Behind The Laundry Door

Indy Clinton

Everyone’s got dirty laundry, but not everyone airs it.

We’re just two tired parents wanting to have an uninterrupted, honest conversation. We dive into the type of topics every parent thinks, but nobody says out loud. The convos you try have with a friend at the park, but your kids keep interrupting. We’re not perfect parents and we don’t have it all figured out... But hey, that's parenthood! We’re going down shit creek together.

The door is closed, the filter is off, the mics are on, and the kids are out. Consider this couples therapy, or perhaps a date. Or maybe even foreplay. We will take anything at this point.

Finally an update on Ben's situation...

This week we’re closing out season one, not behind the laundry door but down by the pool, because there was a full load of washing we couldn’t stop. We're airing out the mum guilt of leaving for Bangkok on Bambi’s fourth birthday, and the realisation that one of us has been keeping a secret for over 4 years... Why our thoughts on sleepovers have changed...

The school holidays have started, and we've locked the laundry door for a chat that gets interrupted by a baby who doesn't sleep longer than 40 minutes. After airing out Navy's surf party and the great Friday-off-school debate, we count down six things parenthood has taught us so far. Think the relentless full time job of raising humans, parenting three kids three different ways, worry that never switches off, and whether the baby stage was actually the easy bit. We also get into who really shows up to clap the loudest for your kids, why not everything needs an explanation, and how gross kids can be (head lice, we're looking at you). Plus, we answer some of your questions! iPad kids vs free range kids

This week we have a bit of colonoscopy chat, and a cameo form Soul, but the main event is screen time... iPads at restaurants, when a kid actually needs their own phone, and the slightly awkward reality that we're trying to set screen boundaries for our kids while we're on our phones past midnight. Plus, a CD player Navy doesn't know about yet, the sex drought nobody asked about, and “high low buffalo” the one dinner table trick from this episode that’s our favourite family time together. Sydney Sweeney, can you not?!

This week one of us is fired up about the Sydney Sweeney ad and what it's teaching our daughters about women in sport… and one of us hasn’t seen it. Then it's the NFL in Melbourne (one invite, no fam), a new manager, and a full debrief on kindy parents’ night - the clothes crisis, the near panic attack getting ready, and the growing suspicion that every other mum has her life together. Plus, don’t let us near another auction or we may be bankrupt. Throwing out traditional gender roles is the best thing we ever did

Father's Day recaps, a bloody lip incident, and a hard line on kids DJing the car. Then strap in cause we get a bit deep this week... traditional vs modern gender roles, the mental load debate (spoiler: no resolution), 22 years of corporate life ending, and what Ben stepping back into the home has actually taught us both. We also unpack toxic masculinity and what we want our kids to see when they watch us do things the untraditional way. Fair warning: this one might lose us a few friends. Is this under 6s footy or military training?

We're back from Bali and straight back into the grind... turns out inner peace has a shelf life of about four days. This week we air out: the internet refusing to believe a dry shampoo actually works, a dummy addiction that needs to end, and whether kids these days are getting more entitled or if we just sound like our parents now. We get into gratitude, discipline, and Ben's under 6s rugby coaching career (verdict: slightly feared, weirdly effective), plus the great ‘simple 90s birthday party vs full production’ debate - lolly bags, ice cream trucks, and whether asking for $5 instead of plastic crap makes you a good parent or a cheapskate. Is one of us parenting wrong, or just differently?

This week we are breaking down our parenting styles... why one of us can't let the other parent without hovering, whether Mitre 10 counts as quality time, and the great "gentle parenting vs your kids need structure" comment section debate. We do some research into our actual parenting styles (reactive vs high intensity, apparently), argue about lunchbox surveillance, and somehow end up questioning whether "symbiotic" is a real word. But never fear, we finish off by putting on the gentle wash and saying the nice things out loud for once. Homework this week: give your partner 30 seconds before you jump in. We'll wait. Ben’s Bali biohacking almost ruined our kid free fun

We made it to Bali, we're both red as lobsters, and somehow neither of us has been arrested for scaling a villa fence at 12:30am. This week it's an unfiltered download from the actual holiday... sunstroke, Bintangs, and a few trips to Bambu gym. We talk sciatica (allegedly), surf bullying (allegedly), and the Gojek driver who ended up being the actual highlight of the trip. Sunny days, zero lunchboxes, and somewhere in between all the chaos we do actually miss the kids… just not enough to cut the trip short. Cheers to that. We love our kids, that’s why we're doing this

We launched, we survived, we packed a million boxes, and somehow we're still married. This week we're counting down to our first holiday without the kids since 2019. Six days, no lunchboxes, no negotiating with a two year old, no FaceTime updates unless someone's on fire. It's chaotic, it's a bit unhinged, and yeah, there's champagne involved. But that's kind of the point, we're not pretending to have it together, we're just letting you watch us try. BRB we’re off to Bambu gym… LINKS: www.behindthelaundrydoor.com @behindthelaundrydoor @indyclinton @itsnotbigeddy CREDITS: Hosts: Indy Clinton & Ben Azar Executive Producer: Hannah Bowman

Two horny housemates in the trenches with 3 young kids...

There have been a lot of narratives about our relationship over the years, but this time, we're telling our own. For episode 1 we thought it would be a good idea for you to get to know us. The real us. If we weren't married with three kids, would we even be friends? Kids change everything, and we've had to learn to love every new version of ourselves (and each other) along the way. As a couple, we couldn’t be more different, we're chalk and cheese... but that's kinda what makes us work. We talk about who we are outside of being mum and dad, what keeps us connected and the things we probably wouldn’t tolerate from anyone else. Yeah we’re in the trenches and we know that, but at least we’re in it together...
