    Episode 566: Bugging Out

Imagine this: you’re sitting comfortably on your couch, snug as a bug in a rug, when you start to feel a slight tickle on your arm. You lift the blanket to find a creepy-crawly pest resting on you. How would you react? That’s the question we’re asking on this episode of Baconsale. Joel, Kent, and Zack have created a list of 24 bugs (including ants, spiders, moths, flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, grasshoppers, bees, and ladybugs) and we’re going to tier them according to how much they would cause us to freak out. We’ll also share some fun facts about each insect, arachnid, crustacean, and myriapod as we do our best to pronounce their scientific names correctly and not enforce certain gender stereotypes. Did you just get an itchy feeling on your scalp? Instead of going for your blowtorch, you’d better just press play, beetle buddy.

Episode 565: The Baddest Non-Disney Villain (Tournament Finals)

We’re back (A Dinosaur's Story) to finish what we started and finally determine… who some of these animated characters are. After all, these should now be the better-known villains of the non-Disney bunch, right? And then, after we can clearly picture these individual antagonists, we’ll do our best to argue who would win in a fight to the death. This will, of course, lead to a number of random side conversations, including a whole discussion about healthcare plans and a couple conspiracy theories. We may agree a lot at the beginning, but then we become sentient and corporeal, and the dark magic starts to take over and as we enter the sinister sixteen, evil eight, fearsome four, and final match-up. Which non-Disney villain will come out victorious? Press play to find out. Visit Baconsale.com to download the advanced version of this bracket.

Episode 564: Tournament of Non-Disney Villains

Why should Disney villains have all the fun? On this episode of Baconsale, we’re turning the spotlight on evil, animated antagonists from other film studios such as DreamWorks (Lord Farquaad, Tai Lung), Illumination (Vector, Bowser), Fox (Soto, Hexxus), and even some Don Bluth productions (Rasputin, Sharptooth). You may not remember some of these characters, but that’s okay because we didn’t either. However, we’ll remind you of which movie they’re from, what they look like, and what their crimes are. We’ve also randomized the match-ups so there are a lot of wild card battles in this first round of the tournament. And watch out for decades-old spoilers as we don’t pull any punches. Press play to find out why Plankton is Batman. And visit Baconsale.com to download our official non-Disney villain bracket.

    Episode 563: Breaking Bad Boys

On this episode of Baconsale, we are the danger, because we’re entering the Gilliverse (Vince Gilligan’s Island?) and discussing Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul. We’ll begin by Gliding Over All with a spoiler-free history of each show. We’ll then use our Gray Matter to analyze characters such as Saul Goodman, Jesse Pinkman, Kim Wexler, Mike Ehrmantraut, Gus Fring, and the Cancer Man himself: Walter White/Heisenberg. Once we’re given the Green Light, we’ll take the Gloves Off and go Full Measure into spoiler territory and all the Chicanery that happens in these shows. We’ll talk about the Plan and Execution of a few specific episodes, chat about the jaw-dropping moments when certain characters Face Off, and debate if the End Times of each story was Something Beautiful or just Dead Freight. It was Quite a Ride to watch these all again. Press play to enter the Crawl Space and be the one who knocks.

Episode 562: End of 2026 Movie Preview

It’s Sunrise on the Reaping of fall movies for Baconsale. Joel, Kent, and Zack have searched the Wildwood of the web and Hope to help you know which films are going Open World before the end of the year. We’ve used some Practical Magic 2 choose five films we want to avoid, and five (Minus Zero) that belong in Primetime. We’ll do our best to not act like an Ebenezer or make it sound like Doomsday in the theaters, but The Social Reckoning may happen and we may be taken over by some sort of Resident Evil at times. Don’t Look Back in Anger at your Other Mommy. Be a Digger and press play.

Episode 561: Aging the Movies of 2006

Listener, when you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room and talk about movies that are 20 years old. It's for fun. And on this episode of Baconsale, we’ve got a jar of dirt! Wait, no, we’re showcasing the 2006 films that left us shaken and stirred in a series of cinematic categories. We’ll be discussing the films that were a great success, as well as those that were nothing more than an inconvenient truth. We’re all in this together, but Kent is a bit of a downer and he fights our pursuit of happyness, Joel has declared open season on animated films and his feet aren’t happy, and Zack is ready to shake and bake and he gets a little hostel with some our choices. Ka-chow! Press play to hear the last stand in our film lookback this season.

Episode 560: The Josh Trank Redemption

Somehow Joel, Kent & Zack were hired as temps at a parole board hearing. However, this is a symbolic cinematic prison for filmmakers who have been put in director’s jail for one reason or another. Therefore, on this episode of Baconsale, we’ll be examining the filmography of once-popular directors like Tom Hooper, Cameron Crowe, Patty Jenkins, Joss Whedon, J.J. Abrams, Nancy Meyers, and Terry Gilliam. After reviewing their cases, we’ll decide if they deserve to stay in director’s jail, should be allowed out on probation, or should be released to make movies freely again. Should someone’s reputation be ruined because of one garbage (grabage?) movie? Can a movie be iconic but not good? Does the age of a director matter? Listen to find out. Press play to get stamp happy!

    Episode 559: Look Who's Topping

Baconsale has already ranked popular pizza chains and frozen pizzas on previous episodes and now we’re topping it all off with, well, pizza toppings. We’ve compiled a list of 24 popular meats and veggies and, after quickly picking our preferred crust type and sauce, Joel, Kent, and Zack will rank everything from anchovies to tomatoes. Along the way, there may be some Little Sleazer's slander and multiple comparisons to the taste of dirt, but we hope you enjoy as we pile on the praise for the toppings we love and present the official pizza of our podcast. Don’t be a jerk to bread, BOOK IT to that play button!

Episode 558: Concert, iPod, Erase 2 – The Revenge of Michael McDonald

Believe it or not, it’s been three years since the last time Baconsale played Concert, iPod, Erase. So, we decided to dedicate another episode to contemplating which artists we’d like to see in concert, which songs we’d want to hear on repeat, and which albums we would erase from existence. Zack is having fun with themes, Kent is doing his best impression of Cher, and Joel is still paying for his past actions with this game. We invite you to play along with us as we stress about scenarios that will never happen. Press play to learn why The Beagles would be such a good idea.

BaconBit: Spider-Man: Brand New Day Review

Your friendly neighborhood Wall-Crawler is swinging back into theaters again with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But will Tom Holland’s fourth Spidey flick be a leap forward in the evolution of his story, or is Peter Parker’s plot too caught up in the tangled web of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? That’s what we’re going to talk about on this BaconBit. Joel and Kent have seen the movie and are ready to give their spoiler-free, post-embargo reviews. And Zack is going to stick around, even after we start discussing specific plot points and characters, because spoilers for this film are kind of a grey area. Press play to hear a bunch of PlayStation 4 references.

Episode 557: Aging the Music of 1996

I'll tell you what we want, what we really, really want. We really want to talk about songs that are, No Diggity, turning 30 years old this year. And so, on this episode of Baconsale, we’re looking back to a time when Joel and Kent were merely Freshmen, and Zack was still dependent on his Mother Mother. We’ll be bringing up music that made us think we could Change the World and tunes that made us feel Blue. And while it may feel like we’re being Ironic with some of our choices, we’ll do our best to not Sink to the Bottom of the barrel Too Much with our picks, nor will we Sell Out as we avoid the Macarena. Don’t practice Santeria, just press play. Where Do You Go to find the songs we discussed on this episode? Visit Baconsale.com for the official Spotify playlist.

    BaconBit: The Odyssey Review

After years of war, no one could stand between Kent and Sir Christopher Nolan’s new epic, The Odyssey. And since fortune favors the brave, Kent and Zack have seen this fantasy action film and are ready to share the tale of their cinematic adventure into sanitized mythology. We won’t spoil anything at the beginning of this BaconBit, but if you’ve taken a high school English class, you probably already know how the story goes. However, after Joel leaves and journeys back home to his wife, Kent and Zack will stay to talk about the specifics of this sword and sandal saga. Press play to get loud and avoid British accents.

Episode 555: Schoolyard Pick – Worst Superhero Movies

In brightest day, in blackest night, no bad superhero movie shall escape our sight. Because we asked you, the listener, to research spiders in the Amazon and give us your worst offerings from Marvel, DC, and every other corner of comic book adaptations. Now, dig on this: Joel and Kent are going to build a movie marathon watchlist using the poorly made films you gave us. Zack will then have to decide which awful watch party he’s going to attend based solely on what is playing. And justice is blind, ai’ght? What killed the dinosaurs? The not pressing play age!

    BaconBit: Moana (2026) Review

We've been staring at all these Disney live-action remakes ‘long as we can remember, never really knowing why they keep making them. But they do, and Joel and Kent are now ready to review the flesh & blood adaptation of Moana. Yes, we’re going to spoil it because it’s the story you already know from the 2016 animated movie. Zack is even going to stick around for spoilers. And while we’re going to give you a lot more Heihei, we apologize for the contagious yawning that happens during this BaconBit. Episode 554: This Show is Nuts!

On this episode of Baconsale, a throwaway joke from our fruit tiering episode has now become a reality. Joel, Kent, Zack, and our friend Babs have created a list of 18 varieties of nuts & seeds (THAT’S A LOT OF NUTS!) and are going to be ranking them based on taste, texture, and the ability to kill. We’ll be discussing the almond, cashew, chestnut, hazelnut, macadamia nut, peanut, pine nut, pistachio nut, walnut (would you stop naming nuts!), and more. We’ll be sharing our feelings, our children’s thoughts, some random facts, and a few Bible verses as we chat about our mass consumption of these drupes, legumes, and kernels. Press play to learn the shape of the amygdala.

Episode 553: Sidestepping the Sophomore Slump

On Baconsale Episode 503, Joel, Kent, and Zack shared some of the best and worst debut albums of popular bands. Now, we’re following up that conversation with a direct sequel. It’s going to be more personal, a little darker, and somewhat edgier. First of all, we’re going to discuss the second albums of the artists previously discussed. Following that, we’ll share our picks for the best sophomore albums of all time. Though, despite Zack’s best efforts, we mostly stay in the 90s. We’re kind of predictable that way. And even though this episode will flop now, audiences will begin to appreciate it years down the road. Press play to get Pinkertoned! Also, visit Baconsale.com to listen to some of the sophomoric songs we mentioned on this episode on our official Spotify playlist.

    Episode 552: Toy Mashtory

The Toy Story franchise has been so successful that it’s time for a reboot/spin-off! On this episode of Baconsale, Joel, Kent, and Zack will be playing the classic game of M.A.S.H. to create another cash-grab, er, sequel for this animated film series. A random number generator will determine who is directing our movies, what toys from our childhood will be included, and who will be giving those characters voices. Then, it’s up to you, the listener, to decide which of our films you’d choose to watch if they were real. Press play to see how much variety there is in the Toy Story universe.

Episode 551: Aging the Movies of 1996

Welcome to Earth in 1996, listener! On this episode of Baconsale, we’ve got cows because we’re talking about movies that were released 30 years ago. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to listen to Joel, Kent, and Zack, choose their personal Mt. Rushmore of ’96 films. Following that, things will get topsy turvy as we choose life and pick comedies, action flicks, and dramas that we haven’t discussed that much before. Do you like scary movies? Because we’ll include a few of those, too, on this winding ro-ad of categories. And while you may wonder (O-neder?) why we didn’t include some of the biggest box office earners, just remember that there's more to life than a little money, you know. Don'tcha know that? The lamp has gone out and I'm writing in the darkness. Please call the cable guy and then press play.
