SHOULD the Cardinals Do It? Bernie Weighs in
The Cardinals score 36.5% more runs on the road than they do at Busch Stadium, and Bernie Miklasz says that is not a hot streak, a small sample, or bad luck. It is the ballpark, and the gap is now the widest it has been since Busch opened in 2006. In this episode of The Bernie Show, Bernie walks through the home and road splits that have taken over his mentions on X, answers the most common objections one by one, and shares what a Statcast contact told him about why fly balls go to die in the power alleys at Busch Stadium. Then he takes on the biggest question facing Cardinals ownership: should they move the fences in? 👑 Presented by DraftKings Sports. St. Louis Sports Fans Need to Hear This About Stan Kroenke...
Stan Kroenke just paid a record $4 billion for the Los Angeles Angels, and within hours St. Louis reacted the way it always does. Bernie Miklasz says that reaction is the most valuable thing Kroenke owns in this city, and he is not going to pretend otherwise. On this edition of The Bernie Show, Bernie breaks down the record Angels sale, what it exposes about MLB owners crying poor ahead of a salary cap fight, and why Mike Trout and the Angels clubhouse are genuinely thrilled. Then he retraces the entire Kroenke playbook in St. Louis: the minority stake, the publicly financed dome that printed money, the six year tank, the relocation, and the lawsuit settlement. Along the way he shares a dinner conversation with Roger Goodell, explains the real reason Jeff Fisher was hired, and defends St. Louis as a pro football market that never had anything to prove. Finally, he takes on the local reaction he calls preposterous, from the Nashville panic to the "new rival" takes, and explains what the sale might mean for John Mozeliak in Anaheim. 👑 Presented by DraftKings Sports. What Leo Bernal’s Call-Up Really Means..
Leo Bernal is coming to St. Louis, and his promotion could force the Cardinals to make a defining roster decision. With four catchers in the majors and top prospect Rainiel Rodriguez rising fast, who plays, who stays, and who gets traded? Bernie Miklasz examines the Cardinals’ crowded catching situation, from Bernal and Jimmy Crooks to Pedro Pagés and Iván Herrera. He breaks down Bernal’s defensive reputation, offensive development and potential trade value, then explains why Herrera’s declining Statcast profile could become a major factor during the offseason. 👑 Presented by DraftKings Sports. The Stats That Could Decide Wetherholt vs. Stewart...
The NL Rookie of the Year race has flipped fast, and JJ Wetherholt may be running out of time. Bernie Miklasz breaks down whether the St. Louis Cardinals rookie’s elite all-around game can overcome Sal Stewart’s massive power numbers for the Cincinnati Reds. Stewart has captured attention with his home runs and RBIs, while Wetherholt continues to dominate in defense, baserunning, and overall value. Bernie examines the traditional statistics, advanced metrics, ballpark factors, recent trends, and additional contenders that could decide one of MLB’s most fascinating award races. 👑 Presented by DraftKings Sports. Rebuild Reality: Why This Collapse Is Part of the Plan
The St. Louis Cardinals were embarrassed 13-1 at Busch Stadium, but the ugliest loss of 2026 may reveal why the rebuild is working. Bernie Miklasz cuts through the panic, explains the pitching collapse, and shows why Chaim Bloom’s young roster could still be ahead of schedule. In this edition of The Bernie Show, Bernie examines Matthew Liberatore’s difficult season, Nolan Gorman’s rough return from Memphis, Joshua Báez’s adjustment to major league pitching, and the roster problems behind the Cardinals’ recent free fall. 👑 Presented by DraftKings Sports. Bernie on the Bullpen Chaim Bloom Never Fixed
The Cardinals carried a four run lead into the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday in Philadelphia with a 98 percent probability of winning. Thirty nine pitches later, the entire problem with this season was sitting out in the open for anyone willing to look at it. Bernie Miklasz breaks down the Cardinals' collapse against the Phillies, the 11 game road trip that ended 5-6, and why the bullpen meltdown was the predictable end of a chain that started weeks ago. He gets into the rotation losses, the Kyle Leahy innings plan he fully supports, the one offseason decision he thinks Chaim Bloom got wrong, and the Oli Marmol decision he does criticize, without the theatrics. 👑 Presented by DraftKings Sports. The Stat That CHANGES the Oli Marmol Argument
A rebuilding team just won its fifth straight series and is sitting two and a half games out of a playoff spot. Bernie Miklasz has the late-inning numbers that explain how, and they point somewhere most Cardinals fans have not been looking. Bernie breaks down the wild five-game series in Cincinnati, the July collapse that should have ended the season, what the trade deadline actually cost this roster, and the one move he believes Chaim Bloom should have made. Plus a data-backed case for Oli Marmol that runs against the loudest opinions on Cardinals Twitter. The Joshua Baez Reality Check...
Joshua Baez made history at Wrigley Field, then went 0 for 18. Bernie Miklasz says the panic is misplaced, and the Statcast data explains exactly why. On this episode of The Bernie Show, Bernie breaks down what the St. Louis Cardinals rookie is actually doing at the plate versus what the box score suggests. He digs into Baez's 2026 Triple-A profile at Memphis, the chase and contact issues that delayed his promotion, why Chaim Bloom made the call when he did, and the exit velocity and hard-hit numbers that point to better days ahead. Then Bernie goes deep into baseball history, because almost every great hitter you can name started out looking overmatched. Joshua Baez Shocked Baseball at Wrigley, But Bernie Is Watching Something Else...
Joshua Baez did something no player in Major League Baseball history had ever done, and 24 hours later he struck out three times and went hitless. Bernie Miklasz says the second game may end up mattering just as much as the first. On this Monday edition of The Bernie Show, Bernie breaks down the most stunning debut in baseball history and then makes the case that Baez's quiet Sunday was quietly useful. He walks through why the Cardinals were right to keep Baez at Triple-A Memphis longer than fans wanted, what the swing adjustments actually fixed, and why he now believes he was wrong to push for an earlier call up. He also explains what Baez's arrival does for Jordan Walker, why this lineup suddenly looks deeper, and why the Jimmy Crooks reaction should be a warning to everyone about how fast a fan base can turn on a young hitter. Bernie Admits He Was Wrong About Joshua Baez
Bernie Miklasz spent this season pounding the table for the Cardinals to call up Joshua Báez, and in this video he says out loud that he was wrong. What changed his mind was a three-week collapse in Memphis that almost nobody outside the organization was tracking. Báez did not make the trip to Wrigley Field, and the frustration from Cardinals fans has gotten loud enough that some are threatening to stop buying tickets until he is promoted. Bernie walks through why the rookie eligibility clock is no longer a reason to wait, what Chaim Bloom's player development group has been quietly rebuilding in Báez's swing since July, and the one vulnerability Triple-A pitchers are still exploiting that would get exposed immediately at the major league level. He also lays out the realistic promotion windows, including the six-game homestand that begins August 25. Blue Caps Are Back, and Bernie Sees a Bigger Shift in St. Louis
The Cardinals gave their fans exactly what they asked for this week, and Bernie Miklasz thinks the reason behind it matters more than the hat does. Then he gets to the one thing he cannot stop worrying about, and it has nothing to do with 2026. Bernie breaks down the return of the navy blue road caps, why 23 years of contention gave way to a normal baseball cycle, and what Covid permanently changed about attendance in this region. He then makes his case for the rebuild under Chaim Bloom, argues the starting pitching has been the most underrated part of the season, and explains why the smallest active payroll in the majors is the right call right now. He is also blunt about what is not coming: no firings, no sale, no payroll spike. He closes on Hall of Fame weekend in September, and on the 2027 labor fight that genuinely worries him. Somebody PLEASE Stop The Fight: Bernie On Matthew Liberatore
Bernie Miklasz has been covering the Cardinals for a long time, and he says he has rarely seen a team stand by a struggling starting pitcher this long. On this episode he makes the case, inning by inning and number by number, that Matthew Liberatore needs to be pulled from the major league rotation before something worse than his ERA gets damaged. Bernie walks through Saturday's avoidable 8 to 6 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Busch Stadium, the mental lapse that gave Colorado a free base hit, and the deeper statistical picture that he believes leaves the Cardinals no defensible reason to keep running Liberatore out every fifth day. He also explains why Quinn Mathews belongs in the St. Louis rotation right now, why Brycen Mautz gives the organization depth it is not using, and why blaming pitching coach Dusty Blake is the lazy answer. Nolan Gorman Changed Something in Memphis, and Almost Nobody Noticed
Nolan Gorman went to Memphis in June as a hitter with a scrambled swing and a 49 percent strikeout rate, and most Cardinals fans mentally closed the book on him. Over his last 14 games, something in the data quietly flipped, and Bernie Miklasz thinks St. Louis has roughly zero good reasons to ignore it. Bernie walks through what actually happened inside the Memphis hitting lab, why the early results looked worse than they were, and what the last two weeks of batted ball data suggest about whether the rebuild of Gorman's swing is taking hold. He also makes the uncomfortable comparison to the current Cardinals offense, which ranks at the bottom of the National League in home runs and slugging over its last 50 games. This is not a prediction that Gorman gets called up. It is an argument about what a rebuilding team has to lose by finding out. The Cautionary Tale Every Cardinals Fan Needs To Hear Right Now
Chaim Bloom has stocked the Cardinals farm system with more high end talent than Bernie Miklasz has seen in his 37 years covering this team. So why does he keep thinking about a franchise that did the exact same thing and ended up with nothing? In this episode of The Bernie Show, Bernie breaks down the Cardinals rebuild through the lens of the Baltimore Orioles, a team that tanked, drafted brilliantly, built what analysts called maybe the best farm system in major league history, and then failed to win a single postseason game before trading its franchise catcher to a division rival. Bernie explains what went wrong in Baltimore, why he still believes in what Bloom is building in St. Louis, and the questions that will actually decide whether this becomes the next great Cardinals team. What Chaim Bloom Got for Dustin May Should Not Have Been Possible...
Chaim Bloom just turned two rental pitchers and one veteran outfielder into a prospect haul that national evaluators are still reacting to. Bernie Miklasz has covered the St. Louis Cardinals since the 1980s, and he says he has never seen the farm system stocked like this. In this episode of The Bernie Show, Bernie breaks down every move the Cardinals made at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, why the return from Milwaukee exceeded even optimistic expectations, and what the incoming talent says about where this rebuild is heading. He also has thoughts on the one national writer who did not like it. Trading Ivan Herrera Would Be a MISTAKE
Contending teams keep calling the Cardinals about Iván Herrera, and the reason has less to do with his bat than you think. Bernie Miklasz digs into a leaguewide shift that has quietly turned right-handed hitters into the most scarce commodity at the 2026 trade deadline, and explains why it changes the entire Herrera conversation. Bernie breaks down both sides honestly: the defensive limitations that leave Herrera without a true position, the strange split that makes him a far better hitter when he catches, the swing path problem holding back his power, and the recent Driveline work that may have him turning a corner. Then he lays out the numbers on baseball's historic left-handed hitter surge and what it means for a Cardinals lineup that already ranks near the bottom of the league in right-handed production. 🍺 STL Sports Central is brought to you in part by Budweiser. The REAL Reason This Offense Is Broken, And It Isn't Busch Stadium
he Cardinals just got outscored 17 to 5 in two nights by the Cubs, and everyone wants to blame the ballpark. Bernie Miklasz says the ballpark is the smallest part of this, and the actual problem is one nobody in the organization seems willing to name. Bernie breaks down why St. Louis has become one of the worst home teams in baseball, why moving the fences at Busch Stadium would backfire, and what the Milwaukee Brewers have been proving in this division since 2018. It starts with a 27-31 home record and ends with a question the Cardinals still cannot answer: what do they actually stand for on offense? 🍺 STL Sports Central is brought to you in part by Budweiser. What the Cardinals Learned, and What They Keep Ignoring...
The Cardinals have spent all season telling us 2026 is a year of discovery with the youngest roster in the majors. Bernie Miklasz went through that roster name by name and came away with a long list of things this team has genuinely learned, plus a handful it seems determined not to act on. At 53 and 53 with the trade deadline days away, this is the honest midseason accounting: who has earned a spot in the 2027 plans, who has not, and where the organization is still getting in its own way. 🍺 STL Sports Central is brought to you in part by Budweiser.
