PERFECT BLEND: How The No. 1 Team in America Built its Roster with High School Recruiting and Portal
Every time Miami wins big, somebody says it: they bought this team in the portal. The starting lineup says otherwise. 15 of Miami's 22 regular starters signed with the Canes straight out of high school. In this video we break down how the No. 1 team in the country blends portal kids with homegrown kids: • Why both lines of scrimmage were built from high school signees, and why Miami added only two offensive linemen from the portal • How the portal was used to fill exact holes: Darian Mensah at QB, Cooper Barkate at WR, Damon Wilson II off the edge, and a rebuilt secondary • Why Miami's portal class shrank from 19 transfers to 13 while still ranking in the top five nationally • The freshman pipeline: Ben Congdon starting on the line, JJ Dunnigan's All-American first half, and the 2025 class already starting a year later • The honest part: where the blend is still thin, from the quarterback room to Jackson Cantwell's timeline • What this model means for the 2027 recruiting class Next up: Miami at North Carolina, then Notre Dame.
