Silent Running is an interesting film. To me, it loses some potency by trying to chase too many plots in the same movie. Is it about environmentalism and conservation? Is it about isolation and dependence on robots to deal with ennui and loneliness? Somehow it tries to do too much. BUT: each theme is even more relevant now than in 1972. Episode 130: The Hudsucker Proxy
I recently watched the Coen brothers' 1994 film, The Hudsucker Proxy. Part spoof of Capra films and old-fashioned screwball comedies and part neon flashing sign for what's happening in the modern era, it's a movie worth watching. ⚠️ Spoilers lie ahead. ➡️ Mussburger's "pump and buy" scheme feels eerily similar to what is happening across the US economy right now. Are we being primed for Agenda 2030? ➡️ The mass media and Corporate America work in tandem to create a narrative for the public. ➡️ The mailroom scenes are as good as Office Space vis-à-vis the repetitive, overly important, soul-crushing experience of a job in the corporate grind. There's a bit of scratchiness with the audio in places. I am not sure why. I think my shirt collar may have rubbed against the microphone when it was clipped on.
