The Psychological Cost of Gun Violence on Black Men | Grief, Trauma & Survival
What happens when losing Black men to gun violence becomes so common that we begin to normalize it? In this episode of Chopped by T Podcast, we go beyond the headlines and statistics to examine the psychological impact gun violence leaves on the people who survive it. I sit down with James “Cov” Covington, who reflects on the loss of his friend Gavin Thompson, their relationship, grief, and what it feels like to continue living after someone close to you is taken by violence. We also have a deeper conversation about Black men and grief, becoming desensitized to violence, questioning God, relationships, survival, and whether the men carrying these experiences are ever truly given the space to process them. The gunshot may last a second. The psychological impact can last a lifetime. This isn't only a conversation about the Black men we've lost. It's about what all that loss is doing to the Black men who are still here.
