103. Uncertainty is Exhausting
Welcome to the Autism Parent Club Podcast! Are you parenting a child with profound autism or navigating life with a non-verbal teen who requires 24/7 care? You’ve found your people. We’re Chris and Becky—parents to an 19-year-old son diagnosed with Level 3 autism, sometimes referred to as severe or profound autism. Each week, we share real-life stories from our journey parenting a child with high support needs, including sensory challenges, communication barriers, meltdowns, medical visits, and meaningful milestones. In this episode: In this episode of the Autism Parent Club Podcast, we’re talking about one of the most exhausting parts of raising an autistic child: the uncertainty. The appointments, medical decisions, insurance approvals, finding someone who can care for your child, family events, travel, and everyday plans can all require backup plans because you simply don’t know what the day—or tomorrow—will bring. We share some of what our family has been navigating lately, including frequent abdominal X-rays, waiting for insurance approval for a new medication, finding care for Bridger so we could attend an important event for our son Noah, and preparing for an upcoming family wedding in a remote location. But underneath all of those stories is a bigger question: What if it doesn’t work out? We talk about the mental load of living with uncertainty, the pressure to plan for every possible scenario, and learning that we may not be able to eliminate uncertainty—but we can learn to trust ourselves to handle whatever comes next. If you’re an autism parent who feels exhausted by the constant planning, worrying, and not knowing, this episode is for you.Check out the rough draft of the autism resource website we are creating for YOU, the Autism Parent Club! https://autismparentclub.com/ Email us: unabridgedcoaching@gmail.com Facebook: Unabridged Life Coaching Instagram: @autism_unabridged Download my FREE guide: 5 Simple Steps to Stop Feeling Overwhelmed — your lifeline for regaining calm and clarity as an autism mom.
