What The Bears Learned From Bengals Joint Practice | Does O-Line Have A Big Problem?

The Chicago Bears finally tested themselves against another NFL roster—and Caleb Williams made sure the Cincinnati Bengals noticed. On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize breaks down the biggest winners, concerns and takeaways from Chicago’s joint practice against Cincinnati as the Bears continue preparing for the 2026 NFL season. The headline? Caleb Williams showed exactly why expectations are so high. Facing his first opposing defense since the playoffs, Williams reportedly impressed Cincinnati media during an explosive practice that featured touchdowns to Rome Odunze, Kaden Davis and Colston Loveland. One unofficial chart had Caleb completing 16 of 26 passes, including a stretch of 10 consecutive completions in 11-on-11 work. It wasn’t flawless. Williams threw interceptions and Chicago’s protection deteriorated late. But even Bengals defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who intercepted Williams during practice, came away calling him a “special quarterback.” Then there’s Colston Loveland. 🤯 The Bears tight end delivered another spectacular red-zone touchdown against Cincinnati, securing a perfectly placed Williams pass with tight coverage draped all over him. After torching Cincinnati for 118 yards and two touchdowns last season, Loveland apparently still enjoys seeing Bengals uniforms. And defensively? Jaylon Johnson reminded everybody exactly who he is. 😤 Johnson reportedly held Ja’Marr Chase without a catch during team reps when matched against him, including a pass breakup that ultimately resulted in a Devin Bush interception. That’s elite-on-elite competition. But the practice also revealed Chicago’s biggest concern of the day: 🧱 The offensive line struggled badly against Cincinnati’s revamped defensive front. Interior pressure consistently bothered Williams, while Dexter Lawrence caused problems throughout practice. The Bears need their protection to become more consistent—and the continued uncertainty at left tackle isn’t helping chemistry up front. Ben Johnson acknowledged that veteran guard Joe Thuney would benefit from knowing who will ultimately line up next to him, emphasizing how important continuity is to getting all five linemen operating as one unit. Haize breaks down: 🔥 Caleb Williams impressing against Cincinnati 🤯 Another huge Caleb-to-Loveland connection 😤 Jaylon Johnson vs. Ja’Marr Chase 🛡️ Dillon Thieneman intercepting Joe Burrow 🚀 Kaden Davis continuing his push for the 53 🎯 Kalif Raymond emerging as a dependable target 🧱 Why the Bears offensive line struggled ⚠️ The problems Dexter Lawrence created inside 👀 Whether Braxton Jones is pulling ahead at left tackle 🤔 Why Chicago needs to settle its starting five soon 📞 Plus your Chicago Bears Central voicemails and fan reactions The joint practice wasn’t perfect. That’s exactly why it was valuable. Chicago saw some of its highest-upside players shine while also getting a clear look at what still needs to be fixed before Week 1. 🎙️ Chicago Bears Central Hosted by Haize Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentral Get at us: Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.com Twitter:@ChiBearsCentral Phone: ‪(773) 242-9336‬ Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Bears vs Bengals Joint Practice Could CHANGE EVERYTHING 👀 Caleb, LT Battle & Secondary Get HUGE Test

The Chicago Bears are about to get one of their biggest tests of training camp when they hit the field with the Cincinnati Bengals for joint practice. On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize breaks down the biggest things Bears fans need to watch as Ben Johnson’s team finally gets the opportunity to measure itself against somebody other than its own teammates. Johnson has made it clear that he places significant value on joint practices as an evaluation tool, and with competition still raging throughout the roster, the next two weeks could go a long way toward determining who earns a spot on the final 53-man roster. And the matchups are LOADED. 🛡️ Chicago’s secondary vs. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins With Coby Bryant expected to miss four to six months, Kyler Gordon still on PUP and Tyrique Stevenson sidelined, younger defensive backs like Malik Muhammad, Josh Blackwell and others are getting major opportunities. Cincinnati’s receiving duo gives them a true litmus test. 🎯 Caleb Williams and the Bears offense vs. an improved Bengals defense Chicago’s offense has reportedly looked much smoother in Year 2 under Ben Johnson, but Cincinnati brings a front featuring Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen and Boye Mafe, creating a major challenge for the offensive line and Caleb Williams. 💥 Can the Bears pass rush prove it has actually improved? Dennis Allen says the pass rush has taken steps forward—but he also acknowledges there’s still plenty of work left. Going against Joe Burrow and Cincinnati gives the Bears a much better measuring stick than beating up on their own offense in camp. 🧱 The left tackle Royal Rumble continues Braxton Jones has returned, Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills Jr. have received first-team opportunities, and Ozzy Trapilo is now back practicing on his own timeline. Ben Johnson says the competition remains “wide open.” And speaking of Ozzy… The Bears feel good about where Trapilo is physically after his shocking return from a ruptured patellar tendon just seven months after the injury. The next challenge is rebuilding his confidence and comfort through padded practices. There’s also still no meaningful update on Kyler Gordon, with Johnson simply saying Gordon continues working through the team’s rehab plan. Plus, Kaden Davis keeps forcing his way into the conversation. After putting up four catches for 88 yards in Chicago’s preseason opener, offensive coordinator Press Taylor praised Davis not only for his receiving production but also for his blocking and willingness to do the little things required to earn more opportunities. Haize breaks down: 🔥 The biggest Bears-Bengals joint-practice matchups 🎯 What Caleb Williams needs to show 🛡️ Malik Muhammad and the depleted secondary vs. Chase/Higgins 💥 Whether Chicago’s pass rush is actually improved 🧱 The never-ending left tackle battle 👀 Whether Caleb and the starters play Saturday 🏥 Ozzy Trapilo’s continued recovery 😬 The latest on Kyler Gordon 🚀 Why Kaden Davis keeps earning more opportunities 📈 Which roster-bubble players can separate themselves This isn’t just another practice. This could be one of Chicago’s most important evaluation days of the entire preseason. 🎙️ Chicago Bears Central Hosted by Haize Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentral Get at us: Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.com Twitter:@ChiBearsCentral Phone: ‪(773) 242-9336‬ Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Bears Found ANOTHER Undrafted Gem?! Jahdae Walker RISES & Caleb Williams Pro Bowl Buzz

The Chicago Bears may have found ANOTHER under-the-radar defensive lineman—and several young players are making serious noise as training camp reaches its final stretch. On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize breaks down the biggest Bears risers from Day 14, the latest official update on Kyle Monangai, some intriguing Pro Bowl breakout candidates, and whether undrafted rookie defensive tackle Jayden Loving could become Chicago’s latest overlooked find. The seemingly endless left-tackle competition took another turn when Theo Benedet received significant opportunities and impressed while working with the first-team offense. Braxton Jones remains firmly involved, but Benedet continues proving he offers legitimate value along the offensive line. Then there’s Jahdae Walker. Walker continues taking full advantage of the opportunities created in Chicago’s receiver room. On Day 14, he made an impact on special teams before hauling in what was described as the catch of the day—a deep touchdown from Caleb Williams during 11-on-11 work. His chemistry with Williams continues to grow at exactly the right time. Haize also dives into J.P. Richardson, who kept his momentum rolling by finishing practice with a touchdown from Case Keenum after getting a key block from Kaden Davis. There’s also a clearer update on Kyle Monangai. After suffering a hyperextended right knee, Ben Johnson officially described the second-year running back as “week-to-week.” Monangai rushed for 783 yards at 4.6 yards per carry with five touchdowns during his rookie season, making his health important to Chicago’s plans alongside D’Andre Swift. Then we get into three Bears players identified in the episode notes as potential Pro Bowl breakout candidates: 🔥 Luther Burden III — His production surged dramatically over the final eight games of 2025, and DJ Moore’s departure creates a much clearer path toward a larger target share. 🚀 Caleb Williams — Year 2 produced improvement across numerous passing categories, and his growing command of Ben Johnson’s offense creates the foundation for another potential leap in Year 3. 🛡️ Devin Bush — Coming off a career year in Cleveland with 125 tackles, three interceptions and eight passes defended, Bush’s coverage ability could fit nicely with the responsibilities Dennis Allen gives his linebackers. And finally… Did Ryan Poles and the Bears find another undrafted defensive-line contributor? Jayden Loving has quietly begun making noise. The Wake Forest product has been winning individual drills, gave second-round center Logan Jones serious problems Tuesday and flashed in limited preseason action with a pressure that contributed to an interception and a batted pass. The problem? Chicago’s defensive-tackle room is crowded. With Gervon Dexter and Grady Jarrett established, Loving is fighting with players such as Jordan van den Berg, Neville Gallimore and James Lynch for limited roster space. The notes suggest Loving may still face an uphill battle for the initial 53, but another strong two weeks could force Chicago into a difficult decision. 🎙️ Chicago Bears Central Hosted by Haize Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentral Get at us: Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.com Twitter:@ChiBearsCentral Phone: ‪(773) 242-9336‬ Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
