Apples, Murder, and Life on Earth
Was it all the apples, eating a salad, or something else? Stacy starts the episode off with a *toot* once again proving she has no issues with TMI unfortunately for Eric and listeners. Eric and “the gf” went kayaking a second time beating their previous record although Eric did share, he suffered from numb bum after which led to yet another brilliant innovation/sponsor idea. Stacy still continues to work on a tagline (no one asked for) for Duck Duck Go and currently in first is Eric’s suggestion of Just Duckit which leads to a hilariously awkward story about his 8yo nephew’s “Just Do Me” sweatshirt. The two pay homage to recently deceased Dolly Parton and Tim Curry, which Stacy feels all but confirms the world is headed for hell. For their CBS this week Stacy and Eric have an unplanned switched-at-birth moment as Stacy watches another Coen brother’s movie and Eric watches a Pixar movie for children. Not shocking is that after Stacy finally watched Fargo (her dad’s fav movie), she thought it was awesome, if weird. Even less shocking is Eric finding something to nitpick about after watching Wall-E. If Stacy can take the Coen brothers movie as face value, why can’t Eric take Wall-E being propelled at light speed through space while holding onto essentially a rocket and NOT melting at face value?! Also, is Wall-E the love child of Charlie Chaplin and Johnny 5 from Short Circuit? Eric is also still watching James Gandalfini go to therapy on the Sopranos and like therapy, it’s really growing on him. As for the ideal shower length, depends on who you ask and whether you’re at The Blue Lagoon in Iceland (but the general recommendation is 8 minutes). Failure to Fly, Dudeism, and the Need for More High-Hat
Considering Eric is “the voice,” of the show, he sure did struggle to talk in the beginning of the episode. If he could get his ish together maybe SeaTac would hire him to make announcements like Rick Rizz, the “voice of Mariner’s radio.” In other news out of Tacoma, the podcast pals face off (kind of) in the Little League World Series as the Soundview team from Tacoma face off against the team from Boerne, TX. Eric shares stories about kayaking, his parking validation anxieties, and rethinking the gift of a Kenmore flight to celebrate his dad’s birthday – he tries to look on the bright side which is him with no teeth post plane crash. Stacy is less anxious if only because she’s on the road again, this time back to Texas for the foreseeable future. For their CBS, Stacy studies the ways of Dudeism by watching The Big Lebowski. Are Dudeism and Taoism the same? Is the Dude just Pooh with pants on? Also, it was funny and quirky like all Coen brother movies. Which coincidentally Eric also watched one of, he saw Miller’s Crossing; a glacially paced movie about small-town Irish gangsters that needed more high-hat. He also watched The Night of the Hunter; released in 1955, Eric was very impressed with the acting, cinematography and storyline which kept him in suspense. They don’t make ’m like they used to! As for their great debate, there was none as the topic was hangover cures. Ideally, don’t drink. Realistically, drink water before, during and after a night of drinking too much (plus other suggestions). Dancing on the Ceiling, Oh Yeah!
It was a quiet week for podcast pals Stacy and Eric. Stacy entertained guests at Veranda Beach and even with smoke and ash in the air (happy birthday Smokey the Bear) mahjong happens. Speaking of addictions, Stacy discusses her 5-day addiction to the phone game Meowduku (the Tacoma cat boat story!?), her love for Tootsie Pops (Eric crunched them like the owl), and breaking down to buy more mahjong tiles (it was inevitable). Eric reminisces about watching professional kite flyers (synchronized?!) and seeing Comedy Bang Bang (very hawt). In discussing their CBS, Eric introduces Stacy and listeners to Duck Duck Go (a search engine) which needs a verb…duckit, goosed, gone? Stacy went old school watching Royal Wedding with her girlhood crush Fred Astaire while Eric went “just in theaters” with The Odyssey and Spiderman: Brand New Day. With at least three of the stars overlapping, it was a banner movie-going experience bringing back an old-school epic popcorn blockbuster and the grounded lore of Spiderman, even if the AI assistant was annoying. As for their top topic of the week, Stacy took a more hypothetical approach in her certainty that The Kool Aid Man would win, while Eric was practical and declared a knockout for The Michelin Man – and it’s ok that Eric is often wrong in these debates. Peninsulas, Mutton Busting, and Squeakquels
After a break of a couple of weeks, podcast pals Stacy and Eric reunite and pick up where they left off – debating the utensil MVP. During his time off, Eric went to the Ibiza of Washington, also known as Point Roberts; an international hotspot (not) where even Gertie dipped a paw in the water! He and “the girlfriend” also went to Long Beach, which was long on fun, but short on pillows. Does DAMTT need to create an app for rating beds and pillows? While Eric stayed on the west coast, Stacy traveled back to her roots on the east coast going from Pennsylvania to Rhode Island and back again with a side quest to San Antonio. Now back in Veranda Beach, Stacy is seeing firsthand the effects of the wildfire’s smoke and destruction. For Stacy’s CBS she went to her first rodeo – literally! The best part was a toss-up between little kids in their boots and hats and older men in their boots and hats giving off Sam Elliot vibes. Eric’s CBS was all about sequels, specifically Poltergeist 2 (they’re back!) and Jaws 2 (son of Jaws?). Both were just okay and left both Eric and Stacy wondering why Hollywood always goes for the money grab versus the quality storytelling…oh yeah, of course. As for the Hot Topic of the episode, whether to use a top sheet, it’s more of a therapy and problem-solving session for Stacy. Missing Teeth, Jaws, and Sporks
The podcast pals are together in studio again! Stacy is in town for a “bloodletting,” and because she’s en route to a wedding in CT. The blood draw was for a health update, and it only took the vampire/phlebotomist a few tries to get the four vials. Meanwhile, Eric’s Waterpik is so effective it dissolved the tooth that was put in as a temp. Now Eric has two missing teeth and food sensitivity which lends itself to finding a dentist as a show sponsor. Eric’s planning a trip to Point Roberts, WA, a peninsula you access by going into, and out of, Canada. But the real question is will Gertie kayak and do ducks beef? For their CBS segment, Stacy talks about sharing the movie, Father of Bride (the remake) with one of her daughters and their friend which takes her on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Eric does the heavy lifting of this episode after watching Jaws, Duel, and starting The Sopranos. The first two were directed by a young Steven Speilberg and the last is now considered iconic HBO television which was influenced by The Godfather cinema universe and has a great soundtrack as evidenced by the inclusion of music by Tindersticks. Eric deems all three of his CBSs worth the watch. As for which utensil is the MVP, Eric likes to spoon while Stacy likes to fork. Fireworks, Water Works, and Character Quirks
Stacy is bringing even more Veranda Beach vibes to the pod than usual since she’s recording from ON her veranda this week. With kids, their plus ones, and plus ones visiting for the July 4th holiday weekend, it’s hard to eek out quiet space. The good part is kids visiting, great weather and fun adventures to wineries and mini golf; the flipside is that even adult children want to be fed three meals EVERY day! Aside from that, VB is an awesome spot to celebrate the holiday in a lowkey, family fun, and classic way. Eric and “The GF” will celebrate after a nice waterfront meal with a primo spot to watch the fireworks over Tacoma. Meanwhile, Gertie will hide out at home. Eric has good news in the form of his car’s database working again and bad news in the form of a leak that after multiple trips to the water meter, Home Depot, and Lowe’s is not yet fixed. He’s hoping there’s only fireworks over the holiday, no waterworks because any glue he has at home has dried up (Eric definitely did not point fingers at the culprit). If any listeners out there have a solution for effectively closing glue (and food in general), let us know! Although Stacy’s daughter suggested she watch White Chicks for her CBS, Stacy watched the 1970 movie M*A*S*H instead. She watched and loved the TV show so decided to check out the movie. She enjoyed it and appreciated the coping with humor, satirical commentary it must have represented during the time of the Vietnam war. Eric watched Whatever Happened to Baby Jane after hearing Stacy’s take and was also riveted by the acting and actors that chewed up the screen and story. He and The GF also enjoyed Widow’s Bay, an Apple original that’s both spooky and funny. As for bar soap versus body wash, Stacy and Eric agree, everyone needs a little bit of soap, but perhaps it should be sold in bulk like oatmeal? Or bring back soap-on-a-rope! Deadly Women: Ginger Vitis, Mahjong Moms, and “The Bride”
Stacy is back in her happy place at Veranda Beach enjoying sunburn, social time, and solo watch parties tackling her Cultural Blind Spots. Eric rocked out with his band Battersea at The Valley in Tacoma last week; looking cool with his blue tint shades (is it less distracting or does he just enjoy the vibe?). Apparently, his missing tooth saga did not deter his singing although his Sonicare toothbrush DID deter his sleeping – the ghost of cavities past?! Should Stacy get a Waterpik flosser? Should she cover the bathroom (and herself) in plastic when using it? Eric has a simple solution. Also, is there a worse sound than a chirping low battery fire alarm? Summer has started to open its’ front door in Tacoma and is enjoying lazy days on Zero Gravity chairs not afraid of pitching over at all. As for her CBS, Stacy dove headfirst into the world of mahjong. Having only ever played with her mother-in-law, Stacy finds herself knee-deep in the rules, drama, and accessories that are American Mahjong. She also finally watched Napolean Dynamite and found it utterly delightful and would also like Pedro for President. For his CBS, Eric tried (and failed) to watch The General with Buster Keaton. While Buster may be a legendary silent film star known for his physical comedy, the movie goes South quickly. To cleanse the palate, Eric watched, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. Classic Tarantino with great music and lots of violence; plan for snacks and bathroom breaks given its’ four plus hour run time. Stacy comes out swinging on their top topic this week boldly declaring her disdain for breakfast. Eric walks her back from the ledge pointing out it’s not the meal, it’s the foods she dislikes. Meanwhile, Eric tucks into a full Irish Breakfast enjoying every morsel of the blood sausage. Boy Apartments, Sunset Boulevard, and Hornblower
Stacy has been on the road a lot of late; first off to Cali to see her twenty-something son before going home to San Antonio for a quick trip. The visit with Charlie involved multiple trips to IKEA and a lot of resisting the urge to clean and organize. Two highlights were Stacy celebrating her 34th wedding anniversary with Pete and putting a foot in the ocean. Meanwhile Eric continues to have fun filling the gap in his mouth and is looking forward to pulling a Cindy Brady for his upcoming Battersea show at The Valley (June 20th) in Tacoma. Stacy’s CBS (cultural blind spot) was watching Sunset Boulevard which made her favorite skit from The Carol Burnett Show, make SO MUCH more sense. It’s a classic for a reason and the topic of our relationship between ego and mental health is still relevant today. Eric explored two sides of a coin, first watching Master and Commander of the Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe, followed by Kneecap, a movie about the Irish hip hop trio – yes, you read that correctly. He was a fan of both movies although hip hop as a genre still alludes him. What does the Good Housekeeping say about when to floss? What does Stacy’s hubby do? Will they stay married as a result? The True Crime of Birds, Smuggled Cola Bottle Candy and Brews
Stacy has descended a new rabbit hole that makes this episode even more exciting than usual; however, it’s a Cultural Blindspot so she’s forced to wait to share even though it’s become her LIFE. Speaking of holes, Eric continues to recover from his dental surgery with his tooth hole intact. He and “the Girlfriend” did something perhaps no one has ever done, they crashed into a bird enroute home from Veranda Beach – a traumatizing experience all around. On the same ride he realized his car’s data center wasn’t working thus begins “The early Morning Plight of the Chevy Blazer.” Other than Mexican food and avoiding grocery shopping Stacy’s highlight in banana Laffy Taffy (which leads to a conversation about the excellent candy selection at Dollarama in Canada. For their CBS (cultural blindspots), not to be confused with IBS, Stacy finally gets to discuss the cultural phenomenon that is the true crime documentary. From MacKenzie Shirilla to Elizabeth Smart with Moriah Wilson for good measure, Stacy is hooked! To redeem herself she watches What Ever Happened to Baby Jane which essentially had a fictional true crime plot with the iconic real-life rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. It was a wild ride and like no other day at the beach! Perhaps inspired by his trip to Canada, Eric watched Strange Brew, a precursor to movies like Wayne’s World. To balance out the shenanigans he also watched GlenGarry Glen Ross which featured an A-list cast including our old pals Al Pacino and Jack Lemmon. He gave both movies two thumbs sideways. As for the topic of the week, it was trivia time, a surprisingly fun time to learn they know nothing! Lamb, Lemmon and Condiments We Love
Did Eric and Stacy just become best friends?!? Eric, "The Girlfriend," and Gertie visit Stacy's cottage at the Veranda Beach Resort (the show's sponsor and Stacy's happy place) for Memorial Day weekend. A visit to Canada included A&W and their "teen" burger, poutine, and soda with real sugar naturally. Eric also had his periodontal post op visit and for the next four months is ready to suck Jello shots through his teeth. They also discuss PlayDoh and Irish Stew which apparently is deemed Irish if made from lamb - a smell that triggers Gertie. Speaking of smells, coffee smells better than it tastes unless you're Eric. For their Cultural Blindspots, Stacy and Eric were together and watched two movies; Some Like it Hot and Marty Supreme. The first is a weirdly edgy romantic comedy from 1959 about two musicians that go under cover as female musicians to avoid the mob. One poses as a millionaire, and one is pursued by a millionaire. Marty Supreme is a surprise from the jump and keeps the same pace and energy as an elite table tennis match. It features some interesting casting and a surprising body count! Stacy and Eric liked both movies which surprised them both. As for their weekly topic, Stacy "Ketchup" Heller and Eric "Mustard" Reidar go toe-to-toe and the winner might be gravy. Snitches Get Stiches and Reality Bitches
Eric’s tooth extraction revealed a sinus infection and now he’s cosplaying as a prospector. To add insult to injury he pulled out his stiches out while practicing for Battersea’s upcoming show on June 20th at The Valley in Tacoma, WA. Like the good boyfriend he is, Eric waited too late to get “The Girlfriend” a birthday cake so perhaps we’ll have to celebrate when they come to Veranda Beach for the weekend. Stacy’s week includes a continuation of her dress quest and finds out she’s a yeasty girl (on her scalp) so as predicted by commercials from the 70’s dandruff is now a thing. What’s next quicksand? As for their Cultural Blindspots, Stacy goes back to the year The Gap opened (1969) and watched Midnight Cowboy. It wasn’t what she was expecting; however, she agrees it’s worthy of the AFI100 list. Eric finally watched Saturday Night Fever and found the disco music and dancing were the least offensive part for him, ultimately, he preferred Warriors. Hoping for a better outcome, he watched A Night at The Opera, the Marx Brothers classic. Sadly, he found it silly except for Harpo’s stellar harp playing. This week’s topic on the impact of reality TV was something Stacy and Eric could agree upon. While not judgement for consuming it, it does feel like there’s now generations of reality ick. Tone Loc, Billy Wilder, and Vices
Today’s show starts from the top addressing the topic of vices with Eric confessing to his weekly 12oz can of cider, such depraved morality. Whereas Stacy started drinking cocktails slowly but joined select social drinking especially once at her lake house. Stacy visited Austin this week while Eric once watched MTV’s Austin Stories. Stacy also waited almost two hours for Franklin’s Barbeque while Eric is still waiting for Arby’s to have the meats! One thing they both have in common is their wariness about roller coasters. While at Six Flags in Fiesta, Texas Stacy rode the Ferris wheel which is less impressive than Eric riding the Ferris wheel at the iconic Coney Island. As for Cultural Blindspots, Stacy continued her theme of movies involving apartments by watching, The Apartment. She was struck by the empathy and modernity of the movie. Eric watched two movies on both sides of the spectrum: Heat and Sky King. The first is a classic cops and robbers movie with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, while the second is a documentary about an airline ground agent who stole a plane from SeaTac and took the ride of his life. As for their topic of the week, unsurprisingly Stacy has far more foibles than Eric, he’s just socially awkward sometimes. Kitchen Aids, Johnny Clay, and May/December Relationships
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere and to celebrate Stacy has a gin and tonic and learns the correct way to say sláinte (slawn-che) which means health. In other news worth toasting Veranda Beach is offering listeners of DAMTT 10 percent of their stay (during the summer of 2026)! Stacy rants about the expense of weddings and how wedding gift registries have changed since she was a bride-to-be and Eric has his and her vacuums that really suck which may be the greatest thing that ever happened to him. Far better than part two of his upcoming gum graft surgery and tooth implant or BTL (Brazilian tooth lift). Missing teeth aren’t just for hillbillies plus; they’re an opportunity to suck Jello between your teeth – don’t knock it ‘til you try it. Also try making a straw wrapper worm. There’s a conversational side quest about Costco memberships, landlines and Welcome Back Kotter before Stacy and Eric regroup to discuss their Cultural Blindspots: Harold and Maude for Stacy and Witness and The Killing for Eric. Veranda Beach, Badges, and Tall Boys
Eric, TG (the girlfriend) and Gertie are finally (probably) going to visit Veranda Beach! It’s especially exciting since Veranda Beach is our new show sponsor; it’s easy to promote something you already love! What Stacy DOESN’T love is eye doctors that suggest blepharoplasty and dress shopping. Eric had been “dating” himself by going alone to concerts, including seeing The Wedding Present and Art Brut. When it comes to how they spend their free time, Stacy and Eric are an odd couple which also happens to be Stacy’s Cultural Blindspot this week – The Odd Couple movie based on a Neil Simon play. While Stacy yucked it up, Eric found the Treasure of The Sierra Madre which is another movie on the AFI’s list of 100 American films to see. Both movies were recommended to watch even if the score of the latter movie was meh. Eric also recommends DTF Saint Lewis which is not what you might expect. As for the weekly debate, there’s no debate, however base it may seem, women prefer tall men. You could argue all others get the short stick! Bootys, Baby, and Date Night Ideas
Eric heard a song from the elusive “Booty Jamz” compilation while at the grocery store which reminds them of the revelation about what B stands for at HEB grocery stores. He also learned that DJ Casper and Mr. C are the same person – Willie Perry Jr. And speaking of dance, shout out to the Hungarian politician who danced like no one was dancing, it’s tough doing your own thing when dancing unless it’s a 15 second TikTok dance! Stacy attended Cornyation for San Antonio’s annual Fiesta which was almost as spicy as the bumper stickers Eric saw recently. For their Cultural Blindspots segment, Stacy shares that she saw Bringing Up Baby and Room. The first was an old classic screwball romcom while the second was a more recent true crime-like thriller, both were good. Weird Songs Sung Sundaes
Stacy starts the show more subdued than usual having just been to therapy before recording where she explored being “too much.” Don’t worry, her self-awareness quickly goes out the window. Now that her house in Washington has closed, she and her husband continue to explore their new environs like HEB (B for Butt!?). Talk of the two-step devolves into a conversation about quirky songs like the Casper Slide, Scatman, Cotton-Eyed Joe and Crazy Frog. Eric is brack at making tea brack, but cherries are too expensive in this economy! As for Cultural Blindspots, Stacy finished watching Song Sung Blue which was in fact very blue. She also saw Project Hail Mary which was NOT rocky at all! Eric watched Is This Thing On? which is a newer movie directed by Bradley Cooper. For a movie based on being a standup comic, it wasn’t very funny. He also started rewatching Malcolm in the Middle since the reboot is out soon and found it to be very funny. As for the perfect sundae, Eric argues it’s in a waffle cone with no toppings and Stacy loves the Almond Joy Sundae from COHO, an old Issaquah fave. They were split on banana splits. Dial M for Mother Mary
The highest of all (Catholic) Holy days happened (Easter) and now Stacy has hymns stuck in her head (you can really rock out to; Here I Am Lord). The conversation did yield new information about Eric; he did the readings at church which gave him the confidence to hone his talent for talk. In addition to hymns and ham, Stacy met “the boyfriend” (her daughter's new bf) and Eric went to the movies. The former went very well, and the latter included unfinished popcorn and heavy breathing which could be solved if seating assignments were more like the college roommate pairing process. After a quick convo about how Neveda makes us sick, it was time Cultural Blindspots. Stacy went high, Dial M for Murder and low, Real Housewives of Rhode Island and Below Deck while Eric went to the movies for his first EVER Ryan Gosling movie. He was a big fan of Project Hail Mary and shared his usual insightful commentary. If you’re looking for something else to watch on the small screen, consider St. Denis Medical; it’s got Office-like vibes and humor. As for who Stacy and Eric are more like, their mother or father, it’s a mixed bag with mixed feelings. Are y’all aliens? And the twist
Stacy shares the tale of getting her Texas license which involves the straight-out-of-central-casting Dept. of Public Safety in the town of Frederickburg. While Stacy’s husband was a wreck anticipating the process, Stacy eased in like a drawl and the process went down like sweet tea! What’s the difference between a Farmer’s Market and a Maker’s Market? See if you agree. Speaking of makers, Eric ventured to the new Maker’s Lab at the Tacoma Public Library to create a masterpiece of modern engineering; the process is ongoing and involves a free Hoover vacuum. Continuing to tick off items off their Cultural Blindspot Stacy watched Modern Times (Eric’s recommendation from last time) and Pulp Fiction. Eric watched something from the century, in fact from the most recent Oscar’s race, Begonia with Emma Stone. Once again opinions and thumbs up or down were shared. On the topic of Biggest Lie” it was determined that Stacy is the biggest liar (among other things) while Eric was once a fraud.
