Get Off Your Phone & Go See a Band - EP 153

Send us Fan Mail Mother Rucker is back for Part 2—and this time the conversation turns into a celebration of everything that makes live music matter. Paul and Kevin continue their conversation with Rocky, Joe and Zach about the concerts and musicians that shaped them, the South Florida music scene, and why seeing a band live creates an experience that streaming and YouTube simply can't duplicate. Rocky opens up about his musical upbringing and the path that eventually led him to performing and teaching, while the band explains why they would rather be called entertaining than be pigeonholed into a single genre. For Mother Rucker, the goal is simple: whether you're a hardcore punk fan or you're experiencing your first punk show, they want you to walk away having had a damn good time. The guys also celebrate the return of Respectable Street, talk about upcoming Mother Rucker shows, swap stories about Rush, Primus and other unforgettable live performances—and, naturally, get completely sidetracked by pizza, whiskey and whatever else happens when Mother Rucker takes over the studio. It's funny, chaotic and ultimately a conversation about supporting local bands, supporting local venues and getting out to experience live music. 👉 Follow, subscribe, and support independent Florida music. 🎸🥁 Riffs n Rhythms - http://www.riffsnrhythms.com 🎸 Kevin McLoughlin –http://www.kevinmcloughlinband.com 🥁 Paul Robertson – @drumsandrums @rumfluencer 👻 The Ghost on the Aux - https://www.ghostontheaux.com 🎸 Powered by the B3 Podcast Network 🔥 SUBSCRIBE to our Patreon for extra riffs, rhythms, and absolute nonsense. /riffsnrhythmspodcast 👉 Available on Apple, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube & more. 📩 Want to join the madness or be our bartender? AI Flyer Drama Discussion - EP 149

Send us Fan Mail On this episode of Riffs & Rhythms, Paul Robertson may be stuck at the airport, but the show goes on as Kevin McLoughlin welcomes special guest co-host Brad Brock for one of the most entertaining conversations we've had in a while. Fresh off a cruise through the British Isles, Brad shares stories from Amsterdam, Scotland, Ireland, and Liverpool—from exploring the Anne Frank House and the Heineken Experience to discovering hidden pubs, cruising the Shetland Islands, and why every musician should visit the places that inspired so much history and music. Then the conversation shifts into one of the hottest topics in today's music scene: Should bands be using AI to create promotional flyers? Is AI making it easier for independent musicians to market themselves, or is it replacing creativity? Does anyone outside the music scene actually care if a concert flyer was created with AI? Is it hurting graphic designers—or simply giving artists another tool to tell their story? Kevin, Brad, and producer Devin tackle the debate from every angle, discussing creativity, originality, prompt engineering, licensing, corporate branding, the environmental impact of AI, and where they believe the technology fits into the future of music and marketing. To close out the episode, the crew reviews Fox Maple's brand-new single, "Last of the Lost," breaking down its haunting atmosphere, powerful songwriting, dynamic arrangement, and answering the show's signature question: Is it the Riff... or the Rhythm... that makes the song? So pour yourself a drink, settle in, and enjoy another episode of Riffs & Rhythms—where the conversations are as memorable as the music. 👉 Follow, subscribe, and support independent Florida music. 🎸🥁 Riffs n Rhythms - https://www.riffsnrhythms.com 🎸 Kevin McLoughlin – https://www.kevinmcloughlinband.com 🥁 Paul Robertson – @drumsandrums @rumfluencer 👻 The Ghost on the Aux - https://ghostontheaux.com 🎸 Powered by the B3 Podcast Network 🔥 SUBSCRIBE to our Patreon for extra riffs, rhythms, and absolute nonsense. /riffsnrhythmspodcast 👉 LISTEN on Apple, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube & more. 📩 Want to join the madness or be our bartender? The Fox is Back - EP 146

Send us Fan Mail This week on Riffs & Rhythms, Paul Robertson and Kevin McLoughlin welcome Fox Maple back to the show for one of the funniest—and most thought-provoking—episodes yet. Fox opens up about spending nearly four years creating the record, why some songs have been waiting more than a decade to be released, how life experiences shaped the album's darker tone, and why sometimes you simply have to stop chasing perfection and let the music go. Along the way, the conversation dives into: 🎵 The making of Last of the Lost 💿 Why vinyl records are making a comeback—and why colored vinyl sells better 🎙️ Recording, producing, and knowing when an album is "finished" 🎸 Playing over 600 live shows and growing as an artist 📻 Landing on Spotify's Release Radar and receiving international airplay 🎪 Local music festivals and supporting original music 😂 And, as always... plenty of hilarious Riffs & Rhythms tangents. What Happens When Passions Collide? Distiller, Author, Musician - Shawn Martin

Send us Fan Mail Drums and Rums is back — from Key West! Paul takes the show on the road for a special conversation from Papa’s Pilar Rum Distillery in Key West with distiller, rum enthusiast, musician and newly published author Shawn Martin, who writes under the name Shawn Michael Dean. Shawn's path to making rum wasn't exactly planned. With a background in marine biology, he came to Key West working as a scuba instructor and boat captain before what was supposed to be a temporary job at a new distillery turned into nearly a decade of making and experimenting with rum. In this episode, Paul and Shawn dig into how the rum industry has evolved, why rum is often misunderstood, and why the spirit deserves the same appreciation given to bourbon, Scotch and whiskey. Shawn also takes us inside the creative side of distilling — experimenting with fermentation, different distillation techniques, barrel finishes and small-batch Distillery Reserve releases. And since we're recording at the distillery, we don't just talk about them…we taste a few along the way. The conversation goes well beyond rum, too. We explore the history of the building and its connections to old Key West and Ernest Hemingway, the creation of the Hemingway Social Club, Key West's music scene, tiki culture, and Shawn's newest creative adventure: becoming an author. After nearly 10 years of writing on and off, Shawn recently released his first novel, Coral Bay, under the name Shawn Michael Dean — and he's already thinking about what comes next. It's rum, science, history, music, writing, Key West and a few good laughs along the way. In other words, exactly what Drums and Rums is supposed to be: Where the Backbeats Meet the Spirits.
