What's a business structure and how might one begin to develop this concept for themselves 7:15 Why I'm not just going to tell you do some shady shit to avoid taxation 9:30 What is an LLC: Limited Liability Corporation? When should you start thinking about forming one? 12:44 What about an S-corp? When should you consider this structure? What are the downsides? 13:45 Separating yourself from your business, not just in structure, but in finances (ie: separate checking account) 15:00 Step 1: Come up with a name to operate under, this can also be called a DBA (Doing Business As) and get a business license from your county clerk. You might need a residential business permit, check with your county. 17:00 Step 2: Get an EIN, it's dumb easy, here's the link: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/get-an-employer-identification-number You can do this even if you don't run a business Step 3: Get a business checking account to separate your business income from your personal checking account 20:20 Step 4: File the paperwork to become an LLC (this process and the fees involved vary wildly according to state, so check with your county/state legistlation and outlines) Don't go back to sleep. xoRachel Sign up here for monthly blasts and functional woo Find me on Instagram Support this podcast on Patreon

May 9-15th 4:14 The meat and taters of this episode starts here, about our responsibility of having a public profile 5:30 This episode is only for people who want to be active participants in the online ecosystem. I disagree with the idea that you have a responsibility to post about everything happening, and here is why: 8:00 1) You're a person, not a journalist. (Journalists are people too, but it's their whole job to respond to everything) 9:10 2) There are simply too many horrors to post about all of them. 9:51 3) I do think we have a responsibility to lead with our values. That doesn't mean saying it constantly, or every day. 10:33 4) The rise of the idea that you have a responsibility to respond to every crisis has given rise to the tidal wave of performative allyship. This creates ENORMOUS pressure that is almost impossible to satisfy, so we just don't post at all. Who benefits from this?? 11:38 5) Just because someone doesn't say something about an issue, it doesn't mean they don't care and aren't participating in beneficial ways 13:00 Little story about one of my alumni who felt so much pressure she couldn't share her life 14:40 Shoutout to Maestro for leading with her example and sharing her values and always sharing her joy 16:00 Don't go back to sleep. xoRachel Sign up here for monthly blasts and functional woo Find me on Instagram Support this podcast on Patreon
