In this 126th episode of Sober Head Podcast, Dr. Esra Çavuşoğlu, PhD welcomes Dr. David Rabin, MD, PhD.
Dr. David Rabin, MD, PhD, is a psychiatrist, translational neuroscientist, researcher, and entrepreneur who has spent more than 20 years studying the effects of chronic stress on human health, particularly in the areas of trauma, addiction, and human performance. As Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Apollo Neuroscience, Rabin focuses on nervous system regulation, mental health, and technology-based therapeutic approaches.
How does trauma change the brain and nervous system, and can PTSD actually be healed? In this episode, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. David Rabin explores the science of trauma, PTSD, psychedelic-assisted therapy, MDMA, the vagus nerve, and nervous system regulation. We discuss how MDMA-assisted psychotherapy may help the brain relearn safety, the potential relationship between trauma and epigenetic changes, and why psychedelic experiences alone are not enough without proper preparation and integration.
We also explore psilocybin, ketamine, ayahuasca, addiction and misuse risks, and the critical difference between controlled therapeutic use and recreational drug use. Finally, Dr. Rabin explains the neuroscience behind Apollo Neuro and how signals of safety may influence stress, sleep, HRV, and the autonomic nervous system. A deep conversation about trauma recovery, psychedelic medicine, addiction, mental health, and the future of psychiatry.
