Episode 16: Frankenstein, Volume 3, Final Chapter
Final Chapter: Walton takes up the story. Their ship is trapped in the ice and in danger of being crushed. The crew demand that Walton return to England if the ice clears and they survivwe. Frankenstein is exhausted but initially urges them to continue their adventure but then becomes weak and dies. The monster appears and declares his guilt and misery. Episode 15: Frankenstein, Volume 3, Chapters 6 & 7
Chapter 6: Victor awaits an encounter with the monster. Elizabeth is murdered. The monster mocks him and flees. Chaptrer 7: Victor is determined to revenge himself an sets of to pursue the monster. He travels huge distances and is helped in the pursuit by the goodwill of local people but also by the monster who leaves mocking messages for him. Episode 14: Frankenstein, Volume 3, Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Frankenstein returns to Geneva with his father. Elizabeth writes to ask whether his misery is because he is in love with someone else. He reassures her that that is not the cause of his misery. He decides to marry her quickly even though the monster has threatened to be there on his wedding night. Episode 13: Frankenstein, Volume 3, Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Frankenstein is shown the corpse of the dead man and sees it is henry Clerval who has been strangled just as his brother William had been. He is imprisoned on suspicion of murder. Eventually, as he recovers from the shock, his father comes to visit. He can prove that he was on Orkney at the time Henry was murdered and not in Ireland and is therefore freed. Episode 12: Frankenstein, Volume 3, Chapters 2 & 3
Chapter 2: Frankenstein visits London, Oxford and other cities, with Henry Clerval, and they travel up to Scotland. Once there, Frankenstein decides that he must travel on alone and start to create the female he promised the monster. Chapter 3: On Orkney he finds a small village where he can hire a cottage. He starts to create the female but one evening he sees the monster peering in through his window, having followed him from Europe. In a state of agitation Frankenstein destroys the half made femaile. He refuses to create it and the monster threatens him and leaves. Frankenstein takes a boat to drop the parts of the female in the sea but is blown away and lands eventually in Ireland. Episode 10: Frankenstein, Voume 2, Chapters 6 & 7
Chapter 6: The monster keys himself up to present himself to the cottagers he has been watching, hoping that they will befriend him. When he eventually does so, they reject him and he becomes enraged. He burns their cottage down and goes to roam in the forest. Chapter 7: Looking for his creator, he travels to Geneva. Before entering the town he comes across a child and tries to befriend him. The child is horrified and the monster, again enraged, kills him. He is entranced by the miniature of a beautiful woman hanging around the child's neck and takes it. When he sees a girl he decides to cause her trouble too. He conspires to slip the jewel from the boys neck into her pocket. Finally, at the end of theis account, he tells Frankenstein that he must make him a woman to be his partner. Chapter 5: A beautiful woman, Safie, arrives at the cottage and the cottagers are overjoyed. The monster is able to learn to understand speech by listening to thieir conversation. Chapter 6: The monster hears the tale of love and betrayal of Felx and his family by the Turkish merchant, father of Safie, whom they help to escape. Volume 2, Chapter 1: Justine has been executed. The family go to Chamonix in the hope that the trip will lift their spirits. Victor is miserable but a little comforted. Volume 2, Chpater 2: Victor goes for a walk in the mountains alone and encounters his monster. He threatens to kill the monster but the monster points out that Victor owes him care as his creator. He says that he will go away and live peacefully if Victor will do as he asks but if not he will harm all Victor's friends and all of humanity. Chapter 7: Justine is tried. She asserts her innocence but is found guilty because a miniature of her mother that the boy had been wearing had been found in her pocket and she had no explanation for how it got there. Chapter 6: News of William's murder summons him home to Geneva. Before meeting his family and in a thunder storm, he visits the spot where William died. In the dark he sees a huge figure. He recognisdes the monster he created The monster flees by climbing swifftly up an overhanging cliff but Victor is convinced that the monster murdered William.. When he sees his family he hears that Justine has been arrested for the murder. Neither he nor Elizabeth believe in Justine's guilt but she is to be tried that very day. Episode 4: In which he brngs his creature to life but finds him so repulsive that he flees in shock and distress. In bed that night he is visited by the cteature. The next morning the creature is gone. When pacing the streets in a state fo agitation, Fankenstein happens to meet his old friend Henry who has come to visit him. The creature has disappeared but the shock has made Frankenstein ill. Henry looks after him and he slowly recovers but he tells noone what he has done.
