someone making it wouldn't have time for healthy relationships! This marks the beginning of the "around a half hour" length but I remember promoting it as double length. In my experience, podcasts end up about double what you anticipate. Luckily, length bloat went no further than that. The misery here is real and the stories are real. The 2nd bit doesn't quite come together as well as I thought it would but Dr. Sbaitso remains a pleasure. Oh, and this is the first appearance of the whiny outro. I realize it sucks eventually, trust me!

    Dead Idea Valhalla 3: Gay Little Milano Cookie

    Will they discover the secret of the scepter? Here's the third episode, ya mugs! Controversial! This is when I started sort of putting episodes together with themes in mind. It's also the first time I recorded a song specifically for the episode. Think about how labor intensive that is! The back half of this remains one of my favorite things I've ever done and it's the first time I've done an audio play style segment for the show. I had this idea years ago but never knew what to do with it. Now it's hear, in your ears!

    FUCKING FERAL. Episode 2 is where things take off, I think. A lot of things that make the show what it is first show up here. Repurposing editing mistakes, lists, improvised conversations and my pitch perfect Macy Gray impersonation. A coworker once got ahold of the podcast and said, "What the fuck do you have against Mariah Carey?" True story. I've got nothing against Macy Gray. I just happen to know that she has a lot of inhuman traits. The 2nd half is already dated and I wish I had never done it!

    Never fear! The Cosmic Fool is here! This is it! The beginning! The first episode of Dead Idea Valhalla! Me, being who I am, created the beginning of a new show by focusing on the past. The beginning features a lengthy treatise on the end of the Dinocast as well as an unreleased song from my band, The Metroids. Afterwards, we really get into the meat of the show with a bit of railing against this whole Keep Portland Weird nonsense. Trivia: this bit started as a draft for an open mic comedy thing before I decided it'd be better as a podcast segment.

My name is Gary Butterfield and you probably know me as one half of Watch Out For Fireballs! In addition to WOFF! I do a whole shit ton of other stuff, including a wealth of past tense podcastery. That stuff lives at my site but because synergy is a business solution you can be proud of, the flagship show, Dead Idea Valhalla, lives here now! Just what is Dead Idea Valhalla? Well, this episode is designed to tell you just that! Don't be so god damned impatient. Back to the desk in the back, Sherman. Just kidding. It's a comedy/therapy/musical variety show about my life and my slow decent into madness. It features rants, sketches, recurring characters and guest spots. In fact, this first episode might feature an old friend from this very network. But I'm not telling! Give it a listen!
