Peter Hildebrandt: Bassist and Serial Entrepreneur
Peter is a great example of someone who proves you can balance music and another career. He is a serial entrepreneur who founded and sold companies doing such diverse things as weather forecasting for windsurfers, 3D molecular modeling, traffic signal control, photo capture software, and book publishing. Since he loves the business of making products, he also happily consulted with many companies such as HP, Intel, Roche Pharmaceuticals, Nike, RainBird, Microsoft, and others. And after selling one of his businesses, he ran research and development for a division of Steelcase, the world’s largest office furniture company, for 13 years. But he’s also a musician –playing the string bass (and later the cello) throughout that career and improving his craft. Today he’s a professional bassist in the Atlanta metro area. Finally, fifteen years ago, Peter was able to merge his love for business and music. He started Aria Lights which manufactures professional music stand lights. Today they are considered the gold-standard in symphony orchestras, on Broadway, in pits, and by freelancers throughout North America. Rick Sowash: Giving it All Away
Rick Sowash lives by his wits. He has earned most of his living by weaving the history and folklore of his native Ohio into books which he himself writes, publishes and markets. In earlier years, he supported his family in a variety of ways: as an elected public official, an arts administrator, a radio broadcaster, an innkeeper, a church choir director, a housepainter and a guard at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Presently, Rick teaches music, French and literature at the University of Cincinnati’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute where he has attained the Stephen Appel Award for excellence and creativity in teaching. Rick’s true calling is the composition of classical music. He publishes his own sheet music and has produced 18 CD recordings of his own compositions. A storyteller/speaker all along and an increasingly recognized composer, Rick has made thousands of appearances before audiences large and small. Rick’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra has been recorded on the Marquis Classics label by David Drosinos and the St. Petersburg Symphony under Vladimir Lande. His cello concerto was premiered in Carnegie Hall in 2006. Clare Longendyke: Running Her Own Solo Career
Pianist Clare Longendyke is a soloist, chamber musician, and fearless advocate for new music who brings daring repertoire and thoughtful storytelling to the concert stage. Pauline Frechette: At the Edge of Everything
Pauline Frechette is a contemporary composer. Her melodies and harmonies take you to unexpected places, emotionally driven yet only 3 or 4 minutes long. Her compositions are gems that spark the 21st century need for private inspiration, sensual beauty or glowing romanticisim. A Frechette miniature fills the need for warm flow, deeper meaning or emotional lift to a higher plane. Pauline composes mostly from the piano. Xenia Pestova Bennett: Befriending Performance Anxiety
I have such respect for musicians who use their own journeys and learnings to help others! Described as “a powerhouse of contemporary keyboard repertoire” (Tempo), pianist and composer Xenia Pestova Bennett has earned an international reputation as a leading proponent of uncompromising music. Her work spans a wide range of sound worlds, styles and genres from classical to contemporary art music, free improvisation, experimental electronica and avant-pop. Since receiving the unanimous First Prize at the Xavier Montsalvatge International Piano Competition in Girona, Spain and prizes at the Messiaen International Piano Competition in Paris and the KeriKeri Piano Competition of New Zealand, Xenia has performed in over 20 countries - at international festivals, in concert halls, tropical rainforests, caves, ponds and countless weird and wonderful venues and spaces. She explores classical music boundaries with electronics, toy pianos, synthesizers and the magical and mysterious Magnetic Resonator Piano. As a composer, she is represented by the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland. In addition to her performance career, Xenia is in demand as a wellbeing instructor, coach and lecturer for organisations and educational institutions around the world.
