Our Canned Tuna Taste Test with Amanda Freitag

Today on Chewed Up, Michael Symon and Clinton Kelly welcome chef Amanda Freitag for a full-on canned tuna episode built around a blind taste test and a tuna salad sandwich that skips the mayo entirely.

They put four supermarket tunas head to head, comparing flavor, texture, and salt, and discover that the olive oil packed jars run away with it, including a budget pick that holds its own against tuna three times the price. Then Michael turns the winner into a tuna salad sandwich with romesco, Castelvetrano olives, scallions, flat leaf parsley, lemon zest, sherry vinegar, sliced tomato, and basil on grilled bread. It is briny, bright, and exactly the kind of pantry upgrade that proves canned fish can taste like dinner out.
