If you made your First Communion at age seven or eight, then you have St. Pius X to thank!
Born into poverty in Italy, St. Pius X became Pope and used his position to do something extraordinary for children: lowering the age for First Communion to around seven years old. Moved by the story of a dying four-year-old named Little Nellie who longed for Jesus in the Eucharist, Pius opened the doors of Holy Communion to children everywhere in 1910.
"If you have made your First Communion, you have St. Pius X to thank."
